The ASCA Model
The American School Counselors Association Model is shaped around three domains:
ACADEMICWe must engage the head of a Fighting Highlander.
CAREERWe must empower the hands of a Fighting Highlander.
PERSONAL/SOCIALWe must encourage the heart of a Fighting Highlander.
The Vision for the Counseling Program is that of “Command Central”, as all academic information is in some way touched by Counseling.
Academic Domain
Counselors assess where the student was, is, and wants to be and assist the student in a successful launch toward the future.
Career Domain
The Vision for the Counseling Program is that of “North Star”.
We do not exist to tell students what to do or whom to be.
We are a quiet, firm mark upon which they may focus to get their bearings when lost.
Personal/Social Domain
The Vision for the Counseling Program is that of the “Eye of the Storm”.
Through the tumult of the teen years we are a calm center amid the chaos. We are where students feel safe and where some semblance of wisdom and control can be borrowed or recognized.
We initially provide this for them, but then teach them how to provide it for themselves.
Now that you know what we do….
…let me share how we will do it.
