A SIMPLE SOCIAL MEDIA PLAN FOR YOUR BUSINESS
Allison C. Shields
SOCIAL MEDIA DOESN’T HAVE TO BE DIFFICULT
There’s no “one size fits all” solution, but the following plan can be expanded or contracted depending on your time commitment.
First, choose only one or two platforms that make the most sense for you, the services you provide, and your target market.
Then follow these simple steps.
DAILY 15-20 Minutes
10 MINUTES
Review updates from your network on your chosen platforms. Look for:
Discussions to contribute to
Questions to answer
Posts from your network to like or comment on
5 MINUTES
Respond to mentions, retweets, and comments from others on your posts.
AS NEEDED
Add to your ‘social media file’ as you come across items during your day that spark ideas for blog posts or social media updates;
Tag interesting articles with Evernote, Microsoft One Note or similar services.
WEEKLY 35 Minutes
15 MINUTES
Look through email newsletters, news sources, blogs and feeds for interesting news, articles, images, videos and links to share with your audience.
15 MINUTES
Use a program like Hootsuite(www.hootsuite.com) to schedule all of your posts for the week across platforms based on your goals, audience and message for each platform using what you’ve gathered.
Schedule posts throughout the day – not everyone uses social media at the same time of day.
5 MINUTES
Review and accept connections and friend requests
View and follow new followers
Send invitations to new friends or contacts
MONTHLY 30 Minutes
20 MINUTES
Review work you’ve done. Look for:Work that can be re-purposed into blog posts or social media updates
Client problems you’ve solved that could apply to others
Success stories you’d like to share
News items that impact on your community or practice area
10 MINUTES
Review analytics to find out which posts were the most effective.
THERE YOU HAVE IT…
A simple social media plan in less than 1 hour and 30 minutes per month.*
*Of course, if you want to create your own content for posting on social media platforms, you’ll also need to devote regular time to content creation. This investment of time may vary, depending on the length and type of content you create.
**But remember…you can participate well on social media without creating your own content, too!
