The Issue/Challenge for all Stakeholders
Broad based implementation lags significantly behind original expectations.
eLearning has not yet reached the tipping point where new technologies move into mass diffusion and profoundly change existing usage patterns, application and business models
eLIG's Recommendations
Professional Development and the use of ICT in eLearning for Teachers/Tutors
The need for and importance of open eLearning Standards
The importance of a Common Architecture approach
Digital Content Development and the importance of a sustainable Commercial Model
The importance of Networking Technology Strategies and the use of ICT in eLearning
Concerted Action by All Stakeholders
Professional Development and the use of ICT in eLearning for Teachers/Tutors
The Challenge
How to improve the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) of 'educators', i.e. teachers,
tutors, educational leaders using eLearning and ICT.
Networking of leadership knowledge, in the first instance, is crucial and this can be effected through the creation of a learning network across Europe with regional groups. Building on existing virtual communities, such as the European Schoolnet
Creating an EU Leadership and Educators 'virtual college', a European-wide version of the UK National College for School Leadership.
Using these virtual communities to share information on practice, standards, quality digital content, use of ICT via case studies, chatrooms and online conferences. Reviewing current Teacher Training Programmes and their appropriateness for the advent of eLearning and use of ICT in schools, universities.
Reviewing and revising all current funding programmes for eLearning materials, ICT and support.
Accelerating the deployment of broadband connections for all educational establishments to the Internet and then to each other.

A Final Word ….
We are going through a historic transformation in the way we live, learn, work, communicate and do business. We must do so not passively, but as makers of our own destiny. Technology has produced the information age. Now it is up to all of us to build an Information Society
