The ACRS Quality Compliance Certificationscheme is designed to assure the quality of

materials specified and delivered to site,irrespective of origin, and ensureAustralia’s construction standards are noteroded through the supply of potentiallynon-complying materials.

ACRS Certification includes third-partytesting of reinforcing steel productspost-processing to ensure they complywith the Steel Reinforcement MaterialsStandard AS4671.

Australian Standards are nowbased on performance

A current issue in the construction industry,both in Australia and overseas, is the needfor manufacturers to be able to clearlydemonstrate they are complying with therelevant materials and design standards fortheir products. Australian Standards arenow based on performance criteria ratherthan prescriptively set on manufacturerscapability, and globalisation means thatmaterials can now originate from manyparts of the world. Testing to these criteriaand the permitted tolerances is a criticalpart of the Standards.

Third party certification providesproof of compliance

To ensure builders and specifiers havecontinued confidence in building materials,there is a worldwide trend for third partycertification of manufacturers’ products toshow they comply with the relevantStandards. This involves not onlymanufacturers guaranteeing that they carryout the more onerous testing required bytoday’s Standards, but also submitting theirtesting, their records and their products toexternal assessment.

OneSteel Reinforcing’s policy is to complywith or exceed the relevant AustralianStandards for our products. We supportthird party accreditation of reinforcingsteel by ACRS to assure compliance.

What we test for AS4671Performance Requirements

Rebar testing for AS4671 Appendix B3covers sampling and testing:

• For rebar bending, mechanicalproperties, chemical composition &surface geometry – 1 test for each 50tonnes batch or cast at the OneSteel Mill

• For decoiled bar bending & mechanicalproperties – 1 test per diameter permachine per week at our plants

• For decoiled bar deformations – 1 test perdiameter per day per machine at our plants

Mesh testing for AS4671 Appendix B3 coverssampling and testing:

Mechanical properties – 4 tensile tests/batchof 1000 sheets or 50 tonnes - 2 longitudinalwires, 2 cross wires

Weld Shear tests – 2 tests per batch of 1000sheets or 50 tonnes

Sheet Dimensions – 1 test per batch of 1000sheets or 50 tonnes

Wire rib height – 2 tests per batch – 1longitudinal wire & 1 cross wire.
