About hearingprotection

Noise exposure is everywhere. Youcan be exposed at home by lawnmowers, toys, MP3 players, musiccentres, TVs and home appliancessuch as blenders and power tools.

You can also be exposed while attending social eventssuch as discos, health clubs, firework displays, sportingevents and aerobics. Even in your work places if youdeal with IT equipment, work in heavy industry or in acall centre.

Hearing Protection comes in various shapes and sizes. It is important to choose the right attenuation for yourneeds and the best advice will be given. We will consider custom made ear plugs with specific filters, maintaining the best speech in noise to allow continualexposure to what you enjoy doing.

Tinnitus can be very debilitating and so we can advisestrategies and treatments to help reduce the effects andprotect your hearing from greater loss.

People who suffer tinnitus usually report problems withsleep, concentration and attention to detail. Depressionand anxiety can exacerbate the condition and make thetinnitus more distressing. Onset of tinnitus can coincidewith a change of lifestyle including emotional, physicaland social aspects.

About earwax removal

Earwax is a build up of cerumen, sebum, dead cells, sweat, hair andforeign material, e.g. dust. Earwax isa normal physiological substancethat protects the ear canal. The quantity produced varies greatly between individuals.

In the majority of cases, earwax falls out on its ownwithout the need to remove it. However, if earwax istotally blocking your ear, or if any of the followingsymptoms are present, it will need to be removed:Hearing lossEaracheTinnitus (noises in your ear that come from an internal source)Vertigo (the feeling that you are moving while youare still)CoughFeedback (whistling noise when wearing hearing aids)Itchiness

Earwax also needs to be removed before we can makean impression of the ear canal for a hearing aid mould.A poor impression will make the hearing aid uncomfortable or the earwax can cause the hearing aid to whistle.

The choice of hearing aid style is dependent on factorssuch as exact degree of hearing loss; your individualcommunication requirements; your lifestyle and dexterity needs and any medical, audiological or surgical requirements.
