St. Peter’s Parish is once again continuing its participation in the Archdiocesan effort to strengthen

parishes and deepen our knowledge of our faith through the program offered by Renew International. Four

years ago Cardinal Sean O’Malley invited all the parishes of the Archdiocese to consider participating in

Arise. Now the Cardinal is encouraging us to continue participating in the “Why Catholic?” program. The

next theme is “Sacraments” Most of the Arise groups are enthusiastically planning to continue. Fr. Steve is

seeking new leaders and new members as well as new groups for “Why Catholic?” If you and/or your

friends are interested in organizing a group please contact either Fr. Steve (617-268-0353) or Aldona

Lingertaitiene ([email protected]). More information will be available soon.

Daugiau informacijos bus pateikta netolimoje ateityje.

    Franciscan Fathers from Kennebunkport, ME

Please join us for lunch afterwards

Dear parishioner and Extended Family Members of St. Peter Lithuanian Parish,

Garbė Jėzui Kristui! Praised be Jesus Christ!!

In October, our parish was given a glimpse into the future. I received a phone call from the Clergy Personnel

Office asking if I would be “Temporary Administrator” of St. Ann Parish, Dorchester. It was explained to me

that the Cardinal needed me to do this since there were no other priests available. I agreed to accept the

Cardinal’s request. I think it was very apparent from the letter I read from the pulpit on Veterans’ Day

Weekend that the Cardinal not only appreciated my sacrifice on behalf of the good people of St. Ann Parish,

but yours as well, as I assumed that duty for a month and a half. I appreciate the flexibility shown by you, the

parishioners, especially by those who attend daily Mass. This request will come to an end December 1.

I do not expect this to be an isolated case. Because the Lithuanian Community of Greater Boston is rather

small and chooses not to place much demand on the parish, I will be viewed as a priest with more availability

than others. Because the number of priests available for parish ministry continues to decline, this is a natural

conclusion. Please know that I will always serve you, the Lithuanian Community, in my priesthood. However,

because of the increased demands made on priests, you will not always have me strictly to yourselves. There

are fewer and fewer parishes in the Archdiocese making exclusive claims on the priests assigned to them. I ask

to please pray for priests as they face increasing demands as well as for an increase of vocations to the

priesthood and religious life. (Perhaps you know someone in the community who is a good candidate for the

    priesthood or religious life!)

As we find ourselves preparing for the holiest night on the Lithuanian calendar, Kučios (Christmas Eve), may

God bless you and your loved ones as we cry out “Come, Lord Jesus!” during this blessed Advent season.

    Jūsų Kristuje (Yours in Christ),

    Fr. Steve Zukas
