Need to boost infrastructureStudents are forced to depend on guest lecturers as they are no permanent teachers for the BSW course in Tumkuru

Though the Master of Social Work (MSW) offers a lot of career opportunities in both government and private sectors, there are few takers for the two-year course, mainly due to

lack of awareness among the students about the course !owever, the scenario has changed in the past three-four years as more and more students, especially from the rural

areas are coming forward to take up the course

Many students do not prefer to take up MSW because not much is known about it "ven the lecturers do not know about the course due to lack of information #ow, for the past

three to four years, though this trend is changing with more and more rural students taking up the course, on the other hand, very few students from urban areas prefer to study

the course

The students from the villages in Tumkuru district, especially from poor and middle class families, are taking up the course whereas the students from the rich families do not

prefer to take up the course, says the $rincipal of Sri Siddhartha %nstitute of &usiness Management Studies, 'r avi umar

The reason behind students from poor and middle class families opting for the course is the fact that the fee is less when compared to other post-graduate courses and soon after

the completion of the course, they get *obs and will be able to support their families financially

MSW course is like a *ob-oriented course where there is a guarantee of getting a *ob More stress is laid on field work in MSW course ural students easily mingle with the

people and have better knowledge about the community

candidates who become lecturers !ence the students, even after completion of MSW, fail to ac=uire good skills and knowledge in social work due to the lack of good and

The government must take steps to recruit lecturers and provide other basic infrastructure to the colleges and post graduate centres 0niversities must conduct orientation

programmes and workshops for the guest lecturers, he said

Mr Mohan says that the State government?s move to recruit ;@ lecturers to teach &SW in the first grade colleges of the State in A/:B will definitely attract more and more

students towards MSW due to the increase in *ob opportunities
