Translating Math Statements

Math Tip

Decoding: If you are given a word problem with lots of math language and no variables in the answer

choices, the best strategy is to translate the word problem into an equation and solve.

1. A certain positive number is multiplied by 4, and then the result is subtracted from the original number. The result is 21 less than 0. What is the number?
