A Prayer for Marian Girls, from Our Leadership The following Prayer was written by our Leadership for our Marian Girls in honor of Feast Day. On this special day, we honor Mary, our namesake, and celebrate the virtues and future of Marian Girls. This prayer embodies the potential we see in each and every Marian Girl and the reason we are here tonight. On this Day, I declare the truth of who you are.
When God breathed His life into you, He put a crown of glory and honor on your head.
This crown represents your authority.
It represents God's blessing and favor on your life.
You are a fearless woman of strength and grace.
God's precious gift to the world.
You are the answer to your grandmother's prayers.
You are the reality of your grandfather's dreaming.
You are the breath of your ancestors.
You are the spirit of God.
You are exactly the one needed to restore new passion and promise to the world.
May you live a wholehearted, courageous life that hears first God's voice both around and within you.
May you live with a trust that is deeper and stronger than fear.
May you remember the world needs your voice — your precious, unique, and beautiful voice — so speak with both confidence and humility.
May you hold your past with tenderness and your future with hope, knowing that the Lord is with you in all of it.
May you remember you are extraordinary. There is no one else like you.
Be who you were created to be and let your soul find its truth.
May your life be one of continual prayer, a path of faith, a song of love, and a story of praise for God who adores you and a world that needs you.
In all these things we pray, in Jesus Name.
Amen.

Our Foundresses
Twenty years ago, 14 courageous women of vision, religious sisters and lay women, founded Marian Middle School. At the time, nothing existed to support young girls who were falling through the cracks of the education system. In response, Marian’s foundresses boldly imagined an innovative education model to empower girls to flourish — spiritually, academically, socially, emotionally and physically. The beginnings were humble… a rented space that consisted of just one floor, four classrooms, two grades, and four staff.
During Marian Magic, we recall and honor the seven religious congregations and the 14 women who created Marian Middle School. Sr. Maureen Bannister, Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul

The Hauck Charitable Foundation The Hauck Charitable Foundation has been an incredible friend and partner to Marian Middle for over 14 years. During Marian Magic 2021, it is Marian’s great honor and privilege to acknowledge this long standing partnership, our shared impact, and the Hauck Charitable Foundation’s deep commitment to Marian Girls. As a believer in the importance of high-quality education, the Hauck Foundation has generously supported Marian Girls as they have advanced through high school and entered college through its support of Marian’s Graduate Support Program. In fact, the Hauck Foundation has provided Graduate Support funding for seven graduating classes at Marian, a total of more than 100 Marian Girls who are now creating positive change in the world. DeJa and Ro’Niyah, the featured alumnae speakers at Marian Magic 2021, are examples of the positive impact that the Hauck Foundation has supported in the lives of Marian Girls. The Hauck Foundation’s most recent contribution of a five year financial commitment to the Graduate Support Program will continue to empower Marian Girls to become future leaders. Currently, more than 208 Marian Girls have graduated high school, 45 Marian Girls are pursuing their post-secondary education at universities and colleges across the nation, and 47 Marian Girls are thriving in the workforce. The Hauck Foundation has made it possible for Marian Girls to truly bring their dreams to life.
Marian Middle School is grateful to the Hauck Charitable Foundation for its continued partnership
and the support of Marian Girls.

