About Us

Alcheringa is the annual cultural festival of Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati. Started in 1996 by bunch of students of IIT Guwahati, Alcheringa has now become one of the biggest college level events in Asia. As spring comes forth, the North-East sees itself engulfed by lush green beauty that sprawls onward to horizon with the nature breathing new life into the world budding flowers decorating the surreal landscape, it wouldn’t be far-fetched to say paradise has descended upon Earth. Amidst this fantasy lies “Alcheringa” the annual cultural extravaganza of IIT Guwahati. The name derives from the Australian language, literally translating to ‘eternal dreamtime’ and hence befitting the moment in every sense of word. Those who have heard it, seen it and lived it can tell you that it is nothing short of visual delicacy, a gourmet by the finest chefs served to you with the best seasoning there to offer. Spread over 3 days and 4 nights, Alcheringa attracts people from all over the country with its spectacular events and competitions. At Alcheringa, we promise you nothing but the best 4 days of your lifetime.

Battle with 400+ colleges across India, over 80+ events, for the Ultimate honor to become the Ultimate Champion, the chance to take home the glory of being Alcheringa’s General Champion….

Pre-festival:

1. Starting from the first week of November, in every 2 weeks, an online event will be conducted which will be released from our Facebook Page.

2. The entries will be taken in the 1st week only. 3. In the 2nd week, the result will be declared through our Facebook

Page. 4. You have to register for the event on www.alcheringa.in/

registrations in General Championship Module. 5. You can see you score through General Championship Page at

www.alcheringa.in/gc . 6. Every online event will carry 50 bounties. 7. Only winner will be declared, there is no runner-up position.

During festival:

2. Based on their performance during festival teams are awarded bounties, a final leader board will be created based on the bounties earned:

Haute Couture: Fashion Designing Competition GC Bounties: 400

Ever felt so thunder seeing someone so immaculately dressed that you run out of cheers and words. Haute Couture, where the most glamorous people show off their skills as they walk the ramp, a fashion show evoking all those creative peeps to put on their thinking caps and come out with the most innovative theme-based fashion show.

RULES: 1. Every team has to submit a design of dress of their any previous

performance or you can also submit the link to performance. 2. The entries are submitted while registering for the event at

www.alcheringa.in/registrations . 3. Minimum number of models per team is 6. 4. Minimum age limit is 16 years. 5. Teams can take help from professional designers, choreographers,

and makeup artists. Only 1 choreographer, make-up artist and maximum of 4 designer will be accepted from one team. These professionals will be considered as a part of team and will be eligible for the Best Choreographer, The Best Makeup Artist and the Best Designer Award.

6. Choreographers, makeup artists, designers can also be ramp models.

7. Every team will be given 5 minutes for each round. 8. On exceeding the time limit, negative points will be awarded. 9. The teams are responsible for their own music and sequence. 10. Music is to be submitted in a format compatible with Windows

supervise the lighting. Otherwise it will be up to the lights group. 12. Water, Fire and animals in any form will not be allowed on the

stage or on the ramp. 13. Vulgarity in any form will not be allowed in the competition. If

the team feels any stunt could be termed as vulgar, it should speak to organiser before performing it on the stage.

14. Organisers reserve the right to cancel any round and disqualify teams who do not adhere to the rules.

15. The decision of the organisers will be the final one. 16. Only selected teams will move to the final round. 17. Rules might undergo slight changes depending on the situation. 18. Please refer to our website for the updated rules.

PRELIMS THEME VINTAGE: Fashion all around the world in mid 20th century. Base your design on this theme and display the quality of style and grace. Use your creativity and imagination to make the best out of this theme. Not following the theme immediately disqualifies the team.

FINALS THEME This round is theme-less. That is to say, teams can decide their own themes that they will not declare beforehand. After their performance, they can declare it, and then judges may decide the quality of the performance. Alternatively, the teams can go without a theme and say so after they have performed.

Rock-O-Phonix: Rock Band Competition

As the shredding of the guitars and the beating of the drums picks up steam, heads bang along to the music. A highlight of the festival and an emblem of the talent suffused in the many faces in the crowd, this is one event to hold your breath for. Rock-O-Phonix, the holy grail of rock! The winner takes all...!

