Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC)Quarterly Newsletter
ABES Engineering College, Ghaziabad
Issue 2 Vol.2 Oct. to Dec., 2018.
Director’s Message
Over the last 15 years there had been tremendous growth of higher education
institutions in the country providing education in Engineering, Management and
other areas. However there had been genuine concern of the stakeholders about
the quality of education being provided especially by the private institutions. I am
happy to note that ABESEC stands apart and is continuously engaged in promoting
quality culture in its academic and administrative processes. Accreditation of the
College by the NAAC, accreditation of four departments by the NBA, participation in NIRF activity
since its inception and ISO certification are manifestation of the quality policy of the College. The
IQAC Cell of the College has become the nodal cell to steer these quality initiatives in the College.
My best wishes to all concerned in their endeavor to achieve highest standard of quality in
Engineering and Management education being provided by ABESEC.
-Prof. (Dr.) Vijay Athavale
Co-ordinator’s Message
The broader aim of the Internal Quality Assurance System of ABESEC is to promote
quality culture in the College so that the academic departments and other units of
the College become quality conscious and assume self-regulated responsibilities. In
the year 2018, IQAC has made significant contribution in strengthening the
Outcome Based Education (OBE) processes, quantitative planning of the academic
activities by the departments, finalizing the student centric strategies like strategies for the
advanced learners and the slow learners , counseling & grievance mechanism for the students etc.
Quality improvement is an ongoing process. IQAC shall contribute to take initiates in all facets of
academic processes for institutionalizing the quality assurance strategies and processes in the
College.
-Prof. Arun Kumar Arora
Head (EN) Message
It is a matter of great pride that the second issue of Internal Quality Assurance Cell
newsletter is being released. In this era of engineering education transformation,
the faculty and students have to play a crucial role in the overall development. It
therefore becomes obligatory on the part of faculty and students to enhance their
skills beyond academics. To guarantee a better education system, best practices
and processes are required to be enacted and administered. I feel honored to share that IQAC of
our Institute is committed to ensure the same. The IQAC is envisioning a system for conscious and
consistent improvement in the performance of its principal stakeholders that is faculty, staff and
students. I appreciate the hard work of the IQAC in their commendable effort and congratulate
them on the publication of this newsletter.

Quality assurance (QA) is the process of verifying whether services meets required s p e c i f i c a t i o n s a n d stakeholders expectations. QA's primary goal is tracking and resolving deficiencies prior to services provided. Quality assurance managers play a crucial role in business by ensuring that products meet certain thresholds of acceptabil ity. They plan, direct or coordinate quality assurance programs and formulate quality control policies. They also work to improve an organization's efficiency and profitability by reducing waste.ISO International Standards ensure that products and services are safe, reliable and of good quality. Standards mean better value for all. They e n s u re t h e q u a l i t y a n d consistency of services, giving all stakeholders greater peace of mindAt ABESEC, to meet the defined standards, we have few supporting centers and they are continuously working to ensure that students should not be only good at a c a d e m i c s , s u c c e s s f u l employable graduates and successful entrepreneurs, but also become responsible citizens with high ethics and social conduct.I n t h i s i s s u e o f I Q A C newsletter, we are discussing role of Center of Building Skills and Employability (CBSE), ABESEC Startups Labs (ASL), Student Clubs and ABESEC as participant institute under Unnat Bharat Abhiyaan.

The Entrepreneurship Concept: Role in Institutional Quality Building
Background:In the early 1940s, Abraham Maslow created his theory of needs. This identified the basic needs that human beings have, in order of their importance: physiological needs, safety needs, and the needs for belonging, self-esteem & "self-actualization".
Later, David McClelland built on this work in his 1961 book, "The Achieving Society." He identified three motivators that he believed we all have: a need for achievement, a need for affiliation, and a need for power. People will have different characteristics depending on their dominant motivator.
According to McClelland, these motivators are learned (which is why this theory is sometimes called the Learned Needs Theory).
McClelland says that, regardless of our gender, culture, or age, we all have three motivating drivers, and one of these will be our dominant motivating driver. This dominant motivator is largely dependent on our culture and life experiences.

ABESEC Startups Lab's (ASL) Entrepreneurship Training Programmes
ASL leads the entrepreneurship training under the aegis of DST sponsored DST-NIMAT Project. To understand and develop the achievement motivation in the participants variety of tools and activities are used during training process, called behavioral training module. Our varieties of training programmes as mentioned below are designed to develop the entrepreneurial culture within the organization/ society. These programmes are focused for science & technology group, which involves students, faculty and unemployed youth at various levels.
Role in Quality of Institution: The highly motivated faculty and students of science & technology domain would surely able to opt quality research & innovation areas in the institution. The quality research, innovation and startups leads to build a high class academic institution and also contributes in the generation of IP value for the nation.

ABESEC as participating Institute under “UNNAT BHARAT ABHIYAN” (Id: 3238, C-46112)
The Unnat Bharat Abhiyan(UBA) is an endeavor of Govt of India and was launched by the Ministry of Human
Resource Development in presence of the President of India on 11th November, 2014.
Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is inspired by the vision of transformational change in rural development processes by
leveraging knowledge institutions to help build the architecture of an Inclusive India. The Mission of UBA is to enable
higher educational institutions to work with the people of rural India in identifying development challenges and
evolving appropriate solutions for accelerating sustainable growth. It also aims to create a virtuous cycle between
society and an inclusive academic system by providing knowledge and practices for emerging professions and to
upgrade the capabilities of both the public and the private sectors in responding to the development needs of rural
India.
Contributing to national development has always been an implicit goal of ABES Engineering College. Accordingly in
line with the vision and mission of the UBA, the Management of ABESEC decided to participate in the UBA.
ABESEC has adopted five villages-Masuri, Kanauja, Matiala, Kushaliya, Muhiddinpur and Dabarsi. About 80 students
of ABESEC are involved with different villages and are working on five themes suggested by Government of India
• Organic farming

ABESEC Student Clubs
“All work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy” ABES Engineering College, Ghaziabad is steadily paving a path towards
a new era of education with a special focus to integrate three vital genera of education: Reasoning, Experiential
Learning and Emotional Intelligence.
We understand that education has surpassed the four walls of classroom and aiming to the holistic development of
students. This holistic approach includes learning through extra-curricular activities which are cultural activities,
sports activities and many more learning through various competitions. This approach brings a balance between
curriculums, studies, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.
A Chinese proverb appropriately states “Teach me, and I will forget. Show me, I might remember. Involve me and I will
never forget.” Even at the time of placements, organizations are not only considering the academics performances
but the involvements of students in extracurricular activities. They believe that through such activities an individual
can develop the character, values, creativity and become emotionally strong. It also contributes in many ways like:
· Strengthen self Confidence
· Enhance Personality
· Develop sense of responsibility
· Effective Interpersonal Skills
· Team Building and leading skills
We wish that the students participate in more and more extracurricular activities.ABES Club Committee now ensures
that everyone gets an opportunity to be a part of any one club of our institution.
