Question 1: “In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of a real media product”

Our media product uses conventions from a real life media product. Conventions of a rap album cover and back cover include the album title, artist name, images and barcodes, plus more. Here are examples of how our album uses the conventions vs. a real album

Question 1: “In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of a real media product”

Use Develop Challenge

• Basic conventions of an album cover are title, image and artist name. Which both covers use Our album cover (to the left) uses similar clothing and accessories as the one on the left which is a convention of rap music.

• The shadow in our album cover develops on themes behind rap music conventions. It has a dark theme but also the basketball net relates the video to sports and activities which are common in rap music video.

• Conventions are challenged in our media product by the artist being female in a mainly male dominated industry, rap. This is shown throughout the album cover, music video and advertisement

Question 1: “In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of a real media product”

Use Develop Challenge

• A common convention in a music video is to have lots of preforming with no real narrative, although our music video does have part narrative, there are lots of preforming parts all throughout the video which is common in hip hop/rap music videos.

• Our music video develops on the one from the right by not using as many bright colours. Our video fits in with a more masculine rap genre, rather than colourful and pink – which is stereotypically female.

• A convention of hip hop music videos is the location, our music video is set in England which isn’t a common location for rap music videos, whereas most are set in New York (e.g.)

Question 1: “In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of a real media product”

Use Develop• Our media advertisement uses many conventions of a music

advertisement for example it clearly displays the name of the album and song in a different coloured font to the rest of the text to make it stand out from the rest, this is also done in the example of a real life media text to the right.

• Our advertisement develops on the conventions of a standard one by also including the release date and where the album is available to buy, for example ours has examples of where you can buy the album at the bottom whereas the real life media text does not.
