TAKING CARE OF THE ENVIRONMENT THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE PROCESS

Our most important environmental aspect is the dis-charge of wastewater from the net washing process. All our washing- and cleaning- facilities are built on a high-tech cleaning process provided by a German supplier. Continuous focus on wastewater treatment for several years has given us good control on the discharge process. The copper ratio in the wastewater from our facilities is kept lower than the mandatory limits set by the authorities. Besides lower copper ratio, we also monitor and make sure that the discharge is free of pathogens.

We have a well-established system for discarding nets. A large portion of our nets consists of nylon material. Nylon is a high recycling rated material and can be used for the manufacturing of clothes amongst other things.

Egersund Net's processing plant for the final treatment, and the corresponding outdoor areas are designed to ensure that all liquids are collected into a closed system should any incidents occur. The liquids may then be pumped into approved containers for further proces-sing and cleaning. In addition, several other measures have been introduced in order to reduce the risk of emissions to the external environment. The treatment process is performed in an indoor plant.

One of our main objectives is to contribute to the reduction of our customer’s environmental footprints.

Sludge waste may contain a great dealof copper that we recycle.

Excess heat from the drying process is re-used for heating of premises.

Wastewater is free of pathogens and cleaner than set by the autho-rities.

Nylon is recycled and new nylon filaments are used for the production of clothes and carpets, among other things.

All organic waste is sent to an approved incineration plant.

"HIGH QUALITYNETTING"

We have a high focus on continuity and efficiency throughout the whole manufacturing process, from the manufacturers of the filaments to the end product. We have full traceability in our production process.

Egersund Net uses filaments from reputable European suppliers. Long-term cooperation with suppliers ensures the best technical solutions.

We deliver superknot, hexagonal netting, standard knotless netting as well as a variety of knotted netting. Our netting is manufactured of Nylon P6 or DyneemaTM filaments.

Our netting is manufactured with a meshwidth of 1008 meshes, and we are able to produce netting with a breaking strength from 36kg up to 191kg in nylon, and up to 220kg in DyneemaTM.

Our highly qualified employees have been with us for many years, gathering a great deal of experience, competence and understanding of product characteristics.

NET DESIGN

Development and testing has resulted in a net with characteristics such as reduced abrasion, giving less risk of escapes. Our solutions includes attachment loops with user-friendly design. All attachment loops are plastic covered using color codes in order to ensure safe handling.

Proper elongation allows the structure to move in line with the forces of nature. This will also improve the welfare of the farmed fish, and reduce chafing from cage and netting.

We focus on quality. An important area is optimization and customizing net design.

Testing in a flume tank shows that coned netsretain their shape very well when used on high energy sites.

CONED NETS

The design makes operations easier, improves safety and can be cost-efficient. More than 40 years of experience is the basis of these innovative solutions.

A cone- shaped structure with single weight system can be delivered with a circumference up to 200 m and above.

Egersund Net circle coned net (ENCC) has been supplied for a number of years, with exceptional feedback from our customers. On the basis of this concept, we have developed an alternative net-design (ENCA), also equipped with center weight.

Both designs retain their volume and shape even when deployed at exposed locations.

The system has been carefully tested and documented.

STRAIGHT-WALL CIRCULAR NET

The volume of this design can easily be adjusted in a simple manner by varying the wall depth, the use of horizontal ropes and by "drying" the net.

The structure is very flexible. It can be used regardless of the local water depth and with various weight systems.

The ENC design has been thoroughly tested in both the SINTEF flume tank (Hirtshals, Denmark) and in full scale. In cooperation with several customers, we have accumulated solid experi-ence, competence and documentation related to this design.

All circular designs can be adapted to sinker tubes or single weights.

NETS FOR SQUARE CAGES

Egersund Net supplies rectangular as well as square solutions for steel-based installations. The structures are custom-made in accordance with individual requirements and installation.

We design smart solutions for net walls as well as net bottoms. Nets adapted to steel-based instal-lations can be delivered in the form of straight-walled, coned or pointed designs. The bottom of the net can be of a sloping or non-sloping design.

EN TUBENET

Following successful small-scale testing at the Institute of Marine Research and large- scale testing by fish farmers, Egersund Net received a patent for the Tubenet in 2014. In the same year, we also received the recog-nized GSM Innovation Award at the Aqua Vision conference.

The final product is a safe and functional technical solution, reducing attachment of sea lice and preventing escape. When deployed at the proper time, it can reduce cost, due to less or no need for lice removals. In addition, any holes in the upper part of the net caused by flotsam or vessels will not be a concern, as the fish is enclosed at the deeper part of the net.

The concept will also provide the fish farming industry with a new tool for AGD treatment, using freshwater. Resulting in reduction of chemicals used and reduction of stress on the fish.

A smaller buoyant pen is installed and moored inside the main pen. Attached to the inner pen, a tube made of tarpaulin is extended down to a specified depth. A roof of netting is extracted from the baseline of the tube horizontally to the wall of the outer net.

