YEAR 7- 9 PBL for Term 3

For Term 3 our students will be learning varies themes for PBL.

Real friendship – Week 6 ● What kind of things can we do to begin and keep friendships?

✓ Join a club or a team. ✓ Meet a neighbour. ✓ Seek out a friend at school. ✓ Make contact with the person you would like to know better. ✓ Find ways to spend time with him/her. ✓ Talk about yourself, sharing more information as time goes by. ✓ Talk on the phone, write text and/or instant message or e-mail notes to your friend.

● What is a friend? Friends are people … …we feel close to. Friends are people who have similar interests, people who care about us, and people we can trust. Friends offer support and understanding when we really need it.

● Why is it important to have good friends? True friendship is important. Friends support one another, listen to each other and give advice. When you and your friend share personal information about yourselves, you can learn from each other and explore what you have in common and what makes you different. Friends can teach us many things like how to play a game or how to make a craft. Friends can introduce us to exciting things like delicious new foods and interesting customs or celebrations. You can also learn about acceptance by appreciating the different qualities that make us unique individuals. When you accept people for who they are, you are being a respectful friend.

● What kinds of things do you like doing with your friends? Ideas might include: playing games (video) and sports, hanging out, having lunch together, attending Girl Guides, Boy Scouts or other community groups, going to classes together (e.g., dance, martial arts, music lessons), watching television/movies, using the computer, working on projects and/or doing homework together.

RESPECTFUL RESPONSIBLE LEARNERS

● How can we be good friends? ✓ Share our interests and activities ✓ Trust each other and be honest ✓ Share our thoughts and feelings ✓ Respect each other’s opinions and beliefs ✓ Try to relate to how the other person feels ✓ Be sincere with each other ✓ Accept each other for who we are ✓ Encourage and support each other Commit to the friendship

I would like to belong – Diversity/inclusive Week 7 The student’s ambitions may seem unrealistic or unattainable to you. However, it is important that they have dreams and that they listen to each other and show respect through their words, tone of voice and body language.

Being excluded causes a lot of pain, especially at a time when peer relationships are so important. Not only do socially rejected children suffer emotionally, but they also can suffer academically. If a child grows into an adult feeling worthless, rejected or less valued than others, this can cause all sorts of issues. Please watch the following https://youtu.be/ZgT-GQvwZ9k

YEAR 10-12 PBL for Term 3 Learning from my world – resilience Week 6 Exploring the seven essential resiliency skills. 1. Emotional awareness & self-regulation 2. Impulse control 3. Optimism 4. Flexible & accurate thinking 5. Empathy 6. Self-efficacy 7. Connecting & reaching out 1. Emotional awareness & self-regulation Ability to identify emotional experiences and control emotional response to external events. Resilient people are comfortable with their feelings and they express a broad array of emotions – happiness, joy, fear, sadness. Resilient people don’t get “stuck” in an emotion. Although they might feel sad or scared, these feelings don’t prevent them from coping with the situation and moving forward. 2. Impulse control Being resilient doesn’t mean not acting on our impulses, but rather, controlling our impulses

3. Optimism Learning the skills of optimism can help protect against depression and anxiety. Optimism involves learning to think positively about the future – even when things go wrong. It’s about looking objectively at a situation, making a conscious

RESPECTFUL RESPONSIBLE LEARNERS

decision to focus on the good. Optimistic people are happier, more engaged, succeed more and are better problem solvers. Optimistic attitudes need to be realistic 4. Flexible & accurate thinking To be resilient requires flexible and accurate thinking, seeing different perspectives. Someone who is resilient can come up with a variety of reasons for being successful in something (multiple factors). Flexible and accurate thinking allows multiple solutions to a problem, having Plan B and C is vital to resilience.

5. Empathy Empathy is the ability to recognise another person’s feelings and respond accordingly and respectfully 6. Self-efficacy Having success in something and then using that as a personal reference point for ability, and working on that to bring further success, achievement and a belief in yourself 7. Connecting & reaching out Having meaningful connections with people, making and nurturing friendships will assist in developing resiliency Watch these: http://au.reachout.com/Fighting–with–a–brother–or–sister http://au.reachout.com/Family–conflict–with–parents

Effective Study Techniques- Week 7

The 10 Habits of Highly Effective Students. 1. Don’t attempt to cram all your studying into one session. 2. Plan when you’re going to study. 3. Study at the same time. 4. Each study time should have a specific goal. 5. Never procrastinate your planned study session. 6. Start with the most difficult subject first. 7. Always review your notes before starting. 8. Make sure you’re not distracted while you’re studying. 9. Use study groups effectively.

Review your notes, school work and other class materials over the weekend.

LEETON HIGH SCHOOL LEARNING FROM HOME ADVICE Leeton High School recognises that each student has different learning needs and abilities, so flexibility is required when determining the best

online learning from home timetable for your child. We are mindful that parents/carers need to schedule their child’s learning at times that will work

with their own ‘work from home’ schedules. We encourage you to keep your arrangements as flexible with the understanding that some students may

have difficulty completing the same amount of work as they would at school. Others may complete more work throughout the day and/or complete it

faster. Please use this timetable as a guide only for a week’s online learning. Students may spend more or less time on each subject but are asked to

engage with each subject over the course of the week as set out in this example timetable. The flexible time spent on each subject could take the form

of reading, research, designing, completing set activities, answering questions, engaging with the teacher/class through Google Classroom, revision,

note-making/summarising. Time spent on each subject is flexible. Students are encouraged to get some exercise during the ‘school’ day as well.

Please call the school on 0269532122 with any questions.