RULES: 1. Entry restricted to participants qualified through City Elimination

Only. 2. Interested teams can contact the Alcheringa Team/Organisers

before or during the fest to enquire the availability of slots. 3. Registrations are done at www.alcheringa.in/rockophonix . 4. A total of 25 teams will come to Alcheringa for the pre-finals. 5. Travel reimbursement would be provided as per travel

reimbursement policy. 6. Bands need to carry their own instruments. Only a standard drum

set without double base peddle would be provided. 7. Explicit or offensive lyrics/gestures guarantee immediate expulsion

from the stage. 8. Booze/ drugs/ smoke are strictly not allowed in campus. 9. Decision of judges will be final and binding.

PRE-FINALS 1. Each band will have 30 minutes on stage including sound check.

They will have to leave the stage after 30 minutes or penalty shall be imposed.

2. Marking scheme is subject to judges.

FINALS 1. 6 bands would be selected for finals. 2. They would be allocated 45 minutes for performance including

sound check. 3. Finalists need to have at least one original composition of

minimum duration of 3 minutes.

Mr & Ms Alcheringa: Personality Contest GC Bounties: 200

One of the most anticipated events of the year, brings you one of its own kind personality competition. Are you up for the challenge? Alcheringa awaits to accolade its next Mr Alcheringa and Ms Alcheringa...!!

RULES: 1. Registrations are done through www.alcheringa.in/registrations . 2. Every participant has to fill the questionnaire whose link will be




sent to the email address of the participant. 3. Minimum age limit for the competition is 16 years. 4. Registration form must be completely filled. 5. The decision of the organisers will be considered final and

binding in all matters. 6. Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of their replies to the

questionnaire, for the Prelims. 7. Requirements of any sort must be informed well before-hand for

both Prelims and Finals. 8. Any music or video file is to be submitted well in advance by

sending it to [email protected]. The format of the file name should be ParticipantName_Mr&MsAlcher and subject mail should be “Entry for Mr&MsAlcher”.

9. Addition or Removal of any round on both the days can be done by the organisers. The decision of the organisers will be considered final and binding in all matters.

Crossfade: DJ Competition

“Music is How we speak without ever moving our Lips.” The masters of the mood, the creators of the music meet up on a stage to put on a show like no one else! Crossfade! The Battle of DJ’s... Let the Music Speak!!

RULES: 1. Registrations are done online at www.alcheringa.in/registrations .

DJs need to upload two audio clips on an online portal in mp3 format. In the uploaded audio there must be the voice of DJ somewhere which should not disturb rhythm of the clip. Uploaded audio clips are to be of minimum 5 and maximum 7 minutes of duration.

2. REMIXES ARE NOT ALLOWED. 3. A total of 20 DJs are to be selected for Pre-finals that would

perform live at Alcheringa 2018. 4. DJ’s need to carry their own music CDs as per choice. 5. The mix should contain at least three genres of music. For ex.

Rock, Hip-Hop/Rap, House, etc. 6. Decision of the organisers will be final and binding in all

matters. 7. Stick to the languages that most people know (English, Hindi and

Punjabi), though a little local mix would be entertained.

PRE-FINALS 1. A total of 14 minutes is to be provided for performance. 10

minutes for live mixing and 4 minutes for sound setting. Exceeding time limit would result in penalty.




2. Marking scheme is subjected to judges only. 3. DJs will be provided with the mixers. 4. DJs found using pre-looped tracks/ pre-extended mixes/ pre-cued

tracks/ pre-pitched tracks will be disqualified.

FINALS 1. A total of 5 DJs would be selected for the final round. 2. All the finalists would be given 24 minutes which includes 10

minutes for performing stunts portraying his/her DJ’ing skills, 10 minutes for live mixing and 4 minutes for sound check. Exceeding time limit would result in penalty.

3. DJs found using pre-looped tracks/ pre-extended mixes/ pre-cued tracks/ pre-pitched tracks will be disqualified.

Roadiez: MTV Roadies GC Bounties: 100

The battle ground is ready, the daggers are drawn and the gang leaders are on a hunt for their warriors. The real test of guts and patience. Be creative, Be brave! Prove yourself superior to win the ultimate title. Are you a ROADIE? Based on the hit TV reality show MTV Roadies, Alcheringa brings to you the real test of guts and patience. Your illusions about yourself will be put to test and who emerges victorious, will be the one who can do it all, no matter what the test demands.

