Volunteer Training

Welcome!

• Hoshicon started as a one-day event at UNCC attracting a few hundred attendees. It quickly grew to a three-day event with around 4,000 attendees.

• Currently Hoshicon has over 50 staffers

Our Mantra

• Our goal is to create the best experience we can for our attendees

• Hoshicon is for the attendees

Code of Conduct• Remember that Hoshicon is for the attendees. Remain courteous and

patient.

• Staff and volunteers are a team — defer to staff in times of crisis

• Be on your best behaviour! You are a reflection of our convention!

• Do not do anything that you wouldn’t want a volunteer of a convention you were attending to do.

• Please eat, sleep, drink and shower.

• Do not invite your friends to con ops and keep all areas clean.

• Do not consume alcohol while on duty.

How to Identify Staff• All on-duty staff members are required to wear Hoshicon staff t-

shirts (mock-up coming soon)

• Staff members are also given a different badge than regular attendees (staff and volunteer badges are jumbo-sized!)

• Executive staff may be wearing business casual clothes

• Volunteer members may also be given yellow vests but do not get t-shirts

• Staff members and select volunteers will have walkie-talkies/radios!

Your First Shift• Make sure you have your regular attendee badge! (Registration will give you

priority if the line is long! Tell them that you are a volunteer.)

• Head to con ops on the second floor of the hotel.

• Locate a volunteer staff member and sign in!

• Trade in your attendee badge for a volunteer badge.

• Information will given to you on where to head!

• When your scheduled shift is over, head back to con ops to sign out and get back your attendee badge.

• Always sign in and out!