Through its support of Marian Middle School, the Boniface Foundation is creating a brighter, more healthy community by supporting a lifetime of success, health, and leadership for Marian Girls. Over the years, the Boniface Foundation has made major contributions to support the sustainability of Marian Middle School, as well as future graduates through the Graduate Support Program. Most recently, the Boniface Foundation intentionally invested in Marian’s future by supporting the development of Marian’s 10-year Impact Statement, which guides how Marian will accelerate impact and ensure Marian Girls continue to excel in today’s world. With the support of the Boniface Foundation, Marian Girls are thriving at colleges and universities across the nation including Washington University, Saint Louis University, Maryville University, Dillard University, Howard University, and many more. Major Milestones Over the Last 20 Years
Marian was incorporated as a nonprofit organization on December 10. The 7 founding organizations included: Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, School Sisters of Notre Dame Central Pacific Province, Sisters of Loretto/Loretto Community, Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, Sisters of the Most Precious Blood and the Ursuline Sisters of the Roman Union. Susan Rothweil was appointed as Director. On July 31, 14 fifth and sixth grade girls became Marian’s first students. Six students graduated from Marian and the Graduate Support Program was developed. Maureen Herrmann became Director and served until 2013.
During the 2005– 2006 school year, Marian began serving only sixth, seventh, and eighth grade girls.
Due to increased enrollment, Marian outgrew its former space at St. Anthony of Padua and moved to two of the Holy Family buildings in the Tower Grove South neighborhood. Marian’s first alumnae graduated from high school. Christy Leming (Toben) became principal.
Marian Girls attended Camp Sherwood Forest, and staff traveled to St. Petersburg, Florida, to convene at the National Nativity Miguel Conference.

Pearl Scheve, one of Marian’s first staff members, received an Award of Excellence. Pearl still works at Marian today, and this year, we’re celebrating her as she officially retires, and transitions to support Marian part-time. Marian reintroduced a fifth grade class because it was clear the longer a girl is at Marian, the better her academic gains. Cierra Collins, class of 2003, became the first Marian Girl to earn a post- secondary degree! Marian introduced STEM to students as a stand-alone class. In addition, Marian Middle School was presented with the Mayor’s Spirit of St. Louis Award. America’s Promise Alliance and State Farm named Marian a “Promise Place” for providing young people with caring adults, safe places, a healthy start, an effective education, and opportunities to help others. And, FOCUS St. Louis recognized Marian with the “What’s Right with the Region!” award for “creating quality educational opportunities.” Monika Harrison, class of 2003, and Deidre Chambers, class of 2005, became the first Marian Girls to graduate from four-year universities. Great Nonprofits named Marian Middle School a Top-Rated Nonprofit in 2013. In addition, Marian was honored as a Missouri School of Character in 2013 for offering “a meaningful and challenging academic curriculum that respects all learners, develops their character, and helps them to succeed.” Sister Barbara Roche, SL, served as Interim President until Marian welcomed Mary Elizabeth Grimes as president, who still leads the school today. Marian hired an alumna: Terrie Webb, class of 2005. Marian Middle School’s current principal, Sarah Walker, was honored as a Peabody Leader in Education while she was serving as both vice principal and fifth grade teacher during the 2014–2015 school year. Sarah was officially appointed principal. Alumna Paola Beltran, class of 2006, began her career as Virtual Care Business Specialist at Ascension in October. In March, Marian paid off the mortgage on its facilities. During the 2016–2017 school year, Marian began formally supporting graduates during their college years.
Major Milestones Over the Last 20 Years
The Berges Family Innovation Center opened in April. The STEM-inspired space includes a science laboratory, a maker library, a maker workshop, a multi-disciplinary learning space, and a culinary kitchen. The silent phase of the Transforming Lives, Building for Our Future Capital Campaign begins. Marian also hired Alanna Walls as College Readiness Officer in the Graduate Support Program. Alanna is one of Marian’s first students to experience the full Graduate Support Program spanning more than 12 years. During COVID-19, success continues. Beginning in the Spring of 2020, Marian began its distance learning plan, began providing virtual resources students needed to thrive, such as food, clothing, internet hot spots, and student laptops, and extended vital services like counseling, high school and college preparation, and career support for alumnae. 100% of Marian’s 8th graders and 100% of high school alumnae graduated, outpacing national standards.

Transforming Lives, Building for Our Future For 21 years, Marian has been Educating Girls for Life! We are excited to continue this legacy and announce the public phase of our $5 Million Capital Campaign — Transforming Lives, Building for Our Future. The Campaign focuses on two primary components — Capital Improvements and Marian’s Graduate Support Program.
