    On August 14, 1964, at the request of President Lewis F. Powell, Jr., the House of Delegates of the

    &% 1?1 A -asi! tenet of the $rofessional res$onsi-ilit of lawers is that e'er $erson in ourso!iet should ha'e read a!!ess to the inde$endent $rofessional ser'i!es of a lawer of integrit and!o$eten!e. +aintaining the integrit and i$ro'ing the !o$eten!e of the -ar to eet the higheststandards is the ethi!al res$onsi-ilit of e'er lawer.

    EC 1() *he $u-li! should -e $rote!ted fro those who are not qualified to -e lawers - reasonof a defi!ien! in edu!ation1or oral standards5or of other rele'ant fa!tors-ut who ne'ertheless
