SAWA GROUP
Engineeringlife’s essentials
Since 2008
Established in 2008, SAWA group (originally Aquabor International) specialises in the design and development of infrastructure, superstructure, waterworks, public housing and power generation facilities.
After listening to the needs of our clients, we were able to offer a full suite of services in Malawi by 2010 – contracting, engineering, operational support and facilities management.
Reducing our global carbon footprint became an integral part of our vision and in 2014, growth in the large renewable energy sector enabled us to expand into neighbouring Zambia.

Trust and teamwork
In 2015 Aquabor International was rebranded to Sawa Group to better reflect our culture. ‘SAWA’ means ‘true’ in Kiswahili and ‘togetherness’ in Arabic.
The group relocated its headquarters to Dubai, UAE in recognition of the increasing commercial significance of the wider Middle East & Africa (MEA).
In the same year, the group unveiled its new regional head office, Sawa Park – a purpose built, state-of-the-art facility, strategically located in Lilongwe.
Who we areSawa Group offers turnkey civil and electromechanical engineering, as well as support solutions in sub-Saharan Africa. We are emerging as a leader in the design and development of infrastructure, waterworks, power generation facilities and public housing.
We have a strong track record of delivering projects on-time and within budget, whilst maintaining constant communication with stakeholders throughout.
Sawa Group supports local communities by working with local suppliers and sub-contractors. As one of few regional contractors to offer design as well as maintenance engineering and facilities management, we are in the best position to comply with all functional, technical, quality, safety and contractual requirements.

Our approachWe strive for best practice to innovate, create and implement engineering, construction and integrated support services in developing economies.
Making a differenceOur mission is to transform lives by transforming the built environment. The power to influence the future of the built environment carries with it great responsibility, one which we do not take lightly.
Many of SAWA’s projects leave a legacy to subsequent generations. This outlasts any one individual. By putting sustainability at the heart of our work, we make a positive contribution to the world. To ensure we meet this goal consistently, our team is committed to the certification of its Quality Management Systems (QMS) to SO 9001:2015.
Shaping a sustainable future will be one of the greatest challenges in the 21st century. We are investing in research and innovating in all areas to deliver even better solutions for our clients worldwide.
Commitment to sustainabilitySAWA is committed to conserving natural resources. We implement numerous initiatives to promote environmental stewardship, reduce waste, and minimise energy use / carbon emissions in construction and transportation.
Strategic Environmental Assessment is integrated at the earliest stage of policies and programmes. This extends to all subcontractors, delivery partners and suppliers as part of our commitment to certifying our Environmental Management Systems (EMS) to ISO 14001:2004.
Our specialists offer a multidisciplinary service, aimed at developing policy, assessing impact, creative design and implementation, gaining regulatory approvals, reporting publicly, managing risk and controlling costs.

Safety firstManaging risk is central to our objective of ensuring all sites and locations we operate from are safe. Our Health and Safety Management System focuses on four elements to achieve continuous improvement:
Workforce engagement
All employees and contractors are trained in SAWA health and safety policies during their induction period. Additional programmes prevent injury and ill health, driving continuous improvement in health and safety performance.
Managerial responsibility
The safety of our people is of the utmost importance to us. Therefore, we engage team members at all levels to make safety everyone’s responsibility. In particular, line-managers communicate and drive safe working practices.
Training
Our people are the route of our success. Therefore we continue to invest in them in order to attract, develop and retain the best. Combined with a supportive environment, everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Inspection
Independent assessors regularly visit our various sites and locations to ensure we are compliant and transparent. Members of our senior management team also conduct inspections to ensure good health and safety practice continues.

Ethical and responsible SAWA is committed to balancing economic sustainability with our social and environmental responsibilities. Respect begins with the way we treat our own employees. This extends to our interaction with the communities in which we operate and the way we manage with relationships within our supply chain.
Equally, the care we take as a business, to nurture and protect the natural environment, is fundamental. This means we always ensure we are ethical, taking care to minimise our impact on natural resources and local communities.
Supporting local communitiesThe SAWA Foundation spearheads our corporate citizenship initiatives. It was created to facilitate the distribution of humanitarian aid in the local region. Today, our efforts now include helping local people to find employment, and providing training grants to improve access to career opportunities.
Our mission is to encourage the advancement of education. We believe in the positive power of promoting, furthering and sharing knowledge of issues in the built environment.
