Have you ever seen that nice pair of dress shoes on the shelf and wondered you can carry them?
Yeah for many people, dress shoes, are dressy. They are mainly for formal occasions. They have to be worn withsuits. Blah blah blah…But is that true?
Not necessary.
But before we go on, we must make it clear that we are no hard-core purist in styling.
Dress shoes are good for both formal and casual occasions. While they go perfectly well with your suits and dresspants, they are also a great match with a button-down shirt and jeans. Though a dress shirt is probably the safestoption, one can actually wear his dress shoes with just about everything from T-shirts with khaki to even an outdoorparka with shorts!
The general rules of thumb are:
1. Dress shoes with sleeker design are generally more formal than those with heavier construction.
2. The darker the colour, the more formal the shoes.
3. Lace-up ranks over the slip-ons in terms of formality.
This brings us to the various types of shoes, which is also the main purpose of this post. Dress shoes can be roughlydivided into three categories – Oxfords, Derbys and Loafers. The difference in constructions often determine theformality of your shoes, with former most formal and the latter least formal.
First of all, Oxford is one of the most classic and popular styles of shoes. Getting its name from the famous university,the Oxford has a sleek closed-lacing design and is commonly seen as the most formal in the spectrum. They are

most appropriate for a suit and dress pants, or with a pair of dark jeans for a more casual touch.
Close-lacing is characterized by its lace system being stitched under the vamp.
Loake Oxford
If one is looking for something for day-to-day wear, Derbys, also known as Bluchers, may be your shoes of choice.With its root as sporting and hunting boots, the shoes have an open lacing system, giving it a more rugged look thanthe Oxford. Great with a pair chinos or jeans!

Tired of tying shoelaces? Try loafers. Intended as a house slipper made for King George VI of England, the loafersare characterized by its slip-on styling. The comfy slip-ons are best for more casual occasions such as travel, whereone can wear them with a chino or even shorts.
Common variations include Tassel Loafers, Bit Loafers and Penny loafers.

On more formal end, there are Monkstrap loafers, which fall somewhere in between Oxfords and Derbys in terms offormality. Originally worn by monks, the shoe is most recognizable with the wide strap across the front in place ofeyelets. While they go well with denims, a pair of monkstrap with fine leather will add a bit of style to business wearespecially when paired with an odd jacket and trousers.

首先，Oxford可算是最經典和流行的鞋款。因著名的牛津大學而得名，Oxford獨特之處在於其簡約的隱藏鞋帶組設計，通常被視為最正式的鞋款。他們是最合適與西裝西褲同著，或想相對休閒一點可以配上一條深色牛仔褲。
