My first order of business when I moved to New York was tofind accommodation. I needed to find a place to rent as soonas possible. My first choice was to get an apartment.Unfortunately, I quickly found out that the only area I couldafford was an hour's subway ride from downtown. I then

decided to look for a studio in a neighborhood closer towork. I spoke with a number of landlords, but wasn't able tofind anything. Then, I decided to go to a real estate agent forhelp. The agent was very helpful, but the fee was a fullmonth's rent! I agreed and the agent showed me a few

places. The first was in the basement and had very badlighting. The next place was a furnished studio that wasvery cluttered. The last place was on a quiet block with

parking in the back. I signed the lease immediately.
