MINISTRY TO THE SICK & HOMEBOUND Call the parish office to make arrangements to administer this sacrament for one who is sick or homebound or in the hospital. The Parish Priests visit the sick & homebound and administer the Holy Eucharist, the Sacrament of Reconciliation and the sacrament of the sick on the First Friday of the month. Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist bring Holy Commun-ion to the sick and homebound on weekends.

MARRIAGE MATRIMONIO Call the parish office and make an appointment with one of the parish priests for the required preparations and to set the wed-ding date. Ordinarily preparations will take at least six months.

QUINCEAÑERAS Call one of the parish priests to make an appointment to set the quinceañera date. The quinceañera is expected to have received all three Sacraments of initiation. Baptism, Holy Communion and Confirmation. The family is expected to be registered and worship in the parish. Preparations will take at least six months.

SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME 16TH OF FEBRUARY 2014

FROM THE DESK OF THE PASTOR:

We listen to the words of the first reading: ‘we have life and death’ before us. Faced with such an option obviously we would choose life over death. This ap-pears to be the most sensible thing to do. However, when we recognize that it is in our personal choices, in our day to day living out our lives, that we make all the difference; then, it dawns on us that we might do well to examine our lives and make right choices. Our Lord talks about these choices. He tells us that our virtue must go deeper than that of the scribes and Pharisees of his day. What we say and what we do ex-presses what is in our hearts. When we have anger, lust, hatred, jealousy, revenge in our hearts ….. then we clearly have some serious thinking to do! When our ‘yes’ means ‘yes’ and ‘no’ means ‘no’ we have the choice – between life and death. This life or death refers to one’s inner life, that life with God. We have a choice; we are free to choose life or death for eternity.

ARCHBISHOP’S ANNUAL APPEAL OF 2014 Each year our Archbishop requests our help to support him to operate the central Archdiocesan offices in order to coordinate and administrate resources for various par-ishes in the Archdiocese. Reflexiones del Párroco:

Escuchamos las palabras de la pri-mera lectura: 'tenemos la vida y la muerte' ante nosotros. Enfrentados con dicha opción obviamente esco-geríamos la vida sobre la muerte. Es-to parece ser lo más sensato. Sin embargo, cuando reconocemos que está en nues-tras decisiones personales, en nuestro día a día viviendo nuestras vidas, que hacemos toda la diferencia, enton-ces, es que amanece sobre nosotros la examinación de nuestras vidas y tomamos las decisiones correctas. Nuestro Señor habla sobre estas opciones. Él nos dice que nuestra virtud debe ir más allá de la de los escribas y Fariseos de Su época. Lo que decimos y lo que hace-mos expresa lo que está en nuestros corazones. Cuando tenemos ira, lujuria, odio, celo, venganza en nuestros corazones... entonces claramente tenemos que pensar muy seriamente! Cuando nuestro 'sí' significa 'sí' y 'no' significa 'no' tenemos la opción – entre la vida y la muer-te. Esta vida o muerte se refiere a la vida interior, esa vida con Dios. Tenemos la opción; somos libres de elegir la vida o la muerte por toda la eternidad.