Registrations are done through www.alcheringa.in/registrations . Every participant has to fill the questionnaire whose link will be sent to the email address of the participant.




The game is divided into three basic stages.

QUALIFICATION All candidates are screened on the basis of their answers to the questionnaire which is available on our website (www.alcheringa.in/ registrations) and only 20 participants qualify for the next round.

JUSTIFICATION The selected candidates are asked to perform a series of challenging tasks to identify who can walk the talk.

FINALSTen candidates selected from the previous rounds are tested for personality and appeal, as the area filled with people heckle every move you make making sure that only the worthy are deemed as victors. Only the real roadie survives this round.

PRECAUTIONS: 1. Physical hurting among the participants will lead to

disqualification. 2. Multiple entries will not be entertained. Such applicants will be

PERFORMING ARTS

Theatrix: Stage Play Competition GC Bounties: 400

The plethora of expressions, diversity of unimaginable characters, red of the blood all to impress you! Actors from the region will enliven the stage and perform their hearts out to stand victorious in this tough clash of theatre-acting. Welcome to the Stage play competition!

RULES: 1. Teams selected through online prelims will come at Alcheringa. 2. Teams has to register at www.alcheringa.in/registrations . Teams

has to upload a link of their previous performance. 3. The performance must be in Hindi, English or Assamese. 4. The minimum age limit for this competition is 12 years. 5. Usage of fire/water/smoke is not allowed. 6. The performance can also be a musical drama. 7. Two standing microphones, two collar microphones and four

ground microphones will be provided to each team for the performance.

8. Participants must bring their own laptops for sound effects. For any music track or video file, team has to submit it by sending a mail to [email protected] .

9. Live music is also allowed. All required instruments and props must be brought by the team itself. Only two(lights/sound) technicians per team will be allowed.

10.Props are allowed. No props other than chairs and table can be expected from organisers. All the requests for the same must be made a week before prior the performance.

11. Issues like crossing time limits, using abusive language, or





vulgarity will lead to negative marking and it will be completely over judge’s discretion.

PRE-FINALS 1. Time limit for prelims is 20 minutes from curtain to curtain

(including setting/clearance). A part of the finals will be performed in the prelims.

2. 5 teams will qualify for prelims.

FINALS Time limit (curtain to curtain) for the finals is 50 minutes.

JUDGING CRITERIA: 1. Performance in acting - Dialogue delivery, Expressions, Body

movements. 2. Presentation encompassing costumes, music, props & use of stage. 3. Successfully depicting the plot or theme. 4. Originality.

Halla Bol: Street Play Competition GC Bounties: 300

The eloping beats of nagadas and dholkis filling the atmosphere with hysterical enthusiasm are sure to give one the dose of live action and stunts amidst a live crowd. The thunderous performances have questions that need to be answered, and answers that will leave you baffled. Halla Bol (Nukkad Natak), a form of theatre which aims at spreading social awareness with style!



RULES: 1. Entry Restricted to participants qualified through City Eliminations

Only. 2. Interested teams can contact the Alcheringa Team/Organisers

before or during the fest to enquire the availability of slots. 3. Teams has to register at www.alcheringa.in/registrations . 4. Number of members in a team must not be less than 6. 5. Time limit for the performance is 20 minutes. 6. Usage of fire/ water/ smoke/ gulaal is not allowed. Musical

instruments are allowed. 7. The performance must only be in Hindi, English or Assamese. 8. The minimum age limit for this competition is 12 years. 9. Issues like crossing the time limits, using abusive language, or

vulgarity will lead to negative marking and it will be completely over judge’s discretion.

JUDGING CRITERIA: 1. Performance in acting - Dialogue delivery, Expressions, Body

movements. 2. Presentation encompassing costumes, music, props and use of

field. 3. Successfully depicting the plot or theme. 4. Originality.

Ad Mad: Advertisement Making Competition GC Bounties: 200

Take an everyday product and find a way to advertise it in an unconventional way i.e. the hero of the plot should be the way you pitch your product!




