A Message from Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake:

As Mayor of Baltimore, I am excited to welcome you to our great city for the African

American Festival. This weekend, Baltimore is home to one of the largest cultural

heritage festivals on the East Coast. Hundreds of thousands of people from Baltimore,

Washington, Virginia and throughout the region will converge on M&T Bank Stadium to

take part in this two-day festival of family, arts, and culture.

This year, the African American Festival has been reimagined through a partnership

between the City and greiBO Entertainment. We promise to captivate and excite visitors

with performances by local and nationally acclaimed artists, interactive exhibits and

family activities that promote the arts, history, and education. Interactive exhibits and

seminars devoted to financial literacy, health and wellness, careers and employment, and

home ownership will cultivate knowledge and help to build a better, safer, stronger

Baltimore.

While you are in Baltimore, I invite you to explore our historic city. Take the time to visit

our colorful neighborhoods, restaurants and shops, and most important, meet the people

who make this city unique.

Enjoy the 2011 African American Festival! We hope to see you next year.

Sincerely,

Stephanie Rawlings-Blake

Dear Family,

It is my pleasure to welcome everyone to the 2011 African American Festival. This year’s theme:

A Celebration of Life, Music and Culture is a multi-dimensional expression of our ethnicity,

tradition, talent, culinary and artistic expertise!

The 2011 Festival is a new beginning of a thirty year old tradition. Our goal is to enrich our

audience with activities that highlight our history and illuminate our future. This Festival draws

over 300,000 attendees from across Maryland and the surrounding region. Our two days are filled

with excitement, fun, family friendly activities, and national entertainment headliners. More

than 150 sponsors, vendors, and communities groups are participating this year. It is a one-of-a

kind experience that provides attendees with the tools and resources they can take back to

their communities. This year we brand the festival with our Baltimore SuperStar Contest, Gospel

Competition and a 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament.

As a native Baltimorean, I am especially proud to be involved in such a wonderful project that

showcases our city. I want to personally thank Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and the City of

Baltimore for entrusting greiBO to produce this unique experience. Our strength and success lies

in collaboration and teaming. The collective spirit of our Festival Steering Committee, dedicated

volunteers, partners and advisory board, is second to none. The generosity of our sponsors is the

engine that makes this all happen. You are to be commended for setting the bar of excellence.

Because of you, we are the largest African American festival on the east coast. Please make

sure you embrace the entire footprint. There are many hidden treasures that you will enjoy!

Sincerely,

Shelonda Stokes

Dear Friends:

On behalf of my Radio One family, I extend warm greetings to everyone attending the 2011

African American Festival in the wonderful city of Baltimore, Maryland.

It is a pleasure to serve as the chairperson of the Honorary Advisory Board, a distinction of great

pride. It has been delightful to work with Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, greiBO

Entertainment, and my fellow advisory board members.

The African American Festival has long been a part of Baltimore’s tradition. 2011 is both

pivotal and historic. Radio One’s Stone Soul Picnic is being presented at the African American

Festival for the first time this year. These two annual powerhouse events combined will make

this the summer signature event to attend.

Over the next two days, please take the time to explore and connect with the African American

Festival’s coordinators. It is incumbent upon us to make sure we leverage opportunities to

fellowship with our family and friends. Please use this festival to positively engage our young

people and honor our elders.

I am delighted to be a part of the 2011 African American Festival. Please accept my best wishes

for a fruitful event with more successes to come!

Sincerely,

Catherine L. Hughes
