EXICTING NEWS! THE FRONT RANGE NEWS IS GOING PAPERLESS! Beginning with the Fall APICS calendar year the Front Range News will be published electronically only. We will no longer be mailing hard copies of the Front Range News starting in August 2019. Our latest member survey asked how you prefer to get

environmentally friendly, allows us to provide information in a more timely fashion and allows you to access the Front Range News when and where it’s most convenient for you.

April Education News As Spring approaches, we have a full CPIM program underway. We’ve just completed the Strategic Management of Resources portion of Part 2 curriculum. Watch for the upcoming Master Planning of

Resources to begin in April followed by Detailed Planning and Scheduling then Execution and Control of Operations.

Unfortunately we were light on registrations for both the CSCP and CLTD courses. We will be offering each of these certification review courses in the fall. The full Certified in Production and Inventory

Management (CPIM) program will begin in the fall, as well.

Watch for the program schedules near the end of summer when I will be sending out details and registration information.

You’ll see the celebration picture from March’s Professional Development dinner meeting when I recognized the newest member to achieve certification this year! Congratulations, Ching Mei (May) Walker on your CPIM. We look forward to celebrating success with

our folks as they earn their certifications! When you have completed your certification, we’d love to recognize your hard work! Register and attend one of our monthly dinner meetings (September to May except December), so we can congratulate you as a

new CPIM, CSCP or CLTD certified professional. You’ll receive your lapel pin and crisp $100 reward.

Feel free to contact me if you are interested in holding private APICS Certification programs for your team at your company’s site.

“I’d like to thank Roger Harris and Honey Johnson for their outstanding effort in delivering the APICS CPIM classes.

Their presentation and materials go beyond what I would have ever received without them and definitely contributed to my

passing both Part 1 and Part 2 CPIM exams. On a final note, both Roger and Honey made the classes fun and interesting, adding much color to the class materials. Many Thanks to you both!” Jeff Lane, CPIM, Chief Information Officer, ADA Carbon

Solutions

”The APICS classes were the best way I could have studied for the CPIM testing. They were very convenient to

take while I worked, even during the busy part of the year. Eight hour classes may seem like a lot on a Saturday but the

instructors are so energetic and dedicated to you understanding the material that the time flies by. By the end of each class I had a brand new understanding of concepts I wasn’t able to grasp by just using the study material alone. One of the coolest

aspects of APICS was the community. The classroom consisted of peers from all different walks of life and job perspectives and the out of classroom activities introduced me to even more people of the APICS community.“ Aaron Littlefield,

Manufacturing Engineer, Stolle Machinery Co

"In August and September of this year I was privileged to be include in the first class for the APICS Certification in Logistics, Distribution and Transportation in Denver Colorado. This class was my introduction to this discipline. The instructors were knowledgeable, helpful and dedicated in getting the subject matter across not just to pass an exam but on how to use this information to improve a business. Even though this is the first of its kind class in Colorado and was also pretty much my introduction to Logistics, Distribution and Transportation it provided me the knowledge and insight to pass the certification exam on my first try.” Ken Fiore, CPIM, CLTD, Operations Manager, Custom Stone Etching, LLC.

What are Students saying about APICS Education in Colorado?

“While I attended APICS classes, I was quick to realize the valuable resources being introduced. As a professional in

the supply chain world, I was able to immediately apply a number of the topics presented by APICS to our day-to-day

activities. APICS has set me apart from my peers, as I am now able to present ideas and tactics that are not readily understood by everyone. I am grateful for the knowledge I have received and am excited of the possibilities going forward” Dan Clement,

CPIM, Distribution Center Manger, Brewers Supply

“This (CSCP) class and certification will be useful to me both in my current role as a production planner, as well

as in any future opportunities to increase efficiency and improve the bottom line in all aspects of supply chain!” Maelle Mann,

CSCP, Production Planner, Keysight Technologies

“By expanding my knowledge into areas where I have little experience will help turn my company into best in

class.” Trevor Daly, CSCP, Dish Network

“As a young professional looking for a way to further my career and knowledge of Supply Chain, I found these

classes from the local APICS Colorado Chapter. The instructors are very experienced in the supply chain industry and teach in a

way that makes the material easy to understand and fun to learn. The classes have helped me in my current job complete

projects with confidence. There were also great students that helped me learn from their experiences as well as build many

friendships. I would highly recommend these courses to anyone new to the supply chain industry, or even those that have been

in the industry for a while, anyone who deals with the supply chain of a company. It will help tremendously. I plan on getting

the CSCP certification in the future and will take the classes from these instructors, there’s just no other way.” Joseph

