Cambridge School, New Friends Colony Monthly Report December 2017 The highlight of the month was the Activity Week from December 21 to 29. And, with the good weather, a lot of outings and outdoor activities were scheduled accordingly. A. Academic and Co-Curricular Work Art Art appreciation trips to the National Gallery of Modern Art were organized for the students’ of class IV. Mr. A. K. Ganguly, the gallery’s guest-lecturer, took the students around the gallery and briefed them about the various exhibits. It is heartening to see the excitement of the children when they recognize art works that they have seen at school already as slides. At the end of the trip, the children did some sketching by looking at some statue or installation on display in the lawns of NGMA. Inter section art competitions were held for classes I to V. The students were given the topic on the spot. Spontaneity led to some students making beautiful drawings.

The highlight of the month was the Activity Week from December 21 to 29. And, with the good

weather, a lot of outings and outdoor activities were scheduled accordingly.

A. Academic and Co-Curricular Work

Art

Art appreciation trips to the National Gallery of Modern Art were organized for the students’

of class IV. Mr. A. K. Ganguly, the gallery’s guest-lecturer, took the students around the gallery

and briefed them about the various exhibits. It is heartening to see the excitement of the

children when they recognize art works that they have seen at school already as slides. At the

end of the trip, the children did some sketching by looking at some statue or installation on

Inter – section art competitions were held for classes I to V. The students were given the topic

Social Studies

Class III visited the Humayun’s Tomb as a part of their SST curriculum. The visit was conducted

by volunteers from the Aga Khan Trust. The children were taken to all the structures in the

complex such as Bu Halima’s Garden and Tomb, Isa Khan’s Mosque and Tomb, Arab-Sarai and

the Humayun’s Tomb, as well as the Charbagh. Before taking a look at each of these structures,

the children were given a short history lesson and some information about each structure by

the volunteers. At the end of the trip, the students had a small session in cartooning and

calligraphy, by experts from the Agha Khan Trust.

Children of class IV and V went for a 4-day educational trip to Ahmedabad. The students visited

Sabarmati Ashram, Adlaj Wav, and went for a heritage walk to the old city. They also visited

Lothal which is an excavation site and concluded their trip by shopping at the Law Market.

B. Sports

The 11th Shri A.C Deb Memorial Inter-School Football Tournament was organized by

Cambridge School, Noida (Jr. Wing) from December 11, 2017 to December 15, 2017. Both,

the boys and girls football team participated in this tournament. Though our boys’ team secured

the second position against D.P.S Ghaziabad, unfortunately the girls team was knocked out in

the semi finals.

C. ACTIVITY WEEK – 21st DEC. – 29th DEC., 2017

Activity Week 2017 was a six-day celebration from the 21st December till the 29th.

It is a week devoted to learning, fun and enjoyment. Special activities, field trips and workshops

are organized.

The Activity Week included the following:

School Events

The Christmas Assembly was presented by class VC on December 23rd . The assembly was a blend of dancing and singing and Christmas carols.

The finalists of the Inter-Section Public Speaking and Recitation competitions, participated in the

Open Mike Event, which was held on December 28. Children of other Cambridge schools also

participated in these events. Children presented songs, dances, poems, jokes and passages.

Mr. Mehraj Alam, associated with Danceworks, performed a fusion of Salsa and Jazz. The dance

recital was organized for classes II – V. The event started with a lecture demonstration of the

dance, followed by the actual performance.

The highlight of this year’s Activity Week was the adventure camp organized for the students of

classes I & II, by a company named ‘Rocksport’, within the school premises.

On the last day of the Activity Week, we had the magic show organized for the whole school.

We also had a juggler, who went from class to class and showed some juggling tricks to the

students. And, lastly, it all ended with class parties.

Inter – Section Events

G. K. Quiz contests were held for all classes from I upwards.

Spell Bee was held for classes III to V.

Public Speaking and Recitation competitions were held for classes I to V. Each class had a

specific topic for both English Recitation and Hindi Public Speaking.

Workshops

Mr. Ajit Narayanan visited the school as guest artist and had a cartooning session with the

students of class IV.

A computer workshop on movie making was conducted for the students of class III - V by Pratima Gupta

Music workshops were conducted for the students of class V by Mithu Pal and Raj Kumar.

Children were shown the jal tarang.

Art workshop on ‘Doodle Art’ was taken by Anju Mathur, for the students of class IV

Drama workshops for the students of classes IV & V were taken by Jaspreet Kaur and Rishi.

Hindi workshops were also conducted by Manjula Vats and Supriya, for the students of classes IV and V.

Class Events

All classes watched movies.

The Nurseries carried home a work of craft every day. They also did clay modelling.

A treasure hunt activity was organized for students of class V.

This year children did wall painting in the Warli style.

Traditional games like Pitthu, Kho-Kho, Langri-taang and Tug – a – war were played by the

children every day. Indoor games or jigsaw puzzles were also played daily.

Other activities like non-fire cooking, fruit-chaat making, Bingo, Tambola, Pictionary, Dumb

Charades, and Tangram were enjoyed by all classes.

The Activity Week ended with class parties in all classes. Children brought food from different regions of India and shared and ate together.

Outdoor Trips

Picnic was organized for the students of class III. They went to Lodhi Garden.

Prep went to the Zoo.

Nursery went for a trip to the Rail Museum.

Students of class II visited Bal Bhawan. They watched a wordless theatre performance called

‘Mandragona Circus’, presented by artist from Argentina. The play as an amalgamation of aerial

acrobatics, juggling and various circus stunts. Thereafter, the children were taken around the

museum, the bird corner and the magical mirror section.

D. Inter School Events

IMAGE 2017 – India and the World, Cambridge School, Noida, had organized multiple competitions

Lok Tarang - Group Folk Song Competition – 10 children participated.

Painting Topic – African Folk Art - 02 students participated

Mask making using paper – 02 students participated

Story Telling – Folk tales from around the world – 02 students participated

Show and Tell – Some unusual festivals of the world – 01 student participated

Hindi Kavita Vachan – 10 students participated

E. Counselling

The school counsellor Ms. Yasmin Asghar conducted sex education classes for the

students of class V. She also took classes on ‘Good Touch Bad Touch’ with most of

the students of classes I - V.

To celebrate and enhance the skills and talents of children with special needs and to promote

inclusion in co- curricular platforms, Kothari International School, invited students with special

needs, to their annual event, called Rainbow 2017 – “Making a difference”. Two special needs

students participated, from our school.

F. Teacher Enrichment Programmes

The school organized a presentation on ‘Value Education’, conducted by Ms. Pallavi Sikri. She

spoke about the different kinds of values a child ought to know, supporting her values with a

few examples.

G. Miscellaneous

All three sections of class V went to Cambridge School, Srinivaspuri, for a campus visit. The day

started with the address by the principal, followed by a cultural program and talks by the

students and alumni. The day ended with the students being taken on a school tour.

In accordance with the directorate orders, a security committee was formed, comprising of a few parents, students and teachers. This committee met in the month of December, to help

everyone understand the security measures the school has undertaken to ensure the security

of all present in school.
