The galleries participating this year inABIERTO VALÈNCIA by LAVAC are:Espai Nivi Collblanc, Luis Adelantado,Aural, Benlliure, Isabel Bilbao, Alba CabreraGalería Cuatro, Espai Tactel, La Mercería,The Blink Project, Tuesday to Friday,Punto Gallery, Rosa Santos, Set Espai d’Art,Shiras Gallery, Thema Gallery, and Vangar.Espai Nivi Collblanc and Alicante’s Aural participate in spaces on loan, while Isabel Bilbao will participate from Jávea.
ABIERTO VALÈNCIA will start on Thursday 24th September and will last until Friday 2nd October. On Friday 25th and Saturday 26th the Valencian galleries will open their doors to announce the opening of their programme and new projects to the general public. In addition, the usual awards from the Department of Culture for the ‘Best Exhibition’ and the award from the City of Valencia for the ‘Outstanding Artist’ will be announced. It will also communicate the winners with the acquisition of work, which this year will be granted by the Hortensia Herrero Foundation, the DKV collection, the Gandía Blasco company, the Juan José Castellano Comenge Foundation and the MAKMA magazine.
This year the culmination in ABIERTO VALÈNCIA will be the popular award to young artists (Popular Award Cervezas Alhambra), thanks to the participation of Cervezas Alhambra in the eighth edition of the event this September. The Popular Award Cervezas Alhambra is a special support to art, which rewards both artists and galleries, and seeks to disseminate and promote the creations, to bring them to a wider audience and contribute to the revaluation of the works. The brand’s informative work is a call to the public to get involved with a way of understanding life, which reflects the philosophy of Cervezas Alhambra. The award invites the public to visit the exhibitions of the galleries that are part of LAVAC (Association of Contemporary Art Galleries of the Valencian Community) and to be judges and part of ABIERTO VALÉNCIA 2020, choosing by means of popular and telematic voting from home, thus avoiding contacts and favouring the participation of the public in the most outstanding project, within its proposals of young artists under 45 years old.
On Thursday 24 September the jury will visit all the galleries to announce the awards the next day. The members of the jury are: the collector Natalia Yera, the director of the video art fair Loop in Barcelona, Aurélien Le Genissel, José Luis Pérez Pont, director of the Centre del Carme de Cultura Contemporània, and Sandra Moros, curator of the IVAM.
The press conference will be held on Friday 25th September in the morning at the IVAM and the names of all the winners will be announced, except for the Popular Award Cervezas Alhambra which will be announced on 2nd October.
As in previous editions, the Arco Gallery Walk on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th, organized by ARCO, and the talks at IVAM on the morning of Saturday 26th September, which this year have been sponsored by the Foundation ‘El Secreto de la Filantropía’,will stand out. The participants will be: Elisa Hernando, founder of Arte Global and Red Collectors; Javier Molins, curator and director of the Centro de Arte Hortensia Herrero, and Luis Trigo, president of the Foundation ‘El Secreto de la Filantropía’.
The 17 art galleries participating in the VIII edition of Abierto València 2020 have different profiles, offering a wide variety of artistic proposals open to all audiences. The galleries are located in 4 routes in the historical center of the city of Valencia: El Carmen, Velluters, El Ensanche and Ruzafa. With the collaboration of the Valencian Association of Museum Educators (AVALEM), visits are organized during the weekend. Registration is free and is done online.
