ABSTRACT
This final project is about implementation of pictures in teaching present continuous tense at the
second semester of eleventh grade at SMA N 14 Bandar Lampung. In this final project the
writer implements pictures at eleventh grade students of SMA N 14 Bandar Lampung. Based on
the preliminary research that was conducted while doing interview the English Teacher in
SMAA N 14 Bandar Lampung, who is he teaching there (Mr. YonathanEko, S.pd). He said that
students of IX IPS I did not understand about grammar and present continuous tense
especially.The Objectives of the Research are to know the implementation of picture in teaching
present continuous tense through picture, To identify the problems faced by the teacher and
students in teaching learning present continuous tense through pictures, And to find out the
solutions of the students problems in learning present continuous tense through describing pictures.
The writer employed descriptive qualitative method. The population of this research was
students at the eleventh class of SMA N 14 Bandar Lampung.In this research writer used the
purposing sampling. The sample of this research was class XI IPS 1.So the sample was 34
students from 269 students. The Data collecting technique were observation, interview,
questionnaire, and Documentation. Data analysiswere Data Reduction, display data, and
Verification.
The problems faced by the teacher: Teachers rarely speak in English in the classroom, Teacher
looked to lack the time to all students making the sentences of present continuous tense, and teacher had difficulties to explaining to the students about activity of the picture because all of
students difficulties to understand the picture and they were poor vocabulary.Solutionfor the
teacher: An English teacher has a brilliant idea to offset the habits of Indonesian and English, It
is to invite students to attend tutoring English at home FREE Mr / Mrs English teacher, and One
of the might overcome powerful Indonesian with English is to force students that speak English in regions around the particular school. problems faced by the students were: Students
are poor in present continuous tense practice, Students were poor in vocabulary mastery, and
Students were still confused about tobe. the solution for the students: the teacher must give
home work to the students, so that they are not poor in present continuous tense practice, Provide
additional vocabulary that will be useful for everyday conversation in students and introduce
students to the Novel or the teen magazines in English in order for them to be fond of reading
and gain a lot of additional vocabulary of the magazines, andalways emphasize the function of
tobe and how to use it correctly in the sentences. The result of research shows that teaching
present continuous tense through picture at the second semester of eleventh grade students at
SMA N 14 Bandar Lampung was success. So, picture can be used in teaching learning procces.
Students felt confident and exciting when teacher asked them to make sentences of Present
continuous tense correctly.
