What is the Summer Treatment Program? This unique program provides treatment for children ages 5 to 12 and adolescents ages 13- 16 with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or similar disorders. It is tailored to each childs behavioral, emotional, and interpersonal needs. The ultimate goal is to build on a childs social and emotional skills so he or she can return to school ready to succeed. Each child receives an individually designed treatment plan, which is monitored and modified as necessary. These plans are carried out under the supervision of mental health professionals, specially trained staff, and a licensed psychologist. Children are placed in groups of up to 18 with 6 staff members to supervise activities. The group stays together throughout the day so that children learn to work and cooperate in a group setting. Children spend their days working in a therapeutic setting to carry out behavior modification plans designed to address each childs specific needs in the various settings. For the remainder of the day, children participate in therapeutic activities. Group time includes age appropriate discussion. Children also participate in group problem solving discussions, social skills training and other treatment strategies. About ACRP The goal of ACRP is to prevent out-of-home placement of children and adolescents and enable the family unit to remain intact. To achieve this goal, ACRP operates several children/adolescent and family programs, while providing a variety of services for youth, families and adults in the community at-large. Youth and families will receive guidance, mentoring, tutoring, educational programs, mental and behavioral health services, assistance with skill building and be introduced to available community resources. ACRP currently operates programs in Bedford, Blair, Cambria and Somerset Counties.

Who’s Eligible?

ACRP’s Summer Treatment Program is for children ages 5-12 and adolescents 13-16 years of age. Children with or eligible for Medical Assistance coverage (Access Card) and a mental health diagnosis of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or other disorders may be accepted. The child must be diagnosed by a psychiatrist or licensed psychologist who also indicates that the services are medically necessary. Referrals can be made by school staff, mental health professionals, physicians, agencies and parents. Only children who meet the above criteria will be considered. ACRP can assist you in obtaining an access card, and provides screenings and evaluations. Call today for an appointment or more information!

Program Background

The STP program, developed by Dr. William Pelham, is internationally recognized. It has been named as a “Model Program in Service Delivery in Child and Family Mental Health” by two separate divisions of the American Psychological Association and program of the year (2003) through CHADD. ACRP’s replication of the program has been recognized at the International Children and Adults with Attention Deficit Disorder (CHADD) Conference in Denver, Colorado (2003) and Nashville, Tennessee (2004) as one of 20 innovative programs that services children and families with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in the United States. Dr. Pelham’s program, based out of Florida International University , has operated at UPMC/Western Psych, Cleveland Clinic, UCLA, NYU, University of South Carolina, Canada, and Japan. The program has been modified to meet PA Department of Public Welfare requirements.

This Year’s Details...

The Summer Treatment Program is available to eligible children in Cambria County. We’ll offer back-to-back sessions. The programs will run from 9:00 am to 3:15 pm, Monday through Friday; except for Thursday, July 4th.