RULES: 1. Teams can choose any daily-use product of their choice. 2. The performance must only be in Hindi or English. 3. Time limit for each performance is 5 minutes. 4. It is a group event. However, no more than 6 people should be on

the stage at any time. 5. The act should consist of speaking for at least 70% of the time

spent on the stage. 6. Contestants must have their own needed equipment, if required. 7. The minimum age limit for this is 12 years. 8. Any special requirements or technical help must be conveyed at

least one week prior to the event. 9. Obscenity of any kind or inappropriate content will lead to

immediate disqualification. 10. Registrations are done at www.alcheringa.in/registrations .

JUDGING CRITERIA: 1. Originality and Effectiveness of Idea. 2. Speaking Skills. 3. Content and Creativity.

NOTE: The object of this event is NOT to create a comic act using a “prop”. It is in fact to “sell/market” an everyday item in a unique, original and convincing way.

Alcher Got Talent: Multi Talent Solo Competition GC Bounties: 200

“The entire world’s a stage”, they say. For the people who believe this, for the people with passion and obsession, we have the right stage for you! Do you have a flair towards the




extraordinary? Be it comedy, mimicry, acting, magic or any quirky thing you are passionately curious about, we have the stage ready for you! Give the crowd and the judges the time of their lives.

RULES: NOTE: No dancing, singing or any art already existing in the form of other events in the fest is allowed. You may contact the team in case of any suspicion.

1. Organizers have full authority to disqualify the participation in case of any discrepancy.

2. Contestants may perform either alone or as part of a group. 3. Registrations are done at www.alcheringa.in/registrations . 4. Time limit is 5minutes (Performance) + 1 minute (setting/

clearance). 5. Contestants must have their own needed equipment, if required. 6. The minimum age limit for this is 12 years. 7. Any special requirements or technical help must be conveyed at

least one week prior to the event. 8. Obscenity of any kind or inappropriate content will lead to

immediate disqualification. 9. Rules are subjected to change as per requirement. 10. Alcheringa team holds the right to change the rules if necessary. 11. The decision of the judges will be final and binding in all cases. 12. Usage of fire/water/smoke is not allowed.




ABCD:Any Body

Can Dance

“It is with your feet that you move... but it is with your heart that you dance. To dance is to be out of yourself- larger, more

beautiful and more powerful.”



Electric Heels: Freestyle Group Dance Competition GC Bounties: 400

“Dance is a way to find yourself and lose yourself at the same time.” A signature event of Alcheringa, Electric heels is a group dance competition, featuring the most talented crews across the nation. Your team, your grooves, your beats, our arena. Are you up for the challenge?

RULES: 1. Entry Restricted to participants qualified through City Eliminations.

Interested teams can contact the Alcheringa Team/Organisers before or during the fest to enquire the availability of slots. Registrations are done at www.alcheringa.in/registrations .

2. Teams consist of a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 25 members. 3. A minimum of 5 and a maximum of 16 members must be present

on the stage at any given moment. 4. The minimum age limit for this competition is 12 years. 5. Music for the pre-finals round must be submitted by sending it to

[email protected] before the performance. File name should have the format E.g.: “TeamName_ElectricHeels.mp3” with subject of mail as “Entry for Electric Heels”.

6. Any pre-recorded or live music can be used for the performance. 7. The decision taken by the organisers is final and binding for the

performers. Any kind of misbehaviour would result in direct disqualification.

8. Follow the general guidelines provided at the end of the module.

PRE-FINALS 1. In the prelims, the participants are required to give a short





performance that should not exceed 3 minutes. 2. Props are allowed, but they do not fetch you any points in this

round.

FINALS 1. The top 5 teams will be selected for the finals, where they have to

showcase a performance of their choice. 2. Performance duration in this round should not exceed 8 minutes. 3. Innovations such as props fetch extra points in this round.

JUDGING CRITERIA 1. Choreography - 40 % 2. Synchronisation - 15 % 3. Energy - 15% 4. Transitions and stage formation - 10% 5. Variety in dance style - 10% 6. Confidence and Projection - 10%

Step Up: Street Dance Competition. GC Bounties: 300

Why fight when you can dance? Introducing the most exhilarating, vigorous and effervescent face-off you can imagine! The mean and tough streets are unforgiving. Bring out your game face and show us what you got! Presenting Step Up, Dance face-off!

