The third position was shared between Gunjan Narang and Ananya Saraswat of PGDAV College and Anish Manchanda and Tanvi Thareja of ARSD College. Sonali Warlyani and Anubhav Jain of PGDAV College were given the consolation prize whereas the best interjector prize was bagged by Pragya Pandey of PGDAV College.

Knowledge Sharing Sessions are one of the important tools of the society to spread awareness not only to members of Satark but to all students of the College. The first Knowledge sharing session (KSS) on ‘Consumer Protection Act’ and about malpractices generally used by retailers and other service providers which consumers usually fail to notice was lucidly presented on 4th September 2018, by Himali, President of the Society. On 30th October 2018, second Knowledge Sharing Session was organized in collaboration with e-Parisara (aurhorized recycler). Mr Manoj Kandpal emphasized the need to adopt environment-friendly recycling practices and gave useful insights on the numerous ways of recycling e-waste.

Outreach plays a significant role in reaching out to others to build an aware society. Satark understands it’s responsibility; and on 6th October 2018, members went to visit the NGO Blessings, and informed the women and children about Consumer Rights protection and complaint filing procedure via three acts depicting how the consumers get cheated and how they must raise their voice against that. Again on 24th December 2018, National Consumers Day, the club members went to Shanti Sahyog NGO, where through three skits, one case story, consumer rights and responsibilities were shared. It was followed by an interactive discussion. Dr Vandana Agrawal was one of the panellists in a Discussion organized by Consumers India on the topic, ‘Is Junk Food Making Our Children Obese?’

Internships provide real-world experiences and better understanding of consumer issues. Teena Awana of B. Com (Prog.) interned with Consumers India and was taught to file an RTI.

Technology is invading every area. Komal Joshi started Satark’s Blog and Instagram Page to create a platform to share experiences, grievances or any matter of consumer interest. The Satark Team also provided solutions of the grievances that came their way.

fest, which is recognized by the Uttarakhand Government as the ‘Annual Youth festival of Uttarakhand’.

The Annual Freshers’ Talent Hunt, Exploranza was held on 28th Sep, 2018 to give an opportunity to the newly admitted first year students to showcase their talent. We understand that it’s an artist’s duty to reflect the time in which we live so we kept “Let There Be Light” as this year’s theme for Exploranza. Prior to the main event we had intra-mural competitions on the 6th, 7th and 10th of September to discover the talent among our freshers and give them a stage to showcase themselves on the day of Exploranza. Participants addressed important social issues through paintings, rangoli, photography, plays, poetry, etc. Noted journalist Sh Ashok Shrivastav and leading Odissi dancer Guru Kavita Dwibedi graced this occasion.

The annual cultural festival, AAGHAZ was organized on 12th and 13th February, 2019. This year the theme was ‘Jashn-e-Khwaab’ – Celebration of Dreams. It was a tribute to the ambitious human spirit that dares to achieve its dreams no matter how difficult they may seem. The two day fest was a culmination of culture, colours and talent with 26 competitions under various categories like Music, Dance, Drama, Literature and Fine Arts among others. Fest witnessed the performances of famous Antariksh Band, Stand-Up Comedian Jeeveshu Ahluwalia and DJ Tatva k. It drew participation from students of various universities both in and out of Delhi and was graced by Mr. Manoj Tiwari, the Delhi BJP Chief, MP and renowned singer and superstar of Bhojpuri films.

On 22nd February, ABHIVYAKTI’19 the popular stage play festival of the college was organized in Muktadhara Auditorium. The festival witnessed the incredible performances of budding actors and directors who have come from different colleges. Colleges like Miranda House, Hindu, SRCC, Hansraj, I P College for Women, Ramjas, Jamia Millia Islamia etc. took part in the event and helped make it a grand success. On 17th March, Rudra the street play society organized its annual street play event, Shor’19 “Shor-e-Ibadat”, where the prominent theatre societies of DCTC participated. An exclusive event named D-Jembe Faceoff was held and there was be a special showcase performance in which a legendary play “Nabbe Seconds Ki Redlight” of the past year was be performed by the original cast.

