Banks Passive Park in Brownsville, September 11, 2010 at 6 p.m. Reverend Sammy Tillman officiated the double ring ceremony. Long is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ricky Long of Ripley and Ms. Mary Reeves of Halls. The groom’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. David Clagg of Jackson and Max Williams and Debi Clagg of Brownsville. The bride, given in marriage by her father, Ricky Long of Ripley, carried red roses and ivy. The matron of honor was Kristen Mooney of Bay St. Louis, MS. The bridesmaids were Morgan Williams of Brownsville and Brandi Ables of Gates. Honorary bridesmaids were Amber and Tara Meadows, sisters of the bride, both from Ripley. The attendants wore knee length black chiffon dresses and carried bouquets of red roses and green hypericum berries. Flower girls were nieces of the groom, Emma and Hadley Clagg of Brownsville. Clagg’s best man was Marshall Stoots of Brownsville. The groomsmen were Ben Taylor and Chad Clagg, brother of the groom, both of Brownsville. A reception was held at the Brownsville Country Club. Cooks like you from across the country entered their creative salad recipes for a chance at a trip to Nashville, Tenn. and a $1,000 cook’s dream shopping spree. The Kitchen Crew and I considered each entry’s flavor, presentation, ease of preparation, and creativity, and I’m delighted to announce that Marie Guaragna of Arlington, Virginia is the First Place winner with her Mandarin Orange/Strawberry Spinach Salad! This salad is a crowd pleaser, indeed. Congratulations Marie! Enjoy and remember, use “just a pinch”... www.justapinch.com/salad What You Need 1 c chopped celery 1 tbsp minced fresh parsley 2 sprigs chopped spring onions, including tops 1 bunch fresh spinach (ready to eat in a bag) 11 oz mandarin oranges drained 1 c fresh sliced strawberries DRESSING: 1/4 c salad oil 2 tbsp raspberry vinegar 2 tbsp sugar 1 pinch black pepper 1/2 tsp salt GARNISH: 2 tbsp sugar 1/4 c sliced almonds Directions Mix celery, parsley and onions together; refrigerate. Drain mandarin oranges and Mandarin Orange/ Strawberry Spinach Salad refrigerate. (You can keep some of the juice to add to the dressing also.) Wash and dry strawberries; Slice and refrigerate. DRESSING: Mix ingredients thoroughly and refrigerate (Note: keeps for several days). Shake well before adding to salad. GARNISH: To caramelize almonds, put sugar and almonds in a frying pan on medium heat and stir constantly to lightly brown almonds. Put on a piece of wax paper to cool. To Serve: place spinach in a bowl, then add the celery mixture, mandarin oranges and strawberries, almonds and dressing. Toss and serve! In this case it wasn’t quite “The King” but was actually “The King of Hearts” Butch Dicus. Dicus, an expert Elvis Impersonator performed a plethora of Presley tunes, as well as delving into a bit of country like Johnny Cash. Residents hit Dicus with a thunderous applause and cheers. It was almost as if the King had come back. Dicus has been an Elvis Impersonator for 30 years, and has had the pleasure of performing in various casinos, sporting arenas, corporate events and charity functions. Dicus even got the opportunity to perform at Humes High School—the school Elvis graduated from—twice. Dicus, who was also born on Elvis’ birthday, won over the large crowd easily with his strong voice and charismatic stage presence. Although most were seated, you wouldn’t have been surprised to see a little toe-tapping here or there. Elvis has entered the building Elvis Impersonator, Butch Dicus, sings a number of classic tunes. Elvis had a little bit of help with singing, thanks to Grace Mulligan and Joan Lanphere. Working up a sweat, Dicus gets the king treatment when it comes to drying his brow. Dicus performed to a crowded and excited audience. Butch Dicus shows some of his moves.

Sugar Creek residents got quite the treat last Thursday, October 7, as special visitor performed.In this case it wasn’t quite “The King” but was actually “The King of Hearts” Butch Dicus.

Dicus, an expert Elvis Impersonator performed a plethora of Presley tunes, as well as delving into a bit of country like Johnny Cash.
