(b) Knowledge and skills. (7) Reading/letter-sound relationships. The student uses letter-sound knowledge to
decode written language. The student is expected to: (A) name and identify each letter of the alphabet (K-1);
(B) understand that written words are composed of letters that represent sounds (K-1); and
(C) learn and apply letter-sound correspondences of a set of consonants and vowels to begin to read (K-1).

What Students will Learn:
• Students need to learn the Alphabet to continue on to learn to read and write• The will learn what makes every letter
different• Vowels and consonants• Upper case and lower case letters
Students will Learn by:
• Weekly letters being introduced• Worksheets teaching children to
write each letter• Matching the letter to the sound it
makes• Matching letters to words
Classroom Pictures:These are very different classrooms from all around the world. The similarity is that they are all learning the Alphabet.
Capital Letters
A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, W,
X, Y, Z
Lower Case Letters
a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i, j, k, l, m, n, o, p, q, r, s, t, u, v, w, x, y, z
VOWELS
•A, E, I, O, U and sometimes Y•The rest are considered CONSONANTS
