The champi- onship attracted 181 10 and 11 year old boys and girls from the Rocky Mountain Divi- sion to compete in slalom and giant slalom. “Our athletes came well prepared this weekend to compete in a large field consist- ing of all U12 USSA racers in the region,” said Brett Borgard, Ski & Snowboard Club Vail U12 head coach. “These young com- petitors were able to bring what they were learning on the training hill all season long to the race course, which is a huge part of success in this sport. This event gives every U12 USSA racer in the region the opportu- nity to experience a championship event in a fun, team building setting.” Forty-three SSCV U12 athletes (21 girls and 22 boys) competed in the Rocky Moun- tain Division U12 Championships. The weekend consisted of a USSA SkillsQuest competition of pole jumpers and side edge slip drills along with two single run giant slalom races on Saturday and two single run slalom races on Sunday. Ski & snowboard Club Vail’s Tianna Bruce tied for first place in the SkillsQuest competition. WEEKEND HIGHLIGHTS “These athletes performed spectacularly well. Since our last competition, we have spent the past five weeks working on tech- nique and tactics and it really paid off. We also did some intra-squad time trials and race simulations on our home mountain to further prepare the team for this weekend. I have seen tremendous improvements, which the athletes demonstrated through their ac- complishments at these races,” said Borgard. SSCV took home fist place as an overall team for the U12 Rocky Mountain Division Championships.
