Introduction

Under Floor Air Distribution

Increasingly under floor air distributionsystems are used in many buildings andnot just for computer rooms. Under floorsystems allow the designer flexibility inspace planning and meeting client needsin endlessly changing internalenvironments. Versatility is coupled witheconomics to provide quick and easyrelocation of the air terminal device bysimply lifting and re-positioning the tile,adding to the popularity of these systems.

There are many types of floor mounted airterminal devices for use in domestic,industrial, commercial and computerroom applications, for both the supply oftreated air and for extract from theoccupied space.

When positioning floor grilles or diffuserscare should be taken to ensure that thefinal location complies with the relevantlegislation for Health and Safety in thework place.

To satisfy the demand for under floor airdistribution systems Air Diffusion havebrought together the most comprehensiverange of Floor Grilles and Diffusers, whichincludes circular floor swirls, an extensiverange of panel floor tile replacement andlinear style grilles to suit most proprietaryfloor installations and applications.

Model TAFR Circular Floor Swirl Diffuser

DescriptionModel TAFR circular floor swirl diffuserblends both form and function into itsdesign. The diffuser face possesses aseries of curved slots, which provides ahigh induction helical air pattern and yetresults in an astonishingly low plenumpressure, making it ideal for mostapplications using pressurised under floorair distribution systems.

Cleverly incorporated into the design is amanual air volume damper, which is easilyadjusted by simply rotating the diffuserface. Each diffuser is supplied with M6grub screws as a damper locking screw.Visual status of the damper position is viathe external open/close indicator coupledwith the internal open/close stop. There isno need to remove the diffuser face, a

unique feature only found in the ModelTAFR.

Each diffuser also includes a dirt/dustcollection receptacle, which is easilyremoved for cleaning.

ConstructionConstructed from durable high impactpolycarbonate material, manufactured tocomply with UL 94-5V standard forflammability and smoke.

Dimension and FinishModel TAFR is supplied in a standardnominal size of 200mm diameter and isavailable in two standard finishes: Blackor Grey.

Standard Installation MethodFloor panel installation into a preparedopening is by, quick mount under floor,

positive compression, gasketed ring forrapid and secure fixing. The extra wideflange is to prevent carpet, pulling awayfrom the diffuser edge. The diffuser maybe installed after the flooring or carpetfitting is complete.

Relocation of the diffuser to another areais simply carried out by moving the entirefloor panel to the desired new position.Removal of the diffuser from the floorpanel is not normally required.

Model LDA Light Duty Panel Floor Grille

DescriptionModel LDA light duty tile replacementpanel floor grille is designed to withstanda light loading and or foot traffic.Constructed entirely from aluminiumextrusions and having a reinforced framecombines strength with air distributionperformance, ideal for use in most generalresidential premises, private houses andoffices, general offices and elderlyresidences where no heavy equipment ispresent. Model LDA is suitable for use oneither supply or extract systems and maybe fitted with an optional opposed bladedamper.

To satisfy insulation and safetyrequirements the exposed surfaces of thegrille can have a tough nylon coatingapplied. Earth terminals are also availablewhen required.

TestingThe grille has been successfully testedwithout collapse to comply with thespecification and structural integrityrequirements of British and European teststandard BS EN 13264:2001, Light Dutyclassification.

FinishStandard finish is brushed aluminiumalternatively a black nylon coating or othercolours are available. As a special optiona Shadow Line finish is also available.

DimensionsThe standard floor grille size is 599mm x599mm overall, to suit mostmanufacturers floor panel sizes. Otherspecial sizes are also available.

DescriptionModel PFS heavy-duty tile replacementpanel floor grille is designed to satisfyheavy load requirements. Constructedfrom aluminium extrusions and reinforcedwith a steel sub-frame ensures positivehigh load strength and is thereforeappropriate for most computer roominstallations.

Model PFS is suitable for use on eithersupply or extract systems and may befitted with an optional opposed bladedamper.

TestingThe Model PFS has been successfullytested to the specification requirements ofMOB PF2.PS Appendix B. January 1990,which includes a rolling load. Thisgenerally complies with the loadrequirements of the Property GroupDesign Guide of IBM (UK).

Model F48 Flanged Panel Floor Grille

DescriptionModel F48 medium/heavy duty tilereplacement flanged panel floor grille isdesigned to satisfy medium/heavy loadrequirements. Constructed from heavygauge aluminium extrusions having a48mm wide flange frame. Most commonuse is in office areas to suit edge seamedfloors where an overlapping flange isrequired. Model F48 is suitable for use oneither supply or extract systems and maybe fitted with an optional opposed bladedamper.


FinishStandard finish is brushed aluminium,alternatively a black nylon coating, orother colours are also available. As a

special option a Shadow Line finish mayalso be provided.

DimensionsThe standard floor grille size is 599mm x599mm over flange (+0.5 – 0.0mm), tosuit an overall floor depth of 6.4mm.Please note flange width is 48mm. Otherspecial sizes are also available.

Standard Installation MethodEach grille incorporates a recessed flangearrangement to allow drop in tilereplacement installation via stringerssupported on floor manufacturers raisedfloor jacks, typically to suit a “Tate” stylefloor panel. All grilles are manufactured toa panel depth of 6.4mm. To ensure a neatinstallation this thickness must correspondwith the adjacent floor panels, includingthe final finish covering. (All fixings andfloor jacks by others).

DescriptionModel FG Light/Medium duty linear floorgrille is designed to satisfy light/mediumload requirements in recessed openings.Constructed from aluminium extrusionsusing a 6.5mm bar on a 14.5mm pitchwith a flangeless border having a fixedcore as standard or optional removablecore. Model FG can be used on eithersupply or extract systems and may befitted with an optional opposed bladedamper.

DescriptionModel F20 and F25 Light/Medium dutyflanged linear bar floor grille is designed tosatisfy light/medium load requirements.Constructed from aluminium extrusionsusing a 6.5mm bar on a 14.5mm pitchwith either a 20mm or 25mm wide flangeborder having a fixed core as standard oroptional removable core. Model F20 &F25 can be used on either supply orextract systems and may be fitted with anoptional opposed blade damper.

To make provision for cable entry into theoccupied space via the floor void, anintegral brush section can be fitted to theModels F20 and F25. The brushes allowthe cables to pass through and form aseal around the cable.

The brush sections can be manufacturedto dimensions to suit the application.Opposed blade dampers are only fitted toactive sections of grille.

Model RO Rollout Linear Floor Grille

DescriptionModel RO Light Duty rollout linear floorgrille is designed to satisfy light loadrequirements in recessed openings wherea removable lay in core is required toallow easy access beneath the finishedfloor level. Constructed from aluminiumextrusions using a 6.5mm bar on a 19mmpitch mounted on steel springs havingaluminium/nylon spacers between eachblade. Model RO can be used on eithersupply or extract systems.

FinishStandard finish is natural aluminium oralternatively natural anodised aluminium.As a special option colour anodising maybe supplied.

To avoid unsightly scratches or scoring ofthe grille surface it is not recommended touse colour anodising or paint finisheswhere the grilles will be subject to regularfoot or any other form of traffic.

DimensionsSupplied to suit a nominal length and upto a maximum nominal width of 600mm.To retain rigidity grille widths in excess of300mm will require additional longitudinalsupports, by others, within the structuralopening.

To form a continuous appearance,individual sections are supplied loose andbutted together on site, by others.

Standard Installation MethodFor lay in, recessed installation, by others,into prepared openings.

A separate sub frame assembly can beprovided for site fixing, by others. EitherFG, F20 frames or a standard angle maybe used for this purpose.