The PGDAV College chapter of Spic Macay, a nonprofit organisation started by Dr Kiran Seth to promote Indian culture and heritage among the youth, remained active throughout the year with workshops, meetings, movie screenings, concerts and recitals. The highpoint of this year’s activities was the showcasing of Langa music in the college.

On 4th October 2018 the college hosted a performance by Sh. Anwar Khan Langa and his troupe. The Langas are a hereditary community of musical performers from Rajasthan. They are not simply musicians, they are also story tellers and oral genealogists. Langa literally means ‘song giver’ and this community represents the vibrant music culture of Rajasthan. Their full throated, soulful singing captures all aspects of Rajasthani life and they sing songs of legendary battles, heroes, lovers and gods. Muslims by religion, the Langas sing in praise of Hindu gods and celebrate Hindu festivals such as Holi and Diwali. They invoke Hindu gods, particularly Krishna, to seek blessings before beginning their recitals. The Langas truly reflect the secular and all inclusive facets of Indian cultural traditions.

They dazzled the students and faculty alike with their hypnotic mix of rhythm and melody. Sh Anwar Khan led the group and was the main singer. Adding to the vocals were Hussain Khan (also on Harmonium) and Aslam Khan. Shabir Khan played dholak while Habib Khan played the sindhi sarangi, one of the traditional instruments used by Langa musicians. The star of the day was Pathan Khan who played the khartal (wooden clappers). Made of Sheesham wood, khartal adds a lot of drama to the Langa music and it was mesmerizing to watch Pathan Khan in action. ‘Khar’ means hand and ‘tal’ means rhythm and the performer physically embodied the rhythm of this music in his hands.

The performers left the audience enthralled and yearning for more. The response of the audience has inspired and motivated the college chapter of Spic Macay to discover and showcase more of our illustrious heritage in the times to come.

The Placement Cell, PGDAV College serves as an interface between the students and the corporate world. The motto of the cell, “Your Ambition, Our Aim”, is the foundation for this society. Besides bringing in top-notch companies for placements

Page 39: Academic Achievements of Faculty members

39

and internships, the Placement Cell also organizes personality development workshops, resume building sessions, career guidance seminars and mock GD/PI sessions to ensure our primary focus of providing a helping hand to the students in the initial stages of stepping into the corporate world. We are currently ranked 10th among Placement Cells in Delhi University (As per an independent survey by DU Assassins).

We at The Placement Cell make all efforts to ensure that the HR teams of the invited companies make the recruitment at our college a part of their yearly calendar, thereby creating a legacy.

The session kicked off with a propitious workshop organised in association with Barclays Connect with Work programme. The leading HRs of the company visited our college bi-monthly to personally guide and mentor the students in their career path. Under this, 60 students were made to visit the Barclays office and get an overview of the corporate sector. A full-day grooming session was organised in collaboration with Global Talent Track, just before the onset of the placement session. To help improve the Resumes, a Resume Building workshop was conducted by the CEO of Perspectico. To update the students with the traditional as well as modern professional courses available across the world, a talk was organised by Zell Education.

Placements, the primary objective of the team, saw a two-fold increase in the number of students placed with 232 being the count till February. PGDAV students grabbed placements in various reputable companies in varied profiles, including Assurance, Finance, Human Resource, Marketing, Research, Content Development, Technical and Sales. Some of the companies we are proud to have had on-board are McKinsey & Co., EY GDS, Deloitte, PwC, S&P Global, TresVista, FIS Global, Cvent, Wipro and Genpact. Our campus placements experienced a noteworthy increase in the average pay package offered from 3.05 LPA in 2017-18 to 4.6 LPA in 2018-19 with the highest package being 12.5 LPA.

To help students apply their theoretical knowledge in the practical world, we strived to invite companies for internship programmes. We had more than 110 companies offering internships with a stipend up to 17,000. Some of the leading internship programmes we had this year were EY GDS, I-PAC, Yes Foundation, Zee Media, Urban Clap, Zomato, NIIT and Financial doctors. We even had few Live Projects this year, namely Decode, Oyster and Evolve.

