The beautiful water planet of Laern, located in the southern

sector of Segmentum Tempestus is a jewel in the dark void

of space, a treasure much envied by the Imperium of man.

The Laer are an ancient species, pre-dating the vast and

mighty Imperium of man.

They are a serpentine race, devoting their lives to the

worship of pleasure in their vast, floating atoll cathedrals.

Their physical appearance changes drastically depending

upon their role in Laerian society and their warriors are

some of the most adept the Imperium have ever

encountered.

First identified on their home world of Laern by the

Emperor’s Children, the Laer have similar societies

throughout the galaxy.

Sslyth’laer-une are the ruling elite of the Laer race. They devote

their time to practicing ancient rites in order to please their

heathen gods. Many of these shamans have sway over

the general populous of Laer and each shaman is the

focal point for one of the many cults of pleasure.

Although principally interested in the more hedonistic

pursuits many of the Sslyth’laer-une take to the field

of battle with many of the Sslyth’laer-ettes from their

respective pleasure cults, each shaman brandishing

an object of power with blessings from the gods

bestowed upon them.

The Sslyth’laer-une are sometimes accompanied in

to battle by the mighty Sslyth, elite warriors who

dedicated their existences to the exploration of

pleasure through pain and martial prowess.

Special Rules: Soprific Musk The pleasure cults of Laern provide all manner of exotic and clandestine unguents for affecting both the Laer, and in military conflicts, their enemies. These intoxicating balms of unknown origin have a subtle effect on enemy combatants, confusing their minds and making their limbs slow and heavy. This special rule grants the model the Hit & Run special rule. Transfixing Gaze The augmetics and psychic surgeries of the Laer mean that they can expertly manipulate their natural abilities to devastating effect. The shaman of the Laer have developed a procedure which enables them to transfix their enemy with their multifaceted eyes, luring the enemy into a trace which stops them bringing their weapons to bear. This special rule allows the player to force one enemy model in base contact with the shaman to lose an Attack in close combat.

Sslyth’laer-eshh are the militaristic cultists of Laern’s pleasure cults.

Each cluster of the great atoll tribes provides home to a form of the

cult of pleasure. The cultists forgo the more martial upgrades

favoured by the Sslyth of Laern and instead turn to psycho-motor

surgery, enhancing their ability to experience every sensation –

even that of death. Many of the Laern pleasure cults cease to exist

at ceremonies called Slann-mak’etteshh; a mass of writhing bodies

in an act of self destruction dedicating their existence to one of the

sacred artifacts of Laern culture.

Usually when pressed in to service as warriors the Laer-eshh

undergo minor cosmetic surgery, transforming their normal ruddy

colouring in to a riot of colour in order to mimic the stature of one of

the Laerian shamans. This is further enhanced by silver piercings

and body adornments, a tribute to their Heathen gods.

Special Rules: Pleasure Through Pain

The pleasure cults of Laern and her offspring worlds are renowned for their use of psychic ritual to induce

altered states in both the civilian and military elements of Laerian society This usual takes the form of

extreme states of euphoria derived from any form of physical stimuli, particularly with the application of pain.

In battle this can be used to devastating effect on the enemies of the Laer.

Every time three unsaved wounds are inflicted on the unit roll a D6 on the table below at the end of each

player turn.

Sslyth-Morae are the warriors utilised by the Laer when the oceanic

defences of their home world are breached or it is necessary to

attack a rival cult. The Sslyth-Morae posses the same speed, agility

and fearlessness of all Sslyth, however they have undergone

adaptive surgery to make them more effective in Laer’s vast

oceans, this proves a slight dis-advantage to them when

faced with land combat however in these circumstances

they are always supported by other more specialist warriors.

Each warrior is armed with segmented claws, which prove

far more effective under water than the usual Laerian

scythe blades. Each warrior is also armed with a powerful

harpoon like tail, which is more than capable of punching

through Astartes battle plate. The Sslyth-Morae utilise sonic

weaponry which literally turns the water around an enemy into a

weapon, but has also proved very effective in land combat against

Imperial forces of the Great Crusade.

Sslyth-Kon’da means ‘warrior of the ground’ in the native

dialect of Laern. Each warrior on Laern is biologically or

mechanically enhanced to fufill a particular martial

role. The Sslyth-Kon’da are the main stay of the

Laern military, their scythed blades and energy

gauntlets enabling them to meet enemies at close

and ranged quarters, giving them a tactical

advantage over most enemies.

The Sslyth-Kon’da number in their thousands

across Laern, however each atol community

maintains a garrison of these forces within mighty

bastions of coral from where they can meet

any incursion by an invader or would be usurper.

