Spackenkill High School (SHS) was named a 2018 National Blue Ribbon School by the US Department of Education, the first HS in Dutchess County to receive this honor and one of only 62 awarded that year.

SHS was named a Reward School four times beginning in 2014 by the New York State Department of Education for being one of the state’s highest-performing high schools.

SHS has appeared on the top high school lists for US News and World Report, The Washington Post, and Newsweek.

Poughkeepsie Mayor Rob Rolison (’76); Professor of Public

Policy at Harvard Kennedy School and former Congressional

Budget Office Director Douglas Elmendorf (’79 valedictorian);

Disney screenwriter Rita Hsaio (’81); internationally acclaimed

cellist Bion Tsang (’84); Dr. Kate Dooley (’02), a senior

member of the scientific team that first detected gravitational

waves; Sports Emmy Award winners Alex Olsen (’05) and

Brandon Terralavoro (’07); Dr. Ian Matts (’07), a postdoctoral

scientific researcher at Berkeley Lab; and Manhattan

entrepreneur Brittany Lo (’10).