The Placement Cell recently hosted the Third edition of Converge - The Annual Summer Internship fair on 6th of March. It is a flagship event which serves as a common platform for internship seekers as well as potential recruiters across Delhi-NCR. This time we welcomed 38 companies, including Bajaj Capital, Times of India, LIC, Outlook, RedCarpet and Sharekhan offering stipend as high as 30,000. To ensure that no field goes unnoticed, 40+ profiles were offered in the fair including out of the box profiles like machine learning, photography, blog writing, artificial intelligence, journalism and healthcare. The event gathered 1450 registrations and a crowd of 500 students, which had a mix pool from across the states, including Chandigarh and Kurukshetra University.

The Placement Cell encountered a higher level of placements in the year 2018-19 by virtue of an unparalleled team we had of students as well as the teachers. The team worked conscientiously throughout the session with zeal and unmatchable enthusiasm. We, at the Placement Cell of PGDAV College, believe it to be a stepping stone on the journey towards greater success.

This academic year, NESA welcomed the new students in a warm and intimate event held on 1st October 2018. The new Executive Members of NESA organized the Freshers’ Welcome Programme where the Principal and members of the faculty advised and encouraged the new as well as senior students to make full use of the College and the city to achieve their dreams. The freshers put on an interesting display of talent during the programme, much to the delight of both teachers and students.

On 19th February 2019, NESA organized an academic lecture for the first time. The speaker for the lecture was Prof. Yaruingam Awungshi, Department of African Studies, Delhi University. He spoke on the topic “Citizenship (Amendment)

Page 42: Academic Achievements of Faculty members

Bill 2016”, an issue of broad and current interest especially to the residents of the North-East. Prof. Awungshi gave a deep and equitable insight into the contentious Bill and answered students’ queries on the nuances of the arguments in favour of and against certain tenets of proposed amendments to the Bill.

NESA also successfully organized its annual cultural extravaganza called HERITAGE. The highlight of the second cultural fest was a talk by Dr. Chubamenla Jamir, Asst. Professor, Department of Energy and Environment, TERI University. She spoke on the topic “The UN Sustainable Development Goals: Implications for North East India”. In her hour-long lecture, Dr. Jamir threw light on the alarming rate of environmental damage done to the region and its adverse effect on one of the most economically disadvantaged areas of the country. Her meticulously collected data proved the point that not only the North-East but the whole country must immediately engage in conscious decisions to sustain development, or else the consequences are being borne by the present generation itself. She exhorted the student body to spread awareness and to practice even the most simple of conservation methods starting from their immediate environment. Besides Dr. Jamir’s invigorating lecture, cultural dances and songs captivated the audience.

Solo singing and cultural dance competitions were held in the second session of HERITAGE. Student participation from various colleges across the University bears testimony not only to the success of the fest but also to the immense talent pool in the students from North-east across the University.

N.S.S. P.G.D.A.V. is widely acknowledged for the great strides it has made in the past year. A team of 39 students have been working tirelessly throughout the year to provide free education to children of nearby slum areas and we plan to make this a permanent project of our N.S.S. unit. Events such as blood donation camps, NSS Day, Surgical Strike day, Kerala flood donation drive were organised in the college campus and they all witnessed a very encouraging participation of students and teachers, who came forward to donate andto be a part of this beautiful journey. Various rallies, surveys, workshops, cleanliness drives and donation desks have been organised both in the College premises as well as the slums that we have adopted. Students with handmade posters and slogans which resonated with their hearts carried out successful rallies in these slums to sanitize people about the importance of healthy living conditions. The rural development department of NSS at PGDAV College has been toiling really hard, bringing up new ideas and initiatives for the betterment of life standards in slum areas. Another jewel of an initiative, PWD department of N.S.S. P.G.D.A.V., has an assigned team of children who take special care of the differently abled students of the college.