Fak’um refers to the use of technology or construction in the Laerian tongue. The Sslyth-Fak’um are

powerful constructs of shining silver, many have adornments by the pleasure cults as offerings to

the powerful gods they worship, offering the construct even more battle field prowess. The

constructs take the form of giant serpents, constructed from the same metals as the armour of the

Sslyth; each construct cradles the form of a Sslyth pilot akin to a parasite, psychically attuned to

their machine by a telepathic link similar in design to the mighty battle titans employed by the

Collegia Titanica. The mighty machines writhe forward on mighty metallic scales to deliver death to

the enemies of the Laer.

Each construct is a masterful artifice in it’s own right and as such each Sslyth-Fak’um will enter

battle armed in a unique way, either tearing through enemy ranks with mighty versions of the

Laerian power scythe, blasting apart unfortunate individuals with their sonic disruptors or turning

armour to dripping gobs of metal with their energy gauntlets.

Special Rules: Fire Control The constructs of the Sslyth-Fak’um are adept at reading the particular needs of the Laer on a battlefield, with extremely advanced sensor arrays they can communicate as a group, feeding valuable targeting information between each other: The ability can be used when the enemy fires it’s weapons, each Sslyth-Fak’um in the unit may target a different enemy unit in the shooting phase.

The compliance of 4716 was a brutal affair, where the Scions of

the Storm were eventually overwhelmed by the Word Bearers

legion under the command of their Primarch Lorgar Aurellian.

The world, referred to as Ishkur by its natives, is a paradise

world, with far reaching and verdant forests, snow-capped

peaks of natural beauty and vast cities constructed from

serpentine streets with structures made from glittering

twisted glass.

The people of Ishkur reside within these cities of great

beauty protected by the artificials they have created to

defend their worlds. These artificials range in size from the

smaller dreadnought sized constructs to the large

‘Obsidians’ who tower over most foes.

The cities of Ishkur are also defended by the grey uniform clad

militia, armed with bolt carbines and by automated defence

towers capable of destroying even a mighty Stormbird.

Commanders of the Storm Scion Militia are hardened

veterans of a hundred or more wars spanning across

the know galaxy.

Originally when the settlers of Ishkur descended upon

the world the militia was formed as a home guard to

police the installation of shelters and the movement of

supplies around the encampments. Now the militia is

an army of great force, utilising equipment and

weapons patterns brought with them across the stars

from their ancient home world.

The commanders of the militia inspire and galvanise

the troops appointed to their command, ensuring

victory through determination and stalwart unity.

Principally the Storm Elders form a council of

governance on Ishkur and allow the populous to live in

an organised and conflict free society.

Although not a military division the council of Elders

orchestrates Ishkur’s defences and consequently have

key tactical attributes they can bring to a conflict.

The Elders form a central point of Ishkur’s defence,

calming and re-assuring the populous in similar ways

to the Imperial Creeds Iterators.

In combat the Elders offer strategic advantage to both

the militia and the artificials, their tactical awareness

and wisdom brought to the battlefield in order to better

serve their fellow man.

Only encountered on rare occasions, the Artificial

Kings of 4716 bear some physical resemblance to the

cohort they control.

Marching forth on three multi-jointed legs these

abominations lay to waste all those who oppose the

might of Ishkur’s defences.

The Kings form a central point of any large unit of

artificials deployed as a defence force by the planetary

militia. The Artificial Kings are armed with combat

blades instead of the deadly lightning arc arrays and

arms of other artificials, this makes them even more of

a threat in close combat when combined with their

deadly maw dischargers.

The A.I constructs of the Storm Scions are beautifully crafted

from a living glass polymer, giving them structural resilience

and the aesthetic appearance of a sculpture brought to life.

The ‘Arc’ warriors are a specialised form of AI warrior; they

employ the manoeuvrability of all the tri-legged constructs

such as the ‘King’ and ‘Maw’ variants but also boast an anti-

armour weapon potent enough to make a mockery of most

Adeptus Astartes battle tanks.

The Electro-arc Array employed by the ‘Arc’ warriors utilises

the kinetic energy from their mobility platforms and converts

this into electricity, this electricity is then discharged once the

construct completes the circuit using the two conductor rods

that are in place of arms.

from a living glass polymer, giving them structural resilience

and the aesthetic appearance of a sculpture brought to life.

The ‘Maw’ warriors are a specialised form of AI warrior; they

employ the manoeuvrability of all the tri-legged constructs

such as the ‘King’ and ‘Arc’ variants but also boast an anti-

infantry weapon. The weapon of the ‘Maw’ warrior uses

similar technology to the ‘Arc’ warriors but is principally

designed to cause as much damage to flesh and armour as

possible.

The Maw Discharger employed by the ‘Maw’ warriors utilises

the kinetic energy from their mobility platforms and converts

this into electricity, this electricity is then discharged from the

‘mouth’ of the construct, bathing the target in deadly

electricity.