RULES: Entry Restricted to participants qualified through City Eliminations. Interested teams can contact the Alcheringa Team/Organisers before



or during the fest to enquire the availability of slots. Registrations are done at www.alcheringa.in/registrations . 1. It will be a dance face-off between two teams. 2. It will be an open – air event. 4. The team must consist of a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 8

members. 5. The minimum age limit for this competition is 12 years. 6. The dance style should be primarily a blend of Hip-Hop, Free

styling, break dance, Popping, Locking, B-Boying, Tutting, Waving, Threading and other funky dance styles.

7. The timer for a crew starts at the very moment when the dancer steps into the performing area.

8. The music for the performance will be provided on the spot. 9. The dimensions of the stage/performance area will be uploaded a

month before the festival. 10. The decision taken by the organisers is final and binding for the

PRE-FINALS 1. It is a knock-out based event. The team that wins a round goes to

the next level. 2. Teams alternatively take turns to showcase their skills, either

through individual or group performance. 3. Each turn lasts for a minute and each team gets 2 such turns. 4. A minimum of 1 and a maximum of 2 props are to be used by the

teams during their performance.

FINALS 1. A coin toss decides which team goes first. 2. The teams will be given 4 turns alternatively, each of 1 minute in




the semi-final and the final round.

Dancing Duo: Duet Dance Competition. GC Bounties: 200

We dance for laughter, we dance for tears, we dance for madness, we dance for fears, we dance for hopes, we dance for screams, we are the dancers, we create the dreams. Alcheringa gives you the chance to create these dreams with your partner.

RULES: 1. The competition takes place in two rounds, the prelims and the

finals. Any pre-recorded or live music can be used for the performance.

2. Music for the prelims must be submitted by mailing it to [email protected] before the performance and the names of the audio files should be same as the name of participants.

3. Minimum age limit for this competition is 12 years. 4. Registrations are done at www.alcheringa.in/registrations .

PRELIMS 1. Each team of 2 has to perform on a self-chosen song. 2. Team members can be girls, boys or mix. 3. The time limit is a minimum of 3 minutes and a maximum of 4

minutes. 4. Props won’t be a part of judging criterion.

FINALS 1. 8 teams will qualify to compete in the finals. 2. Before the performance the team has to declare the form of dance

they are going to perform.





3. Any deviation from the dance form will result in negative marking.

“Every day brings a chance for you to draw in a breath, kick off your shoes and dance”. Who will be the one? The champion? The one who think he can dance!

1. Creativity and Innovation will fetch extra points. If a team wishes to use the lighting system during their performance, one of the team members can supervise the same during the team’s performance. However, it would be taken care by the light and sound group of the organising team.

2. Props are supposed to be arranged by the participants themselves. (Prop is anything not worn on the body as part of costume eg. bat, stick, hat and/or every piece of costume that is removed during the act).

3. Props Considered hazardous or requiring electricity (eg. fire, fog devices, knives etc.) are not allowed. Throwing Confetti, Chalk Powder, Glitter on the performance area can attract penalty, hence is discouraged.

4. Music is to be submitted to the organiser beforehand by sending it to [email protected] . The audio format must be compatible with Windows media player, preferably mp3 format.

5. The name of the submitted audio file should have the format “TeamName_EventName.mp3” with a subject of mail being “Entry for ‘Event Name’”.

6. Marks will be deducted for exceeding the time limit. One of the team members must sit with the technician and the computer operator.

7. Clearing the stage within the maximum time limit is the responsibility of the team.

8. The maximum time means time taken from stage-in to stage-out. The dance floor area must be restored to previous state before the starting of the next performance.

9. Vulgarity of any form will not be tolerated. So if a team feels that any act could be termed as vulgar, it is best suggested to discuss it to the event organiser at least an hour before performing on the




stage. 10. The organisers reserve the right to change/modify rules, but the

change will be intimated to the participants.

