Investing in QualityTo cater for the increasing demand from students for places in Residences, the University has developed a complex of modern, high quality residential accommodation. In recent years we at Aberystwyth have invested over £24m in new student residences and our investment enables us to accommodate you in attractive, neighbourly and environmentally sensitive communities.

Applying for Accommodation in ResidencesThe Accommodation Office administers a central system for applications to University Accommodation.

We have a guarantee of a place in University accommodation for our new students:

Fresher students (Home and European Union students) The Accommodation Office will automatically send out a letter inviting applicants to apply online for University accommodation, from April 1st onwards, upon receipt of confirmation that you are holding Aberystwyth University as your firm or insurance choice. Accommodation managed by the University for your first year is guaranteed, if you apply before 1st August and respond to the offer of accommodation within the given deadlines.

Postgraduates The Accommodation Office will automatically send out a letter inviting applicants to apply online for University accommodation as soon as the Admissions Office confirms that your application is fully complete i.e. when all academic and financial checks are found to be satisfactory. We guarantee accommodation managed by the University for your first year if you apply before the 1st September deadline and respond to the offer of accommodation within the given deadlines.

International Students Full time International students (undergraduates and postgraduates) are guaranteed a place in accommodation managed by the University, throughout the duration of their taught courses, provided that applications are made at the appropriate time in each year of residence.

As a new student you will be invited to make accommodation preferences in your application. We can guarantee you a place in University accommodation but we cannot guarantee to match your accommodation preferences.

Special Requirements for AccommodationWe welcome applications from students with special requirements and have a number of adapted rooms available in University Residences. We will endeavour to allocate the most suitable accommodation during each year of your study at the University provided that applications are received within the published Accommodation Office deadlines.

If you have a medical condition or sensory impairment or special requirements please give details when completing your application form for accommodation. All information will be treated with confidence and will help in the allocation of the most appropriate accommodation for individual needs.

Aberystwyth University is committed to the principles of inclusion and equal opportunities. We offer ongoing advice, information and guidance to our students. Prospective students are encouraged to contact the Student Welcome Centre, in confidence, to discuss their requirements before making a formal application.

Private Sector AccommodationThe Accommodation Office maintains a register of private sector accommodation, suitable for student use, ranging from flats, bedsitting rooms, shared houses and single study bedrooms with cooking facilities.

At the beginning of the academic year private sector accommodation of all kinds is in great demand and students who are seeking accommodation in the private sector are advised to make arrangements as early as possible.

The Accommodation Office staff are familiar with the properties on the register and are happy to advise students who may be experiencing difficulties in private sector accommodation.

Summer Vacation ResidenceAs most of the term-time Residences are used for vacation visitors, students requiring accommodation during the summer vacation should note that summer vacation residence will not necessarily mean they can remain in the same Residence that they have occupied during the academic session. Accommodation will be available at designated units which means that students requiring summer vacation residence may need to relocate during the Summer vacation.

Energy Charges, Bedding and CleaningHeating and lighting are included in the Accommodation Fees. You will need to provide your own bedding, bed linen, cutlery and crockery. Students are responsible for maintaining appropriate levels of cleanliness in their own bedrooms and they also have a collective responsibility (along with fellow residents) for communal areas such as kitchens / diners and bathrooms.

Bedding Packs, Study Packs and Kitchen PacksBedding packs, study packs and kitchen packs can be purchased by students in advance of their arrival in Aberystwyth from Uni-box.http://www.theuni-box.com/Uni-box will deliver to any address in the UK mainland or in Northern Ireland.

Insurance of Personal EffectsWe have in place a block-cover policy covering the personal effects of all students in Residences. You can increase particular levels of cover if you feel that the standard levels are insufficient, for example, in respect of personal computers, by paying additional premium direct to the insurers. The cost of the basic premium is included within the accommodation fees.

Network Connections in RoomsAll student bedrooms have a network connection offering high-speed access via the JANET academic computer network. There is no charge for this service. This service is provided primarily for academic purposes and the only restrictions are that some non-academic uses are not allowed for performance and security reasons.

To connect to the network your computer will need:• an ethernet card (most computers come with this as

standard)

• a network (RJ45) cable - these are available to purchase on campus priced £2
