ARPEXGanzstahlkupplungen All-steel CouplingsCharakteristische Merkmale Characteristic Features
" Winklig, radial, axial flexibel
" Montagefreundlich
ARPEX couplings are used for all engineering purposes where
reliable power transmission is required even with unavoidable
shaft misalignment.
" All-steel design
All components of ARPEX couplings are made out of high-quality steel. Thisresults in a compact, sturdy design which guarantees a longworking life witha very high degree of operational reliability.
" Maintenance-free and wear-resistant
ARPEX couplings are not subject to wear. With proper selection and carefulinstallation, an unlimited working life can be expected.
" Angular, radial and axial flexibility
The disc packs, made out of high-grade CrNi steel, mounted alternately onthe coupling flanges, allow compensation of shaft misalignments in angular,radial and axial direction.
" Torsionally rigid and free from circumferential backlash
Owing to the use of spring steel discs and close fitting bolt connections with-out circumferential backlash, the ARPEX coupling is torsionally rigid.
" Modular system
A large number of standard components can be combined in many differentcoupling types, thus enabling a great number of drive problems to be solvedby standard types.
" Temperature stability
SinceARPEXcouplingsareofall-steeldesign, theyaretemperature-resistantfrom -40 Cupto+280 C;designs inspecialmaterialsareavailable fortemper-atures from --196 Cup to+350 C. According toDirective94/9/EC, the follow-ing ambient temperatures Ta for the various temperature classes are valid forpossible use in hazardous areas (optional!):category II 2G : T2/T3/T4/T5/T6 --40 C Ta 230/150/85/50/35 Ccategory II 2D : 120 C --40 C Ta 70 C
" Easy installation
Most types facilitate radial installation of the spacer without the necessity tomove driving or driven machine.
" Low restoring forces
Using flexible, thin discs results in very low restoring forces, provided that thecoupling is properly aligned.
" Independent of direction of rotation
ARPEXcouplings operate in bothdirections of rotation andare therefore suit-able for reversing operation.
" Smooth operation
ARPEX coupling components aremachined to very close tolerances. There-fore, at speed, theassembled coupling transmits only very small forces to theconnected drive components.

Vorteile
Advantages
" Positive torque transmission
The decisive difference between the conical bolt connection and the closefitting bolts is the real positive locking, which occurs in the disc pack bolt con-nection. Thepositive locking is achievedby the conical design of the bolt con-nection.
" Easy assembly
Another decisive advantage is the significantly easier assembly. For the as-sembly of couplingswith conical bolt connection, the useof hydraulic assem-bly tools is no longer necessary (see table on page 9).
" Operation
By tightening the tightening bolt, the taper bolt is pulled into the taper sleeveand the sleeve is widened. Thus, positive locking is ensured both betweentaper bolt and taper sleeve and between taper sleeve, flange and disc pack.
" Lower weight
The conical bolt connection has weight and inertia advantages comparedwith close fitting bolt connections having the same torque capacity.
" Centering
The centering precision achieved by the conical bolt connection is extraordi-narily high. This facilitates a high balancing quality.
" Material
All components of the conical bolt connection are made out of high-qualityquenched and tempered steel.

1. Auslegung für ARPEX-Kupplungen im Dauerbetrieb
Das Antriebsdrehmoment ergibt sich aus:
TNenn =9550 x P
n
TNenn = Antriebsdrehmoment (Nm)P = Antriebsleistung (kW)n = Kupplungsdrehzahl (min--1)
Das Kupplungs-Nenndrehmoment TKN ergibt sich aus:
TKN TNenn x f1
f1 = Betriebsfaktor nach Tabelle 11.II
TKN TA / 2
TA = Maximales Anfahrdrehmoment (Nm)
m =J1
J2
J1 = Massenträgheitsmoment AntriebsseiteJ2 = Massenträgheitsmoment Abtriebsseite
TKNTkipp2
TKNTkipp x 0.8
m + 1
für m 0.6 gilt: für m < 0.6 gilt:
Tkipp = Motorkippmoment (Nm)
Tstoß = Stoßmoment (Nm)
4. Kupplungsauswahl
TNenn =9550 x 56 kW
1450 min--1= 368.8 Nm
Belastungskennwert aus Tabelle 11.I= GBetriebsfaktor aus Tabelle 11.II f1 = 1
a. Auslegung für Dauerbetrieb:
TKN 1 x 368.8 Nm = 368.8 Nm
b. Berücksichtigung von Anfahrstößen:
TKN Tkipp / 2 = 850 Nm / 2 = 425 Nm

Evtl. Rücksprache mit Kupp-lungshersteller.