4716. Their weapons, although primitive, provide

excellent covering fire for the more resilient units in the

Ishkur armed forces.

helm, similar to the sensor arrays employed by the

Sslyth means warrior or soldier in the language of

Laern, simply the Sslyth are the warrior elite of all clans

of Laern. As each warrior on Laern is biologically or

mechanically enhanced the mighty Sslyth are the

pinnacle of this technology, their martial prowess is

only matched by their strength and agility. Their

muscular thorax holds many biological enhancements

which augment their strength and speed to near

superhuman levels.

The Sslyth will sometimes accompany a Sslyth’laer-

une in to battle however it is not uncommon for these

prestigious warriors to command the Laerian forces

The Obsidians were originally encountered by the Divisio Cybernetica of the Adeptus

Mechanicum and bike squadrons of the Wordbearers Legion of Space Marines.

These hulking A.I constructs dwarf even the mighty robots of the Adeptus Mechanicus,

looming over enemies like walking testaments to the Storm God himself.

Two storeys tall, the Obsidians of Ishkur destroy their enemies with gouts of electricity from

their black featureless skulls or rend their armour with gleaming electro glaives. The

Obsidians have a speed which belies their bulk and they move with a speed difficultly

matched by most mobile units. Using their insect like legs they can traverse even the most

difficult of terrain with relative ease.

The Nephilim are a sentient and powerful species

well known for their parasitic social order.

During the Great Crusade many settlements of

Nephilim were discovered and destroyed by the

White Scars Legion, the Blood Angels and the Luna

Wolves.

These giant warriors infect the populous of a planet,

planting notions of idolatry and worship into the

collective consciousness of the native people. Once

entrenched the Nephilim begin to feed from the life

forces of those they have enslaved, drawing upon

their devotion in order to syphon off their energy.

Many planets have been razed in this manner,

notably the planet Melchior.

The Nephilim hosts are orchestrated by the powerful beings known as the Nephilim Cinereo.

These giant xenos creatures, grey in colour, are the ‘captains’ of the Nephilim. Dubbed as ‘Greys’

by Imperial forces, these immense creatures over shadow even the mightiest of the Legio Astartes

Primarchs.

In battle the Greys surround themselves with lesser creatures, be it a group of Seraphicus, a

congregation of Famulus or a shock of blue Hyacintho, communicating and organising them via sub

dermal electro-magnetic signals via photophors in their skin.

They are also adept at communicating with humans by mimicking their speech by creating an

external, ethereal tympanic membrane of air via technologies submerged in their flesh. This ability

can be turned in to a weapon, capable of splitting Astartes battle plate with ease.

Special Rules: Will of the Empath The ‘Greys’ of the Nephilim possess the unique ability of remotely controlling the minds of weaker individuals from a distance, making them an even more dangerous adversary than other Nephilim: The ability can be used when the enemy fires it’s weapons, pick an enemy unit that is visible to the Cinereo and is about to fire. If the unit is found to be within 24” of the Cinereo, it is affected by the ability. The unit may choose to hold its fire, and just stand around confused without moving. It may instead choose to open fire anyway, trying to break the empath’s mind lock. In this case, the unit must take a leadership test (vehicles are affected too, but count as Ld 10). If the test is passed, the unit breaks the control of the Nephilim and may fire as normal. If the test is failed, the unit must immediately fire all of its weapons against a friendly unit, chosen by the Cinereo among any of the enemies he can see. If there are no viable targets the enemy unit which failed the test will simply stand around confused as described above. Soul Syphon The ability to feed on the life force of another creature is paramount to the survival of the Nephilim. Usually this feeding is done via ritual sacrifice in one of the many empath-chapels erected by their followers. In dire circumstances the most powerful of the Nephilim can drain life renewing energy from their followers in order to survive even a mortal wound. At the end of a turn where a Cinereo has lost its final wound it may sacrifice D3+1 friendly models within a 6” radius of the Cinereo to replace a wound. This may be attempted every time the Cinereo is reduced to 0 wounds. If there are no viable models within the 6” radius, the Cinereo is removed as a casualty as normal.

The Nephilim follow a similar military organisation to the Imperium of

Man, the Hyacintho or ‘Blues’ act as the shock troops of the Nephilim

attack force.

Relying on their preternatural strength and speed, these blue giants

lead the Nephilim assault from the front, smashing in to enemy

ranks and turning aside their counter attacks.

The Hyacintho have the same physical characteristics

as the other forms of Nephilim, large domed heads which

emerged from their bodies without the support of a neck,

their ‘faces’ lined with olfactory slits and a row of

eye-spots. These physical attributes give them a full

awareness of their environment, and in some cases

this gives them a battlefield advantage, allowing

them to adapt very quickly to changing conditions

in a fight.