FINALS 1. The 7 qualified teams will be invited to Alcheringa 2018 and will

performance and not just on the instrumental performance. 3. Mikes, one acoustic guitar and a keyboard will be provided. 4. Participants must confirm availability of the instruments in

advance with the event organisers. 5. A drum set will not be provided by Alcheringa. Participants are

encouraged to use alternate percussion instruments. 6. Participation can be teams of minimum 3 and maximum 5

PRELIMS 1. This round involves online submission. A band will have to

song must only be in Hindi or English. 2. No instrument is allowed. 3. Participants are not allowed to use any kind of pre-recorded music

for this round. 4. Maximum performance time for this round is 3 minutes. 5. Top 10 candidates from this round will qualify for the finals. 6. Special wild-card entries will be chosen from different parts of the

fest so be on a look out, you might just land a direct entry into the finals.


FINALS 1. For this round, the contestants have to choose and prepare a song

beforehand from the list of songs that will be uploaded on our website (www.alcheringa.in) well in advance.

2. The selected candidates will perform their selected song along with pre-recorded music, which will be provided to them by the organisers.

Jug Blowers: Online Non-Conventional Music Competition Music is an art, painted on canvas of silence! If your music

is not limited to the conventional musical instruments, this

event is for you!

RULES: 1. Participants/teams are supposed to perform using ordinary objects,

necessarily different from music instruments. These homemade instruments can be ordinary objects adapted to or modified for making sound, like the washtub bass, washboard, spoons, bones, stovepipe or comb and tissue paper.

5 on 5 Football: GC Bounties: 300 This shorter version of Football is your shot at glory and a chance for you to vindicate your love for the game. Held in one of the football hotspots of the country, this 5-on-5 competition will put your mettle and skills to test unlike any other. Come, play your best shot!

RULES: 1. A total of 64 teams for Boys will be registered. 2. Minimum age limit is 15 years. 3. Online registrations are advised. Offline registration is subject to

availability and will be strictly based on “First Come First Serve” basis. Registrations are done at www.alcheringa.in/registrations .

4. Participants may register as teams of a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 7 members.

5. Only 5 players per team (including the goalkeeper) will be allowed to play at a time.

6. Matches will constitute of two halves of 10 minutes, each with a 4-minute break in between. However, a match will be over then and there if a team manages to get a 3-goal lead over the opponent.

7. In case of a tie, teams will play sudden death “golden goal” in extra time to determine the winner over 2 halves of 4 minutes each. A draw at the end of Extra Time will be decided by a Penalty Shootout.

8. The Off-side rule will ‘NOT’ be followed. 9. Players will not be allowed to play barefoot. Use of normal sport

shoes or football studs is allowed. We also encourage you to get




your own shin guards, which are of prime importance for your safety.

10. Rolling Substitutions will be allowed. 11. No player can register with more than one team during the entire

tournament. Also teams once knocked out will not be registered again.

12. The dimensions of the field will be 91.4m x 55m. 13. Possession of any sharp or metal object that can cause any injury

during the play will directly lead to the disqualification of the team.

14. The decision of the Match Referees will be binding on all issues, and will not be subject to any post match reviews.

15. All other rules will essentially be followed according to FIFA standards.

16. The tournament director reserves the right to alter the rules and/or schedule in case of unforeseen circumstances.

standard (749–780 mm/29.5–30.7 in) court will be used for the matches.

2. The game is a single period of 10 minutes with sudden death at 21 points. The winner is the first team to score 21 or the team with the highest score at the end of the 10 minutes.

RULES FOR WOMEN: 1. The game is played on a half-court, with one basket. A size 6




standard (724–754 mm/28.5–29.7 in) court will be used for the matches.

2. The game is a single period of 8 minutes with sudden death at 15 points. The winner is the first team to score 15 or the team with the highest score at the end of the 8 minutes.

8. After a made basket or free throw, play restarts with a player from the non-scoring team taking the ball directly under the basket and

9. Each team is allowed one timeout (The officials may still stop the game in case of player injury or other dangerous situations). Substitution is allowed only during a dead-ball situation. Individual personal foul counts are not kept.

