Interested in acting or directing but don’t have a lot of time? Have a great script you’d love to see on stage? Contact ACT at (605) 225-2228 or [email protected]

FROM THE Artistic/MAnAging DirEctOrWelcome.

Thanks for coming. I’m so pleased to have half of this cast new to ACT. It’s always a pleasure to welcome new talent. I actually wish every cast was 50% new. So if you haven’t yet auditioned for an ACT production but have thought about it (even in the back of your mind), please audition. Call us at 225-2228 or go to AberdeenCommunityTheatre.com to sign up for future production notices. We love to welcome new talent to the ACT family - onstage or backstage.

As we continue to bring you a variety of shows at Aberdeen Community Theatre, we hope you like our production of this 2005 Pulitzer Prize winning play.

I have always liked this script. It is well written and thought provoking. What is doubt, what kinds of secrets do we all have and how do our past secrets influence our current interactions? How do our convictions and doubts interplay?

In discussing the play, each of the cast has their own secrets as the character they portray. They have not revealed their secrets to each other (or they wouldn’t be secrets). And yet, those secrets influence who they are and how their characters, and ultimately, the play, unfold.

The playwright, John Patrick Shanley, in the preface to the script states, “Doubt requires more courage than conviction does and more energy; because conviction is a resting place and doubt is infinite – it is a passionate exercise. You may come out of my play uncertain. You may want to be sure. Look down on that feeling. We’ve got to learn to live with a full measure of uncertainty. There is no last word. That’s the silence under the chatter of our time.”

There is one thing of which I have no doubt, we appreciate each of you for your support of ACT. Although we are not yet where we need to be to make our contribution budget for this season, I have faith we will get there. If you have not made a contribution or are able to show further support, please use the back page of this program. Thanks again for being a supporting part of ACT. It means so much.
