This week’s main
feature is all about
the drumming!

our budding
musicians got up to.
Hard Work Respect Aspiration
Points of Interest
Drumming Workshops with Richard Jupp Last week budding drummers were asked to ‘audition’ to take part in a
masterclass with former Elbow drummer Richard Jupp. On Monday 7th
November the shortlisted students had the opportunity to be mentored
by Rick in an hour long workshop.
The pupils had varying degrees of drumming experience and spent their
time improving skills they already had whilst ‘feeling’ the music and
‘getting into a groove’. The whole point of the day was to teach the kids
discipline and generally have fun. ‘Rick’s a legend when is he
coming back’ was one of the comments from Tyler. Truly
inspirational, Rick had a great rapport with the kids and explained
he was a normal lad with a love for drumming who formed a band
with his mates at 18….the rest they say is history as the band went
on to become Elbow.
A keen drummer himself big thanks goes out to Mr Mellen for
helping to arrange the session. Keep an eye on our the website
and social media pages as I’m sure we’ll be inviting Rick back for
future masterclasses.

Peppered Moth Project Message from TCH;
Year 7 have been busy recently creating an
installation for the ‘Change’ project in
conjunction with Stanley Grove Primary
School. Students were shown a brief in form
time to explain the theme around the
project, which was based upon the
resilience of the Peppered Moth in the
18oo’s when pollution forced them to adapt
to their environment.
Students created three moths each from
templates, and then attached magnets to
them to enable them to be placed on a chosen
metallic surface.
We chose to place the moths on the ceiling area
on Main Street at Cedar Mount so everybody
can see them.

Year 10 Football
Message from MRO:
The year 10 football team played away at Manchester Academy last night.
The lads played exceptionally well and we came away with a 4 nil win. Callum on target
again scored two giving him ten goals in 4 games!!
Please congratulate the lads if you see them around the academy.
Message from EAL; what a team! Congratulations once more.
Message from PME; well done Year 10 and coaches
Message from JAN; MRO – they are going from strength to strength. A
great result and well done to all.
Humanities Trip to Manchester University LMO and RPE took 10 students to Manchester University for the day to take part in an event for the
Festival of Social Science. The day was aimed at college students but our pupils, in Year 8-10,
more than held their own in competition with them.
The students were split in to six groups and given data to present back. Our boys came second
out of six, which is obviously a fantastic achievement, given the difference in age. The lecturers
who were running the day couldn’t stop singing the praises of all of our students. You would have
been incredibly proud if you had seen how they performed and how they conducted themselves.

Remembrance Day Armistice Day is on 11 November. It's also known as
Remembrance Day. A two minute silence is observed
at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month because
this is when World War I, or the Great War, ended in
1918. But now, this anniversary is used to remember all
the people who've died in wars since World War I.
The second Sunday day of November is
Remembrance Sunday. At 11am men, women and
children all across Britain hold a two minute silence to
remember the millions who have died in war.
The silence is usually observed at war memorials, cenotaphs,
religious services and shopping centres throughout the
country.
The Royal Family, along with top politicians and religious
leaders, gather at The Cenotaph in Whitehall, London, for a
service.
Also every evening since 1928 the Last Post has been played
under the Menin Gate Memorial in Ypres, Belgium at 8pm to
pay respects to those who lost their lives in World War I.
In September two of our students visited to lay a wreath
on behalf of Cedar Mount Academy and pay their
respects.

National News Message from Mentorn Media;
I work at Mentorn Media, a production company in London. We are currently trying to find some
families who might be interested in appearing on our new Channel 4 Documentary.
Mentorn Media and are casting for a new documentary for Channel 4 about UK families and households with different
choices and decisions towards budgeting and lifestyle. For the main part of the documentary we will be looking at
opposing families, one who prefers to spend their hard earned wages, whilst the other prefers to save every penny. The
families will swap homes and budgets for a few days - we’re hoping the families will learn from each other and
we'll discover how exactly our spending/saving effects our lives.
Essentially we want to look into how spending and lifestyle choices differ from family to family. The idea is that the
show will provide a positive and fresh insight into how we choose to spend our wages and answer some of our most
burning questions: Where does our money go? How can people afford to live a certain way? Can we improve in any
way?
Many thanks,
Rhiannon Lucas

It’s that time of the week again! Let’s see how good you are at solving this
week’s word search. The first person from KS3 lunch and the first person from
KS4 lunch to take their completed word search to Student Services will get a
sweet treat! Good luck!