10. In other words, players cannot be disqualified on the basis of personal fouls. However, a player who commits two unsportsmanlike fouls is disqualified. Fouls during the act of shooting inside the arc are awarded 1 free throw, whilst fouls during the act of shooting behind the arc are awarded 2 free throws. Overview: Have you ever seen politicians squabble on TV, and thought to yourself, "I could do a much better job, if only I had this kind of power”? IITG MUN gives you the chance to see for yourself.

The United Nations Organisation (UNO/UN) is an international body designed to facilitate dialogue between nations. The topics under deliberation vary widely; from managing the economy to preventing war, from empowering women to protecting the environment - essentially, any issue that can be mitigated or settled by a governmental policy. The UN comprises of multiple committees, each geared towards addressing a certain variety of issues; for example, The United Nations Security Council deals with threats to international peace. Each committee has a list of member nations, and each nation on the list is invited to send one representative, called a delegate, to express the views of his or her nation within that committee.

The MUN, or the Model United Nations, is a simulation of the actual UN. The participants pretend to represent a nation, and come to together to discuss the very same issues being debated upon in the UN. This gives a normal person the opportunity to know what’s its like to stand for something more than himself/herself, and to experience the complicated the verbal dance and that politicians and delegates take part in every day. The MUN is a conclave for ideation by the fresh minds of our nation, to brainstorm solutions to problems plaguing our world. Participants work through the tenuous relationships between nations as they deliberate towards a resolution – and they get to look nice in a suit and tie while they do it!

Beg Borrow Steal: You will need every ounce of your guile, cunning and brilliance to gather the most outlandish objects from a list of items given to you. Weirder the find, worthier the reward. Beware the clock is your adversary as much as the other teams.

Gaming Arena: In this event we have something for our sports lovers, mixture of desi and videsi.



Rap Battle: 1. On the spot registration where participants will be selected one by one among the crowd on the basis of their creativity & spontaneity. 2. The selected participants will rap (English or Hindi & definitely popular). 3. The winner will be selected on the votes of audience. 4. All are required to cooperate with the coordinator and organisers of the event.

NOTE: There is no need of registration for Street Extravaganza events.

RULES: 1. Registrations are done at www.alcheringa.in/registrations . 2. Team size is 2. 3. Participants are expected to carry a pen for the competition. 4. Use of unfair means is prohibited and shall lead to

disqualification. 5. Use of mobile phones or any such electronic device is strictly not

allowed. 6. The decision of quizmaster shall be final and binding. 7. Rounds: Written eliminations followed by on-stage finals.

NOTE: Quiz Modules are subject to change.




GENERAL GUIDELINES



HOW TO REACH IIT GUWAHATI CAMPUS?

From Railway Station: 1. We will try to provide you with transportation to IITG campus

provided you have given us adequate details. We will get in contact with you as soon as you reach Guwahati Railway Station.

2. In case we are not able to provide you with transportation, you have the following options- • Green Valley buses (white and green carrying IITG placard),

provided by the institute will ply to and from the city almost every hour and will operate from RBI Bus Stop, a stone’s throw from the railway station. A minimal charge of Rs. 10 will be charged per person.

• Auto rickshaws (@Rs. 150-175) or Sumo (@Rs. 300-350) is another option.

• Ferry services are available from Ferry ghat, Fancy Bazar.

From Airport: 1. We will try to provide you with transportation to the IITG campus

provided you have given us adequate details and your team has at least 25 members.

2. You can hire a pre-paid taxi (@Rs. 475-500) to IIT Guwahati. 3. Inside the campus, get down at the hospitality desk (which will

probably be at DIHING Hostel.

NOTE: 1. Picking up of participants is subject to availability of

transportation facility. 2. For request of transportation facility, participants need to inform

us at least a week in advance by emailing us at [email protected] . Confirmations for the same will be




emailed to you. 3. Transportation will be provided to the teams that have registered

earlier and confirmed their transportation with the transportation team 3 days prior to their travel.

4. Also, participants should inform their status to the Organising Team (contact will be shared later) 1 hour before they reach Guwahati Railway Station.

5. On reaching IIT Guwahati The Hospitality Team will be there to guide you with the procedure to register for the events and accommodation. Some valuable information regarding the same is given below: • Hospitality Control Desk will be set up at Dihing Hostel (in

case of any change in location, you will be informed beforehand). Directions to reach Hospitality Control desk will be there inside the campus (We will be in contact with you as soon as you reach Guwahati).

