Thanks to generous donations, the CHS Hall of Fame committee is creating a scholarship for a deserving CHS senior. The committee is currently working on criteria for this new award. More infor-mation will be available this summer and formally announced at the 2011 Hall of Fame ceremony. If you are interested in contributing to this scholar-ship, please call the Foundation at 605-725-7118.

Businesses Partner to Benefit CHS

Two area businesses are partnering with the Aberdeen Public Schools Foundation to make an electronic message board a reality at Central High School. Sanford Health and Midstates/QQP are donating the funds for an electronic message board to be placed near Central High School. Dr. Gary Harms, Superintendent of the Aberdeen Public Schools explains, “We are so thankful to the generosity of both Sanford Health and Midstates/QQP to help make this sign a reality. When businesses partner with the Public Schools Foundation, the school district and our students all benefit.” “Sanford Health is dedicated to support our local communities,” commented Paul DeVoe, Director of Public Affairs at Sanford Health-Aberdeen. “We are a strong supporter of education, and look forward

to continuing our partnership with Aberdeen Public Schools in the future.” “There are many activities going on at Central High School year round. This message board will promote those events, as well as serve as a welcome to our out-of-town visitors,” Harms continues.

Justin Feickert, Director of Sales and Marketing at Midstates, Inc. said, “We are proud to partner with and support the Aberdeen Public Schools Foundation. It’s great that this project will help make people aware of the wonderful things going on at CHS.” Construction on the sign will begin this summer and is expected to be done before the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year.

As part of the big 100-year celebration, the ARCC (old CHS) is looking for photos of the building or events going on at the school. If you have any that you would

like to loan to the Foundation, please call the office at 605-725-7118.

Russ Keen Memorial Scholarship Endowment

CHS alumni will now have the opportunity to vie for a newly developed Journalism/Communications Scholarship. The Russ Keen Memorial Scholarship, which has been estab-lished through an endowment with the Aberdeen Public Schools Foundation, will be given as an annual scholarship award. This endowment was started by the loving family of Russ Keen. Russ, who was a reporter for the Aberdeen News for many years, covered numerous school matters and events. His sister, Mary Keen, explains, “Russ loved reporting and journalism. Our family wanted to pay tribute to our deeply missed brother and knew he would have enjoyed helping instill a love of journalism for future generations.” Dr. Gary Harms, Superintendent of Aberdeen Public Schools stated, “I’m overwhelmed and thankful that Russ’ memory will continue to live on at the Aberdeen Public Schools. He was such a fixture at our events and meeting, and still deeply missed. We are grateful for the gift that will forever provide wonderful scholarship opportunities to our alumni.” The Russ Keen Memorial Scholarship is designed for CHS alumni, in their second or third year of post-secondary educa-tion, pursuing a degree in Communications or Journalism. The Aberdeen American News, Russ’ long-time employer, has decided to support this scholarship by matching the amount awarded for the next three years. For more infor-mation on donating to this endowment, please contact the Foundation at 605-725-7118.

Endowment UpdatesTwo Newly Created Endowments to Support CHS Students and Alumni

Don and Rosemary Reshetar Memorial Endowment

The family and friends of Don and Rosemary Reshetar are remembering this great couple by creating an en-dowment in their memory. Don and his wife, Rosemary, moved their young family to Aberdeen in 1960. Here Don worked as a teacher, coach and administrator for over 30 years. Don was head foot-ball coach from 1960-1972. He was Athletic Director for 22 years and was named SD High School Athletic Direc-tor of the Year in 1982. The field house at Clark Swisher Athletic Complex was named in his honor along with coach Jim Kretchman in 2006. In 2008 he was inducted into the CHS Hall of Fame. He was on the Aberdeen Public Schools Foundation Board from 2003-2010.

“This scholarship helps pay tribute to an exceptional coach and family. May we always remember Don and all he and Rosemary have done to support CHS,” said Gene Brownell, CHS Athletic Director. This newly created endowment will provide a scholar-ship to a CHS senior, who shows excellence in athlet-ics, character, and classroom achievements. Don and Rosemary will be remembered for all they did for CHS and the Aberdeen community. If you are in-terested in contributing to this scholarship endowment, please contact the Foundation office at 605-725-7118.
