A12 SUNDAY, JANUARY 20, 2013 LEXINGTON HERALD-LEADER | KENTUCKY.COM BARTA Marilyn (Mee Maw) Johnson, 89, passed away January 17, 2013 surrounded by her loving family, four days before her 90th birth- day. Marilyn was born Janu- ary 21, 1923 in Woodford County, KY. She was the widow of James Barta. As a member of Beargrass Christi- an Church she was active in the Disciples Women’s Min- istry and a Sunday school teacher. She had a special de- votion to the Boy Scouts of America, having married a professional Scout Executive and was an employee of the Scout office for a number of years. She later served as den mother for her son’s Cub Scout den. She was a past member of the St. Matthews Women’s Club and was an avid bridge player. She re- tired from Surgical Associ- ates of Lexington, KY at the age of 65. On her 80th birth- day she was commissioned as a KY Colonel for her serv- ice and accomplishments on behalf of her fellow man. She is survived by her son, James A. Barta (Edwina); grand- children, Ashley Barta Pearl (Quinn), James Patrick Barta (Melanie) and Karl Allen Barta; great-granddaughter, Hadley Quinn Pearl; great- grandsons, Graham Harrison Pearl, James Timothy Barta and Kawood Zachary Barta; step-grandchildren, Dulaney Ashley, Isadora Ashley May (Tim) and Elizabeth Ashley. She is also survived by her extended family of nieces and nephews whom she adored. Mrs. Barta’s memo- rial service will be Sunday 4pm at Ratterman’s, 3711 Lexington Rd. “in St. Mat- thews” with visitation from 2-4pm. Memorial contribu- tions in her name may go to Millville Christian Church, 5210 McCracken Pike, Ver- sailles, KY 40383. HART Robert Peter, 71, died November 27, 2012, at St. Joseph’s Hospital Hospice Unit after a long struggle with cancer. Born January 30, 1941, the only child of Hubert N. and Ruth W. Hart of Huntington, Long Island, he was predeceased by his wife of 41 years, Diane E. Safarik. Bob attended the Collegiate School of Manhat- tan and Amherst College, and graduated with a degree in History from C W Post College. He and Disie volun- teered for the Peace Corps in 1964, assigned to Malawi, Africa as teachers, also help- ing to conduct Malawi’s first national census. After their two-year assignment, they toured 6000 miles across southern Africa on a temper- amental motorcycle… their great adventure. Bob and Disie settled in Syracuse, NY for 26 years, where he was employed by Carrier Corp, and where he became an en- thusiastic sailor on Lake On- tario. Bob’s retirement and Disie’s love of horses led them to settle in Lexington, KY, in 1992. Bob was known and loved for his wit, humor, and generosity. He would be pleased if his friends would pick a favorite restaurant, en- joy a good time, and raise a glass in his memory. Per his wishes, no service is plan- ned.