ARPEXAll-steel CouplingsSelection, Calculation and Ordering Example
1. Selection for continuous operation
The input torque is calculated from:
TNenn =9550 x P
n
TNenn = Input torque (Nm)P = Input power rating (kW)n = Coupling speed (min--1)
The nominal coupling torque TKN results from:
TKN TNenn x f1
f1 = Service factor from table 13.II
2. Consideration of starting impacts
For starting a drive system, twice the nominal coupling torque is allowed forup to 5 starts per hour.
TKN TA / 2
TA = Max. starting torque (Nm)
For direct starting asynchronous motors, the permissible starting torquemust be at least equal to themotor pull-out torque. Decisive for the formulaofthe starting impact is the ratio of themassmoments of inertia of driving side todriven side.
m =J1
J2
J1 = Mass moment of inertia of driving sideJ2 = Mass moment of inertia of driven side
TKNTkipp
2TKN
Tkipp x 0.8
m + 1
for m 0.6 : for m < 0.6 :
Tkipp = Motor pull-out torque (Nm)
3. Shock loads
For very rarely occurring shock loads, such as short circuit torques which oc-cur during the total life with max. 103 load cycles, three times the nominalcoupling torque is permissible.
TKN Tstoß / 3
Tstoß = Shock load (Nm)
4. Coupling selection
The largest calculated value TKN decides on the coupling size. Having se-lected a coupling, a check has to be made that the maximum permissiblecoupling speed, listed in tables, is not exceeded and the expected shaft mis-alignments are within the permissible range (see pages 14--15).
5. Calculation example:
Required: ARPEX coupling in a centrifugal pump drive for liquid materials(e.g. water). Primemover = electricmotor withP =56 kWat 1450min--1 andapull-out torque of TKipp = 850 Nm;distance between shaft ends (DBSE) = 180 mm.
TNenn =9550 x 56 kW
1450 min--1= 368.8 Nm
Load classification symbol from table 13.I = UService factor from table 13.II f1 = 1
a. Selection for continuous operation:
TKN 1 x 368.8 Nm = 368.8 Nm
b. Taking into account starting impacts:
TKN Tkipp / 2 = 850 Nm / 2 = 425 Nm
Chosen:ARPEX coupling NHN125-6of theARS-6 serieswith DBSEof S8=180 mm and a nominal coupling torque of TKN = 490 Nm.The speed check shows it to be lower than the permissible speed (1450min--1 at < 8400 min--1).
6. Ordering example

Listed load classification symbols may be modified after giving exact detailsof operating conditions.Short circuit torques have not been taken into account with the load classifi-cation.
Note the following points when selecting a coupling:
1. Shaft misalignments have to be within the permissible values of the cho-sen coupling (see pages 14 and 15). If greater shaft misalignments areexpected, please refer to factory.
2. Permissible ambient temperatures -40 C up to +280 C.According to Directive 94/9/EC, the following temperature classes arevalid for possible use in hazardous areas (optional!):T2: --40 C up to +230 C; T3: --40 C up to +150 C;T4: --40 C up to +85 C; T5: --40 C up to +50 C; T6: --40 C up to +35 C.Other temperature ranges on request.
3. The operating speed must be equal to or lower than the permissiblespeed. Permissible speeds of drives with longer spacers are limited byweight and critical speed.
4. Attention is to be paid that with frequency-controlled motors there is sufficientdistance between the existing frequencies and the natural frequencies of theentire drive system. If in doubt, please consult the coupling manufacturer.

Winkel- und RadialversatzAngular and radial misalignment
Kr
L
Kw
Kr = tan Kw x L
L = Mittenabstand der Lamellenpakete
Beispiel:
Gesucht:
Permissible Shaft Misalignments
ARPEX couplings in standard design with two sets of disc packs can com-pensateangular, radial andaxial shaftmisalignments. Couplingswith onesetof disc packs can only compensate angular and axial, but no radial misalign-ment.
KAS -
AxialversatzAxial misalignment
KAS +
The tables on page 15 show the permissible angular and axial misalign-ments, the values for axialmisalignment referring to a complete couplingwithtwo sets of disc packs.
The listed values represent the total permissible misalignment. Consult theappropriate assembly instructions for permissible shaft misalignments.
The permissible radial misalignment depends on the permissible angularmisalignment and on the centre distance of the disc pack sets.
Kr = tan Kw x L
L = Centre distance of disc pack sets
Example:
Required:
Permissible misalignment for an ARPEX coupling type ARS-6 NHN 195-6with a DBSE of S8 = 1000 mm.
Permissible angular misalignment = 0.7 at Ka = 0 mmPermissible axial misalignment = 3.06 mm at Kw = 0Permissible axial misalignment at Kw = 0.3 = 1.75 mm
The corresponding permissible radial misalignment Kr with an angularmis-alignment of 0.3 is calculated as follows:
Centre distance of disc pack sets L = S8 - S1= 1000 mm - 15 mm = 985 mmKr = tan (0.3 ) x 985 mm = 5.15 mm

In cases where the shaft diameter is greater than the max. bore diameter ofN-hubs, Jumbo-hubs are used.Due to the greater hub core diameter ”d2”, the J-hub cannot bemounted as a”B-hub”.The J-hub can be combined with any spacer.

