A HotSpot is any location where Wi-Fi broadband network access is made publicly available through a WLAN. HotSpots are often located in heavily populated places and typically have a short range of access.

HotSpots are often found at restaurants, train stations, airports, libraries, coffee shops, bookstores, fuel stations, department stores, supermarkets and other public places. Many universities and schools have wireless networks in their campus.

Technically speaking, HotSpots consist of one or several wireless access points installed inside buildings and/or adjoining outdoor areas. These APs are typically networked to printers and/or a shared high-speed Internet connection.

Voice telephony has been the main option for providing access to telecommunications in rural areas.

The project of Pampa de Villacuri consisted in bringing rural broadband access services to enterprise customers in that region, in order to accomplish with it, it has been installed a main backhaul link for transporting data and a wireless access system for the end users.

From the main site was deployed a point to point link in the band of 3.5GHz (Netkrom MB-ROMB +3.5GHz module + 28dBi directional dish type antenna) to a repeating site of Telefonica located at Prieto Hills.

In the repeating site there is a Netkrom equipment (ISP-BS350) that serves as the wireless access point from which it is offered the service to the customers of Pampa de Villacuri

Objetive:

Offer Internet and Telephony Service to a whole network of primary and high schools in a rural area called San Clemente .

Use a Base Station in the main node installing an ISP-BS500AH connected to 3 sector panel antennas of 120°and 16dbi gain each one.

The first backhaul was done from Exodus Corp. N.O.C. (Botour) to Gecamine building; it was a point-to-point link in 5GHz frequency. At Gecamine building, the MB-ROMBV4 Dual Radio would use one port to receive the signal from Botour and the other port to retransmit to another location such as the Grand Hotel located at 10km range. This way, two different links were handled from one single unit with excellent results.

The combination of MB-ROMBV4 and the ISP-BS250 working as Base Station s i m p l i f i e d t h e i n s t a l l a t i o n a n d administration of the entire network.

Re d u c e d o p e r a t i n g c o s t s through real-time knowledge of events and statistical analysis.

The solution includes 1 Backhaul link on the Botswana side to extend the network to a remote location.

The initial number of subscribers was forecasted at 600 users residing from Hotels, Golf, University Campus and some corporate clients in demand of a secure and reliable service

There were a total of 4 VSAT connections in different locations. The Harare office and Head Office were both in Zimbabwe. Two office locations in Botswana needed a point to point connection of 5km range.
