WORLDWIDE C AMPUS

A World of Opportunities

The pioneering and unique Global EMBA HSG is one of the first programmes worldwide to provide a solid foundation in General Management, with a special focus on International Business. Held on location at six leading universities on five different continents, the GEMBA HSG is specially designed to give participants access to a wide range of international experts as well as on-site exposure to diverse business practices and cultures in key economic centres.

Knowledge for Impact

In a volatile and competitive global economy, a company’s most valuable commodity is knowledge. At the HSG, we educate participants in the principles of sustainability, enabling them to provide significant, long-term value for their companies. Moreover, we ensure that, as holders of the prestigious Global Executive MBA HSG academic degree, our graduates are ideally equipped with the experience and expertise to succeed in an increasingly international economic environment.

A Tradition of Excellence, a Vision for the Future

Founded in 1898, the University of St.Gallen can reflect on over a century of excellence. We have been educating executives through our highly ranked EMBA HSG since 1987, and in 2012, our Executive MBA programme – the first in the German-speaking world and one of the most successful in Europe – celebrated 25 years of world-class academic achievement. The Global EMBA HSG builds on this tradition while specifically addressing the challenges of the future.

International World-Class Faculty

A special feature of the GEMBA HSG programme is the opportunity to work closely with local professors at the various international locations. Participants therefore not only benefit from the scholarly and practical expertise of leading academics in their respective fields, but also gain profound insight into economies, cultures and business practices around the world. This combination of cutting-edge ideas, real-world experience and intimate local knowledge means our international team of professors is ideally qualified to support participants in developing innovative and effective business solutions and mastering the complexities of a globalized world.

INTRODUCTION TO THE GLOB AL

EXECUTIVE MB A HSG

Worldwide Alumni Network

As holders of the prestigious Global Executive MBA HSG degree, graduates enjoy the many benefits of one of the largest and most active and influential business networks in Europe, comprising 20,000 HSG and more than 2,000 EMBA HSG alumni. Recent studies have shown that a quarter of senior executives at Swiss companies were educated at the HSG, underlining the quality and success of our alumni and the outstanding reputation that both they and the University enjoy.

International Modules

The goals of our international modules are to extend and deepen participants’ understanding of both the economic environment and specific business systems in important economic markets; to provide exposure to business practices through field visits and interaction with managers operating locally; and to develop participants’ ability to assess and evaluate the business environment in unfamiliar, yet economically vital regions. The overall focus is on “Doing Business”. Participants are encouraged to take a practice-oriented, hands-on approach to experiencing and understanding new environments, and recognizing and rising to international challenges and opportunities. To this end, each module comprises a varied range of activities, including company visits, networking events, case studies and presentations by local experts.

THE PATH TO YOUR GLOB AL EXECUTIVE

MB A HSG

The Paul Merage School of Business, University of California, Irvine, Los Angeles, California

Introduction

The GEMBA HSG consists of 14 courses spread over seven modules and an integrated Personal Development Programme. In addition, participants are required to submit a Master’s thesis. Two of the modules are held on campus in St.Gallen, while the five remaining modules take participants to contrasting international locations. Each course lasts five days and runs from Monday to Friday. Overall, the programme comprises 90 days, 70 days on campus and 20 days of off-campus learning.

Business on Site

Each module on the GEMBA HSG includes a Business on Site session. These sessions, which typically last a full day, have been specially designed to give participants an introduction to the business practices of the respective country or region and

insights into the destination’s real business culture. Incorporating company visits, panel discussions and joint projects with local firms, the Business on Site sessions allow participants to apply previously acquired general management knowledge in an authentic business context.

The Business on Site sessions thus provide a real-world setting in which the concepts, frameworks and tools studied on the GEMBA HSG can be applied and tested in practice. This enables participants to develop a more profound and nuanced understanding of the disparate economies, markets and businesses around the globe. Through this insight-oriented, practical approach, the sessions both consolidate and augment the ideas generated and analyzed in the case studies, project presentations and assignments.

Master’s Thesis

To complete their studies, GEMBA HSG participants are required to write a Master’s thesis in which they address a current challenge faced by their company. Through researching and compiling the thesis, participants have the advantage that both they and their company benefit in concrete terms from the real-world value generated by the solutions presented. The thesis may be written independently or in collaboration with other members of the cohort.

Personal Development Programme

In an increasingly heterogeneous business world, sustainable success cannot be achieved through business knowledge alone: a mastery of soft skills and social and intercultural competence are also essential. To ensure GEMBA HSG graduates are equipped to meet the challenges of diverse cultures and practices, the programme features an individual career and leadership development programme.

Firstly, participants on the GEMBA HSG programme are offered a structured career development programme with access to career experts and specialists who provide individual assessment and training to support participants in defining and achieving their career goals. Secondly, the leadership development programme focuses on improving leadership, soft and social skills by offering access to individual leadership and social competence coaches. The ultimate goal is to ensure participants have the foundations necessary to become successful leadership personalities.