ARPEXBaureihe ARS-6 ARS-6 SeriesFunktion der Klemmnabe Bauarten 124 und 125 Function of Clamping Hub Types 124 and 125
Funktion
Function
ARPEX clamping hubs transmit torqueby means of a springy interference fit.By mounting the clamping ring with tightening bolts, the necessary surfacepressure is established in the shaft/hub contact area. After tightening, theclamping ring fits snugly against the clamping hub. The gap between clamp-ing hub and clamping ring is zero. As a result, the balance of the assembly ismaintained even after several mountings and removals (no wobbling effect).Clamping hubs can be tightened any number of time, as long as attention ispaid to sufficient grease on the taper surfaces.
Transmissible torque
The clamp connections are designed to transmit the maximum torques ”TKl max”of the clamping hubs listed in the table below. These maximum torques mustnot be exceeded. The calculated coefficient of friction is = 0.16. Shaft diame-ters should be selected according to DIN 748.
Fit clearance and surface roughness
The transmissible torques take into account themaximum fit clearance andmaxi-mum surface roughness. Standard bore/shaft fits areG6 / h6. For other shaft tol-erances, reduced torques or different bore tolerances must be applied. The shaftsurface roughness should be equal to or less than Ra = 1.6 m.

3. Bohrungen
DiedenFertigbohrungen zuzuordnendenToleranzfelder sindder Tabelle 48.Izu entnehmen.
4. Befestigung

ARPEXAll-steel CouplingsTechnical Information
1. Balancing of ARPEX couplings
The necessity of balancing ARPEX couplings depends on:Speed and coupling diameter (figure 47.2)Speed and length of spacer (figure 47.1)Speed and required balancing quality
Depending on geometry of components and speed, balancing is carried outin one or two planes following DIN ISO 1940-1. Depending on customer’sspecification, coupling parts are balanced individually or in assembled condi-tion.As standard, balancing is carried out before keyseating acc. to DIN ISO8821.
NOTE:
If balancing is to be carried out after keyseating, it must be explicitly stated inthe order.

2. Arrangement of coupling parts
Arrangement of coupling parts on shafts to be connected depends on thecoupling type.Disc pack assemblies of series ARS-6, ARC-8/10 (type NEN/NHN), andARW-4/6 are to be fastened alternately to the flanges of the hubs andspacers. For coupling types with B-hub, dimensions k3 and P have to betaken into account. If dimension P falls short, the close fitting bolts must beinserted before mounting the B-hub. Close fitting bolts cannot be exchangedafterwards without first removing the B-hub.
3. Bores
See table 48.I for appropriate tolerance zones of finished bores.
4. Mounting
ARPEX couplings for shaft ends of motors and gear units are normally pro-vided with parallel keyways acc. to DIN 6885-1; larger couplings for shaftswith taper keyway acc. to DIN 6886 with stressed-type fastening from insideof hub.
5. Safety precautions
To prevent accidents, all rotating parts should be guarded according to localand national safety regulations.
6. Fitting and removing shafts
ARPEX couplings of the most different types make possible fitting and re-moving of shafts and machines without displacing them axially.
7. Possible shaft misalignments
ARPEX couplings with two disc pack assemblies (two joints) compensate ra-dial, angular and axial shaft misalignments. ARPEX couplings with one discpack assembly can only compensate angular and axial shaft misalignments.
8. Replacement of coupling components
All components of ARPEX couplings can be replaced, provided that matingparts are still in perfect condition. In this connection, special attention shouldbe given to the bores of the close fitting bolts.
9. Installation and putting into operation
For installation and putting into operation, observe the respective operatinginstructions supplied with each coupling.
10. Flange-connected pulleys or flywheels
For coupling types with flange, the permissible circumferential speed of thepulley or flywheel to be mounted is to be taken into account.
11. State at time of supply
With exceptions in the ARF and ARC series, ARPEX couplings are suppliedin separate parts.H-spacers are painted with ametal primer; machined surfaces arepreservedby means of Tectyl.Some couplings of the ARF and ARC series are supplied as complete unitswith preassembled disc packs. Disassembly of these coupling parts shouldonly be carried out after prior consulation with the manufacturer.
12. Technical changes
Changes in dimensions and technical values possible due to further technicaldevelopment.
