Travelling to Czestochowa….

Kostas and Eleni are brother and sister. They come from Cyprus. They live in Strovolos and they are in the 5th grade of Chryseleousa Primary School. They love travelling and they like

playing with the globe. They close their eyes, spin the globe and then they stop it with a finger by touching it a point on the globe. If that point happens to be Beijing or in some-

where in Madagascar or in Mexico, they look it up on the Internet or in a library and try to collect information about that place. This time they pointed at Czestochowa, a town in the

south of Poland.

The journey begins... Let’s follow them ....

Let’s go to Chestochowa …….

Eleni, I think that if we want to go to Czestochowa, we need to first travel to Warsaw, the capital of

Poland. Wizz Air is a good airline choice, because we can get a direct flight to War-saw from Larnaca airport, the one nearest to our town.

Great! That will give us a chance to walk around the beautiful old town of Warsaw. But Kostas, we need to bear in mind that if we want to get to Czestochowa we need to get the train or the bus from Warsaw. I think the train is a better idea. We can get to our destination in 3 hours. What do you think? Very good idea. We will have to

calculate the total cost of travel-ling. The return plane ticket to Warsaw costs 128 Euro for each person and the Intercity return train ticket to Czestochowa costs

25 Euro each.

So, two return tickets by 128 Euro equals: 2Χ 128 = 256 Euro And 2 train tickets to Czestochowa 2X 25 = 50 50 X 2 = 100 Total cost 356 Euro. It seems like a very reasonable price. What do

you think Kosta?

It seems ok. We need to also estimate the cost of our accommodation. Ibis Hotel is a good choice. It costs 45 Euro per night including breakfast. So it will cost us (3Χ45)Χ2= 270 Euro in total.

Good! We also need to calcu-late our meal expenses. We will stay there for 3 days and we need to pay for 2 more meals a day each. If each meal costs approximately 20 Euro then we will pay: 3 Χ (2 Χ 20) Χ 2 = 240 Euro for the 3 days of our stay

This means that our trip will cost us approximate-ly 866 Euro in total. Let’s go!!!

Using the local cur-rency, out trip will cost us 3464 Zloty.

PLACES OF INTEREST

The first place of interest we are

visiting, will be Jansa Gora, with

the miraculous icon of the Black

Madonna, that every year

attracts millions of pilgrims who

travel on foot for several days

covering many kilometers. They

arrive at Jansa Gora on the 15th

of August, which is a celebration

day for the Madonna.

Jasna Góra Avenue

Eleni, we are visiting the tower of Vavel, the larg-

est graffiti in town, that was made in 2014 by

Thomas Setwski, one of the most famous artists of

Czestochowa. It’s inspired by themes from the Bi-

ble and from mythology.

I definitely want to take a photograph next to the 2007 sculpture that de-picts Halina Poswia-towska, a famous poet from Czestochowa, with a cat by her legs.

Hey Costas, let’s not forget to have a look at the 2-metre-high bronze statue of the Pope, a pilgrim on his way to the Jasna Gora Monastery. And also the giant cross in front of the statue that symbol-izes a gate for the pilgrims.
