About the Institute

Central Institute for Rural Electrification (CIRE) was established at Hyderabad in 1979 underthe aegis of Rural Electrification Corporation Limited (A Government of India Enterprise) tocater to the training and development needs of engineers and managers of Power and EnergySector and other organizations concerned with Power and Energy.

It is located in the institutional area near Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University, AP on theway to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, on National Highway no. 7 leading to Bangalore.The Institute campus is spread over about 14 acres with Administration, Teaching and Hostelblocks.

The Institute has organized 785 training programmes and 16,213 officers from StateElectricity Boards, Power Distribution Companies, Electricity Departments, Rural ElectricCooperatives, Banks, Regulatory Commissions, Power Utilities, Power Companies, RuralDevelopment Agencies etc. participated in various programmes.

Objectives

To design and conduct training programmes in electricity transmission & distribution andencourage in adoption of innovative and cost effective modern technologies.

To organize training programme in both conventional and non-conventional energy areasand also to conduct programmes related to development of techno-managerial efficiency ofpower utilities/industry.

To organize tailor-made programmes suitable to the needs of State Electricity Boards(SEBs), Distribution Companies, Rural Electric Cooperatives and other Power Utilities/PrivatePower Companies.

To associate with other institution and bodies in furtherance of the interests of RuralElectrification (RE) and energy development programmes.

Training for Whom

Personnel from SEBs, Distribution Companies involved in the formulation andimplementation of RE Projects and also O&M Officers of the power supply systems right fromJunior Level to Senior Executives.

Personnel of various cadres from Rural Electric Cooperatives

Officers of other development agencies associated with Rural Energy

Officers of CPSUs, Power Utilities, Manufacturing Industries and Independent PowerProducers.

Training

Keeping in view, the emerging technologies, techno-managerial requirements of diversifiedclientele organizations, and also on the basis of feed back received from clientele organizationsand participants, CIRE prepares Calendar of Training Programmes every year, broadly which hasbeen classified into five categories:

Open Programmes

These programmes are conducted by CIRE, inviting participation from various organizations witha course fee of Rs.6,000/- for 4-day programme per participant and Rs.7,500/- for 5 dayprogramme per participant and so on. These programmes are residential. A service tax andEducation cess of 12.36% is levied over and above course fees.

Sponsored Programmes

The cost of these programmes are substantially borne by sponsoring organizations thereby thereis no course fee chargeable. These are normally non-residential. The programmes sponsored byMinistry of Power, USAID, Department of Personnel and Training, MNES etc. come under thiscategory..

Outstation Programmes

Tailor made programmes are designed to suit the requirements of clientele organizations and areorganized at a place of clients choice. By and large, these programmes are planned whenever agroup of 15-25 Officers from the clientele organization have to be trained. The lumpsum coursefee for the programmes will be decided depending on the venue, number of participants and otherrelated aspects. These programmes are not included in annual calendar. Similar programmeswere organized for KPTCL, Pondicherry Electricity Department, Andaman & NicobarAdministration, etc., to mention a few.

Special Programmes:

CIRE also organizes special programmes on topics selected by clientele organizations and at atime convenient to them for a minimum of 20 participants. The programmes can be conductedeither at CIRE campus with substantial reduction in the course fee or at a place preferred byclient. CIRE has successfully organized such special programmes to APTRANSCO engineerstitled as "Executive Orientation Workshops", to APCPDCL on "Demand Side Management withspecific reference to Agricultural Pumping Systems" and to NTPC Electric Supply CompanyLimited (NESCL) engineers a 2 week "Distribution Management and Technologies programme" .

Seminars/Workshops:

CIRE also conducts National Seminars/Workshops on topical themes in collaboration withSEBs/Power Utilities, Software industry and other organizations in the power sector. One dayworkshops on “Clean Development Mechanism – Opportunities for Power Sector” were organizedat Hyderabad, Chandigarh and Kolkatta under the sponsorship of KfW, Germany.

International Programmes:

CIRE has also conducted International Programmes for the Electrical Engineers of Indonesia andSouth Asian Countries. The Institute is now empanelled by Ministry of External Affairs, GoI forconducting programmes for foreign nationals under ITEC/SCAAP.

Teaching Facilities:

The Institute is equipped with latest teaching aids like Computers, LCD/Data Projector, etc. andalso has Internet and E-mail facility.

Dining Hall Lounge Hostel Room (AC)

Hostel:

Hostel facilities in the Institute are upgraded to make the trainee participants more comfortable.Now the hostel has got 36 A/C rooms, 2 A/C VIP suites with an A/C dining hall, and also Internetand E-mail facility.

Library:

It has a well maintained library with a wide range of collection on Energy Development, EnergyEconomics, Rural Electrification, Rural Energy, Energy Conservation, Transmission andDistribution, Rural Development, Information Technology, Financial Management, ProjectManagement, Non-conventional energy sources, etc. and is subscribing to national andinternational journals with special emphasis on energy sector.

Energy Park

An Energy Park has been set up to develop awareness on Non Renewable Energy SourcesSystem by demonstrating the technical and economic feasibility of such systems. It has a SolarPhotovoltaic Street Lighting System, Solar Photovoltaic Lantern, Solar Water Heating System,Solar Photovoltaic Pumping System, Solar Cooker and a 4KW Wind Energy System with batterybackup.
