A2 Practical Coursework- Choice of briefs. Janet Bargmann

A promotion package for the release of an album, to include a music promo video, together with two of the following three options:

A (working) website homepage for the band;

A digipak for the album's release; A magazine advertisement for the

digipak

This task is asking me to create a music video for a new album, as well as choosing two out of the three points mentioned above. A digipak is a style of CD or DVD packaging, so I think this means that we'll have to create an album cover for the new album, to look something like this:

WebpagesThe webpage will also have to connote the genre of the artist/band. Here is the link to Shinedown's homepage: http://www.shinedown.com/ They are an American rock/hard rock band, and you can see how the colours of white, grey, black and red are very prominent and consistent. The style is of their latest album "Amaryllis", so they are advertising their new products through the layout, and also by having music videos we can see what sort of music they make.

Similarly, on Olly Murs' website found at this link: http://www.ollymurs.com/gb/ The newest album is shown regularly to advertise to people who haven't bought the album yet. The colour scheme is similar to before, but white is more prominent. The colours are very important because it can create a clear difference in the genres of these artists and therefore making it clear for the audience.

A short film in its entirety, lasting approximately 5 minutes which may be live action, animated or a combination of both, together with two of the following three options:

A poster for the film; A radio trailer for the film; A film magazine review page featuring

the film

This second task is asking for me to create a short film, lasting around 5 minutes, and I have the choice of making it an animation or live action. I also have to make two out of the three things listed above. These are posters of films of different genres…

What are the features/conventions?

The Da Vinci Code: The two main characters are in the middle of the poster, looking really serious. This shows the intensity of the film, and suggests that it is a crime thriller. The red background also connotes danger or death.

Hot Fuzz: The two protagonists take up the whole poster, suggesting that, by their facial expressions, something unexpected will happen. The colour scheme doesn’t imply that it is a comedy, but more of a comedy thriller.

HTTYD2: The proxemics show that Hiccup is the main character, and the way he is standing makes him look stronger or braver. It’s obviously an animation, so it’s typically for a younger audience.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier: Again the proxemics show the importance of the characters. The main colour is blue, which is stereotypically a masculine colour which could imply this film is for men.

World War Z: The title suggests that this is about war and Zombies. Also the way that Brad Pitt is standing in the helicopter connotes that he has the upper hand, as he is looking down on the city being destroyed. However, he is on his knees and therefore looks slightly helpless, which is often a convention in horror films.

Radio Trailers Radio trailers tend to differ from those

seen on YouTube or on TV/cinema, because the sounds will have to be emphasized as the audience obviously can’t see what’s happening- e.g dialogue.