McQueen, CPIM, Sr. Supply Chain Analyst, Charter Communications

“The APICS CPIM classed taught by the APICS Colorado Chapter 81 was outstanding. The knowledge the

instructors bring to each class made understanding the material very easy. Every detail has been thought through from how

the classroom is set up to help people become engaged and to stay engaged during the class, to bringing in specific instructors who specialize in specific topics, makes this a fantastic learning environment. I believe I will have the competitive advantage

when taking what I have learned from the classes and applying it to my career.” Mike Hansen, Supply Chain Professional, Air Methods

The Membership Spotlight

This month’s Membership Spotlight is on Terri Kindsfather, CPIM, CPPO, CPPB. Terri has been an APICS member for over 37 years and is a highly valued member of our chapter. Read below to discover more about Terri!

How did you first get involved with APICS? In 1981, I accepted a position as a scheduler for a manufacturing company. My foray into the world of operations had begun. Within a week, the Kardex girl quit and I was “selected” as her replacement. In 1982, I joined APICS Colorado Chapter 81 and began taking classes. Yes, I’ve known Roger Harris for a long time! What have you found most enjoyable about being an APICS member? I’ve been in the procurement/operations management field for 38 years-19 in private sector and 19 in public sector. Achieving my CPIM was important and provided a pathway to ever increasing responsibility. In 1990, I received my B. S. in Business Administration, emphasis in Operations Management, from the University of Colorado at Denver. I also hold the CPPB (Certified Public Procurement Buyer) and CPPO (Certified Public Procurement Officer) certifications through the UPPCC. I now work in the public sector as the Purchasing/Mailroom Supervisor for the City of Lakewood. I continue to participate in APICS, ISM, RMGPA and NIGP (acronyms everywhere…) and use my knowledge of operations, supply chain and procurement every day. How do you fill your free time (hobbies, family, etc.)? My husband, Steve, and I are Master scuba divers and world travelers - around 50 countries so far. Our latest excursion was enjoying three amazing weeks exploring China and Tibet, what an experience! Our next destination is yet to be determined. (My vote is for Iceland.)

APRIL MEMBERSHIP NEWS It’s officially Spring and thank goodness, what a Winter we’ve had! As Spring begins to show its beauty, we start planning for the annual cleaning to get everything tidied up and organized for the warm months ahead.

Here are a few quick tips on tidying up your membership profile: 1. Check up on your membership renewal date – if it is within 60 days, it is time to renew 2. Update your profile – verify that your personal information and user preferences are up to date 3. Certification Maintenance – take some time to compile the certification maintenance points you’ve earned in the past year

Swisslog Tour April 18th, 2019 6:00 to 8:00 pm

11325 Main Street, Broomfield, CO 80020

You are all invited to the tour of Swisslog Healthcare. The last time APICS toured Swisslog was 2009, since then the company

has moved locations and made significant changes in technology, production and supply chain management. And they had just finished sending many of their employees through CPIM classes. They had begun to implement changes to production and

upgrading their supply chain from the lessons learned from class. Now we will get to see what a decade of applying CPIM and other APICS certifications has on an operation.

About the Event

In today’s complex marketplace, effective planning and performance metrics are critical for success. A successful S&OP process

integrates financial, marketing and operational planning to create over-arching strategic plans for the business. APICS provides

forward-looking programs that will prepare you to collaboratively participate in the S&OP process.

The APICS S&OP seminar provides managers and planners a comprehensive review of the principles and functions of S&OP.

Attendees will participate in exercises and discussions on the elements of data collection, demand and supply planning, and

conducting the pre- and executive S&OP meetings. The presenter will lead attendees through sales and marketing planning,

resource requirements planning, distribution planning and more.

Attend the APICS S&OP seminar and learn how to:

Identify the necessary inputs needed for and the outputs from the S&OP process

Calculate the data elements for the S&OP process

Utilize the S&OP planning grid

Translate what you have learned from the S&OP process into production and inventory plans

Understand the impact that S&OP output has on the distribution plan

Individuals who attend an APICS S&OP seminar will receive 7 core contact hours toward the APICS S&OP Education Certificate,

a comprehensive program that enables professionals to demonstrate their commitment to and understanding of S&OP principles

and functions. To learn more, visit apics.org/sop