• ID card is mandatory at the time of registration at the Hospitality Desk. Alcheringa’18 ID cards will be issued to each team member after registration and Alcher ID card will be compulsory for taking part in any event.

• Volunteers will be there to guide you from the Hospitality/ Control Desk to your accommodation.

ACCOMMODATION

1. All accommodation will be done in various hostels of IITG, these are Dorm style common rooms, information of which will be given to you at the time of registration.

2. Accommodation charges applicable per person are as follows: • A minimum of Rs. 700 will be charged for 4 days starting from

1st Feb 2018 - 4th Feb 2018.



• Meals are not included in this charge. • An additional amount of Rs. 200 will be charged per day per

person apart from the above mentioned 4 days. • Blankets are available at the extra cost of Rs. 100 which will be

refunded after the return of undamaged blanket. 3. Accommodation is availed by submitting the total amount at

Control Desk on your arrival. You may asked to deposit a caution money of Rs. 100 which will be reimbursed on the last day only if there is no reported loss to the property of IIT Guwahati.

4. We suggest you to bring your basic requirements (like toothbrush, bed sheet, blankets etc.) for your stay in IITG.

5. Accommodation will be strictly on a first come, first serve basis. 6. Accommodation must be confirmed with the Hospitality Team

beforehand before setting out your journey. In case the number of persons in a team exceeds the number provided to us by you earlier, the extra persons will be accommodated subject to availability. Any change in the number must be brought to the knowledge of Hospitality Team 2-3 days prior to arrival.

7. Alcohol/ Drugs/ Smoking are strictly prohibited inside the campus. Violating above rules will lead to immediate cancellation of accommodation and depending on the severity, fine can also be imposed.

8. On ground of suspicions, your luggage can be checked by authorities.

9. Food arrangements will be done in the hostel’s mess where you will be staying. It will be available on a pay per meal basis. Alternatively, you can eat from food stalls all over the campus or from hostel canteens.



TRAVEL REIMBURSEMENT POLICY

Only students’ participants can avail travel reimbursement with following conditions for Team Size (Two-way reimbursement per person):

16 and above - 50 % 11 to 15 - 40 % 6 to 10 - 30 % 1 to 5 - 25 %

1. Reimbursement will be done on the evening of 4th Feb 2018 at Control Desk.

2. All reimbursements will be made with respect to sleeper class train fare irrespective of the mode of transportation.

3. Teams availing online accommodation will only be considered for reimbursement.

4. If the number of team members’ increases without prior notice reimbursements will be made according to the original size of the team as per our database.

5. For teams traveling through split train journey, first the shortest distance that can be travelled by the team is calculated and the equivalent direct train sleeper class fare is calculated from the Indian railways website and the reimbursement is done accordingly.

6. All participants are required to submit the Xerox copy of their tickets along with their Accommodation Slip in order to avail any reimbursement.



NOTE: 1. Maximum reimbursement per person will be Rs. 500. 2. No reimbursement will be given to team travelling by bus.

Example: If a 7-member team is travelling from Delhi (one-way fare 700), each team member will be given 30% of the two-way fare (i.e. 30% of Rs. 1400 = Rs. 420).

EVENT REGISTRATION

1. All the participants have to register at www.alcheringa.in/registrations .

2. Registration of participant is compulsory inside the registration portal. Kindly ensure all the events in which you wish to participate are mentioned by you in the registration portal.

3. This year no on-spot registrations will be considered. 4. Participation of these events will be purely on the basis of City

Elimination: • Rock-o-Phonix • Step Up • Electric Heels • Halla Bol

5. Participation of following events have to submit an online entry inside the registration portal after general registration, and follow confirmation of the same inside the portal: • Raga High • Unplugged • Crossfade • Mr & Ms Alcher • Roadiez

6. Only registered participants will be allowed to participate. Every participant will be given a unique Alcher ID upon registration from inside the portal which will be used to confirm participation status.





7. Alcher ID is unique for every participant, it is generated upon registration inside the registration portal, Alcher ID will be used to register for events, confirm participation, confirming accommodation and gain entry inside the campus during the festival.
