COSTUMES Your student will receive their costume for all dances they perform in soon. Each costume will be in a plastic bag with all accessories included. We will have markers at the front desk for you to print your student’s name on the tag inside each costume.

IMPORTANT NOTE ON COSTUMES: Do not consolidate your costumes to one bag or remove or swap out the bag we have given you. This will allow the back stage moms when they are preparing your students for the next number to keep everything organized. We will have garment racks at the recital in the dressing rooms.

FACE MAKE UP Need a few tips on how to apply your student’s makeup? A helpful video can be found on YouTube (search YouTube for “Age Appropriate Dance Makeup Looks” by Jam Sessions). Students 6 & under: They will not need to wear as dark of make up, but it is important that they have color on their lips (not just lip gloss). We suggest long lasting lip color so it does not need to be re applied.

Page 6: A STEP ABOVE’S 9th ANNUAL DANCE RECITAL · need for fake eyelashes and they may not need foundations unless they would like to, but go with colors dark enough to see and add eyeliner

FACE MAKE UP CONT. They will not need fake eyelashes or foundation, but we suggest a little eye shadow and mascara. Please note that the make up is not because we want them to look a certain way or for superficial reasons. The make up is to help you see their expression and face on the stage and in the video. Students age 7 -11: Since they are a little older they might not mind having a little more makeup and may be able to sit long enough to get It done. No need for fake eyelashes and they may not need foundations unless they would like to, but go with colors dark enough to see and add eyeliner to bring out their eyes. You want to see their features from far away. Also you want it to show up on DVD. Students 12 & up: Make up for the recital should be darker than normal every day makeup. We call it “Stage Makeup.” Please put on lots of everything: Foundation, Eye shadow, Mascara, Blush and Long Lasting Lipstick. Please choose darker colors then you would normally pick. Lips should be a dark red. Also, do a smoky eye with black eye shadow, wear black eyeliner, and fake eyelashes. If you need help you can find great makeup tutorial on YouTube. For pictures you will want to check that your foundation works well under flash photography.

2018 RECITAL PICTURES EXCITING NEWS! We’re proud to announce that we are partnering with C Marie Photography this year! ---We’ve locked in last year’s pricing for this year! ---Pictures will be available for download on August 6th ! Recital photo shoots are held during the week replacing dance classes. In order to accommodate the photo shoot, there will be no classes the week of June 4 - June 10. Please carefully review the Picture Day Schedule as you will not just be showing up at your regular class time, but assigned photo shoots for each class. Note: We do not print pictures. Instead, you will be receiving the rights to all your pictures. You will then be able to print as many as you want, in whatever sizes you desire. For each dance there will be at least 2 group shots and 2 individual shots. Individual shots will only be taken of students who purchase a package. Recital Picture Packages*: 1-2 Dances: $35 3-4 Dances: $40 5-6 Dances: $45 7 or More Dances: $50

Page 8: A STEP ABOVE’S 9th ANNUAL DANCE RECITAL · need for fake eyelashes and they may not need foundations unless they would like to, but go with colors dark enough to see and add eyeliner

2018 RECITAL PICTURES CONT. *We do offer sibling pictures. It counts as an extra dance. (Example: If you would like a sibling picture and you have two siblings in 1 dance each instead of paying for $35 for 2 dances $35 you need to pay $40 for 3 dances. The third being their sibling picture. Sibling pictures are taken in between groups. Please count up the number of dances you have as a family to find out the rate you will pay for the package. You are only allowed to combine packages with siblings, not extended family. Example: If you have two siblings that are taking 4 classes each, you will not be paying $40 for each student’s 4 dances. Instead, you will be paying $50 for the package since that totals more then 7 dances. Pictures will be taken in Studio 1, while Studio 2 will remain open for costume changes and staging. You must supervise your own student during costume changes in studio 2. Order forms need to be filled out and brought to picture day. We accept cash, check, and credit card. Payment is due on the day of your child’s scheduled time slot. Please Note: No parents will be allowed inside of studio 1 during the photo shoot. ALL Picture days will be held at A STEP ABOVE Dance Studio. Students must arrive in full costume, make up, and hair. Please arrive at least 20 minutes early. We would like to have every dancer attend picture day. If you are unable to attend picture day, please notify us via email at [email protected].

BACKSTAGE MOMS Parents play a vital role at the recital. Parents help prepare dancers for each performance by escorting them to stage from the dressing rooms and providing overall supervision of the class. We need at least 2 moms per class. If you are interested in helping with students backstage please sign up at the front desk. EXCITING NEWS! One lucky backstage mom will win free recital t ickets! ASA will enter all backstage moms into a lottery to win free tickets to one show of their choice

(up to 5 tickets). *Restrictions apply. No cash value. No physical tickets will be given out, but seats reserved for the winning backstage mom’s party. Winner will be contacted prior to the first day of ticket sales. Backstage Mom’s Responsibilities:

1. Supervise all children within the class assigned to them & keep

assigned class together at all times.

2. Backstage mom’s must stay for the entire show (start to finish).

3. Keep all children entertained with coloring books/activity books ASA

will provide in each room.

4. Make sure each child is dressed in the right costume for the right

dance (there will be costume sheets posted to help alleviate

confusion).

5. Guide the class over to the stage entrance from your room on time

(please listen to the updates on show progress from the Room

Supervisor).

6. All backstage moms need to arrive to their assigned room 45 minutes

prior to the show start time to allow parents to drop off their students.

PERFORMANCE DAY ALL performances are held at the Carlsbad Cultural Arts Center. The address is: 3557 Lancer Way Carlsbad, CA 92008-2785 The same rules apply for the performance as they applied for the dress rehearsal. -During intermission, parents of dancers 6 yrs & under will need to go backstage to help change their student’s costume for their next dance. -Please be dressed, full make-up and hair upon arrival (ready to perform). -Combo classes have one dance in the first half & second half of the show. -Label all personal belongings that you may send with your student. -Parents will NOT be allowed backstage unless they are signed up to be a backstage parent or changing their student’s costume at intermission. -All dancers must be signed-in and signed-out of the room the class is assigned to. -Do not bring any money or valuables to the theater. CCAC is not responsible for any items left or stolen. -There is NO food or gum allowed in the theater or backstage (other than bottled water). After performing, students will be taken directly back to their dressing rooms where they will wait for Curtain Call. Curtain Call is the final presentation of the show and all dancers are involved. Performers will NOT be allowed to enter the theater to watch the remainder of the show once they have performed. When your student is checked in, he/she will remain backstage with his/her class and his/her assigned backstage moms.

CAST LIST Each show is expected to run about 2 ½ hours. All Dancers will need to arrive 45 minutes before curtain call to stretch and practice for the final bow. Below we have made a list of each class and which shows they are performing in. Please look carefully to make sure you know when your child needs to come. If your child is in more than one class, please check each class for when they are performing and what dance. Special Note: Look out for the email to check the show order. We will be posting it in the lobby in the next few weeks. Please check your spelling of your dancer’s name and personally note which costume your child will need to come dressed in. This is also a good chance for older dancers in multiple dances to check and make sure there are no mistakes on back-to-back dances. If you find mistakes, or back-to-backs, please mark on the show order posted in the lobby. Show #1: Thursday at 6:30pm Show #2: Friday at 3:30pm – NEW SHOW!