By submerging the salmon it will stay below the critical depth in which the sea lice thrives. The salmon is given access to the surface by entering the tube. The tube creates a sea lice-free zone.

The EN Tubenet concept may be integrated in new as well as existing installations.

A fully integrated concept to reduce the attachment of sea lice. The solution provides the best possible conditions for growth, regarding good oxygen supply and optimal animal welfare. The development of the EN Tubenet started in 2011.

The new tubenet will reduce the occurrenceof lice in the fish farm.

The tubenet also facilitates AGD treatmentby using freshwater.

TOP NETS, SWEEP NETS AND MORT COLLECTORS Top netsThere are several designs of top nets made from various materials. The nets are adapted to the different types of pens, and can be supplied for center support, hamster wheels and topnet poles. Topnets for smaller designs with no center- support located in the center are also available.

SweepnetSweepnets are supplied for a number of different purposes. An ordinary sweepnet is installed in order to encircle a large amount of fish to allow quick and efficient pumping of fish into the well boat. Sweepnets for sampling of fish are also available. The sweepnets are installed to fit the circumference and depth of each net

Mort collectorA mort collector is a tool for collecting and remo-val of morts. The operation involves minor risk of damaging the net. Egersund Net has a solid expe-rience with the production of mort collectors. The collectors are manufactured with a circumference of 1 and 1.5 meters, and can be supplied with a single or double ring.

PROFESSIONAL SERVICESKILLED EMPLOYEES Our customers can rely on Egersund Net to supply the best possible service on their nets and equipment throughout the lifespan of the products. All service of nets done by our employees as well as service history is available in our Net-reg equipment database.

TREATMENT OF NETS - COATING AND ANTIFOULING

We focus on quality during the entire process,dipping, drying as well as net handling.

Egersund Net has developed an indoor treatment facility for nets. Our net treatment facilities ensure identical conditions throughout the year and has a high level of efficiency.

We put a great deal of emphasis on the safety of operations during the production process. When the net has been suspended and is ready for treatment, dipping, drying and packing is executed in a single operation. This reduces the risk of damage being caused to the net.

However, the most important thing is that the result from the treatment of a net will be optimal. We do this by impregnating the nets by a process based on dipping, to ensure that the absorbsion of coating or antifouling is optimal.

We are currently offering coating and antifouling products from NetKem, Steen-Hansen and Brynsløkken.

Our employees exchange information on a continuous basis, and are working in accordance with "best practice" philosophy. Egersund Net is recognized for its skillful and professional employees. This is one of the reasons our customers can rely on us.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

Our solutions must be safe on behalf of the customer, and we invest considerable resources on verification of new solutions, often in cooperation with the customer, research institutions and other cooperating partners.

In addition, we maintain emphasis on simplifying operations. We are working on continuous product development within a number of areas, as well as testing of various designs in cooperation with our customers.

Testing of materialsOur laboratory is equipped with advanced techno-logical equipment for verifying the characteristics of ropes and other materials. All components are carefully tested and documented before being implemented in any of our products.

Testing of modelsEgersund Net invests major resources in product development and testing of models in cooperation with our customers. A test tank belonging to SINTEF Fisheries and Aquaculture is often used in order to improve our knowledge about various designs. The test tank allows simulation of various currents and wave conditions.

We are continuously engaged in research and development activities, emphasizing improvement and innovation. We intend to reduce the risk of escapes, reduce the risk of disease, and optimize handling and operation.

The test tank is also used in cooperation with customers in order to solve challenges related to local operation and the preparation of new working procedures.

Detailed small-scale models of net designs are used for testing.

The Net-reg database for documentation of nets, pens and anchoring components has been developed by Egersund Net.

We provide documentation and certification for the entire production process.

The important thing is to supply products capable of working in line with the forces of nature.

Our products are manufactured in accordance with detailed drawings and precise documen-tation. When our salesforce and operation managers in cooperation with customers agree on a net design, the details are transferred to the drawing table. At this stage, the net will be designed in details. Egersund Net utilizes external competence in order to verify nets of dimension class 0 pursuant to NS9415. Environmental data from the customer's location in combination with our technical drawings constitute the basis for model testing and simulation of defined forces. Following a thorough simulation program, complete documentation is then prepared.

We prepare detailed production descriptions to make sure customers will receive the product according to specified requirements.

All documentation for every design is updated in our Net-reg database. The use of Net-reg also implies full traceability for all raw materials used for the product.

The Net-reg database has matured into a highly suitable system for our customers. All product documentation for the entire fish farming installation can be stored and maintained here, including information about barges, moorings, pens and nets.

"User friendliness" is often mentioned by customers describing the system. The Net-reg database is continuously improved, in cooperation with our clients and in line with the most recent technologies for optimizing user friendliness. Net-reg is currently available in two language versions (Norwegian and English).
