    1. Class of Service (COS)

    • When off-hook detected, Local Exchange first check subscriber’s COS

    • Type of COS: – line type (ex. 001/010 domestic / business subscriber’s line)

    – barring level (ex. 11/01 international calls / all outgoing calls bared)

    Digit Analysis

    In originating call, digit analysis is done through firsts digits to define the type of call

    • 1 and 9: for emergency or call the operator

    • 0: national / international prefix

    • 2 - 6: local number

    • * and #: for special feature (call diversion, hot-line, call waiting)

    Digit Translation

    • To define connection path (route) to other exchange

    • To define charging

    • All are done by checking the data record and compare them with predefined data structure

    • Example:

    – 3 digit area code

    – 3 digit exchange code

    – 4 digit subscriber number

    Charging

    • Charging is recorded at originating exchange

    • Charging is based on CDR (Call Data Record):

    – Caller number (originating)

    – Called number (destination)

    – Time start and end (date and hour)

    • CDR is downloaded and processed by billing system to create invoice