The vast swathes of the Nephilim host are constructed from the

controlled native PDF forces.

Many of these soldiers have pledged their allegiance to the Nephilim

as their Gods and believe that by fighting for them they will be

granted eternal peace and salvation. The Seraphicus are controlled

by a neural link established by wearing a flesh mask taken from one

of the Nephilim Viridi, these masks allow the Nephilim to control the

actions of their human subordinates.

In battle the Seraphics wear improvised armour and use appropriated

weaponry from established Imperial forces and as such it is not

uncommon to see platoon sized formations of Seraphics wearing flak

armour and armed with assorted automatic or las weaponry. The

sheer volume of them poses the biggest threat to opposing forces as

the Nephilim use these unsuspecting humans as both their

nourishment and their protectors.

The giant forms of the Nephilim are usually shrouded by the Famulus. A teeming throng of human

prisoners and slaves pressed in to service as human shields for their erstwhile masters.

Many conflicts have been won by these damned souls, where imperial commanders have faltered in

their resolve due to their reluctance to inflict casualties on the enslaved masses.

In battle the Famulus offer nothing more than the desperation of the condemned, hurling

themselves against their would be liberators out of sheer desperation, clawing and biting, the

confusion of battle adding to their already degenerated state of mind.

Special Rule: Panic The Famulus are dominated by the will of the Nephilim, when panicked they revert to a base instinct. All unengaged Famulus units that are not falling back or have gone to ground must take a leadership test at the beginning of their movement phase:

If the test is passed the unit acts normally that turn.

If the test is failed the unit reverts to baser instincts and will either Fight or Flight. Roll a D6 A roll of 1-3 means the unit will Fight and a on a roll of 4-6 the unit will Flight. Fight – The enslaved humans see that their only hope of survival is to fight their way through the enemy in order to escape. The unit gains Furious Charge and must attempt to engage the closest enemy unit in close combat. Flight – The prisoners of the Nephilim believe their only salvation to be in the arms of their beloved gods. The unit gains the Shrouded special rule; further more they must move towards the nearest Nephilim Cinereo, if there is no Nephilim Cinereo on the battlefield they must instead move towards the closest piece of area terrain.

Nephilim whilst providing the control mechanisms to enthral whole

populations and turn them in to Seraphicus.

The Viridi are almost as powerful as the Cinereo masters

which they serve. The Viridi use their living tissue as a

mind interface with humans they wish to control, typically

this would be the groups of Seraphicus they have bent to

their will via indoctrination and the poisoning of their blood

via the dermal bonding they subject them to. The masks

worn by the Seraphicus allow the Viridi to control and

direct their actions, extending their control across the

battlefield.

The genius of the Nephilim allows for a perfect synthesis between flesh and technology, something the Mechanicum of Mars envies above all else. The ‘Greens’ of the Nephilim possess the technology of supplanting their will in to a host organism by dermal bonding of Nephilim flesh on to their hosts. These fleshy hoods allow the hosts to be controlled by the Nephilim, they also allow for a measure of Nephilim resolve and serenity to be used by the host in times of need. When a unit with one or more models bearing a Fleshmask Interface fails a leadership test they may reroll one of the dice. If the unit is within 12” of a Nephilim who also bears a Fleshmask Interface the unit which failed the leadership test may reroll both of the dice if they wish.

The Nephilim are a race shrouded in mystery, descending

upon populated worlds in their egg-shaped starcraft to

enslave the population and feed from their devotion. The

Nephilim use the great Empath-Chapels to channel life

force into a useable energy source, this energy is used to

provide food for the Nephilim but also to reproduce their

number.

The Nephilim Puer, or Ur-Ghul in the ancient tongue of the

Eldar, are the offspring of the Nephilim, using crude bio-

patterns of the consumed human life force and the genetic

material from the strongest and wisest ‘Grey’, the Puer are

ushered into existence within the breeding chambers

constructed inside the Nephilims egg-shaped starcraft.

Once matured the Puer are distributed across the Nephilim

controlled worlds via a form of teleportation. Once on the

planet they grow at a surprising rate, adapting to their roles

within Nephilim society as their skin pigmentation changes

from a ruddy flesh like hue to grey, green or blue in order

to identify them as belonging to a particular caste.

The Hellhound Flame Tank is designed to flush out enemy infantry from dense terrain. A

hellhound is equipped with a powerful flame thrower the discharges a self-igniting chemical. The

flames find their way into every nook and crevice, consuming any troops who are sheltering

behind cover, reducing them to cinder and ash.

Based upon a Chimera chassis, the Hellhound has an increased engine size in place of a troop-

carrying capacity. The vast promethium tanks have also necessitated thicker armour plating.

These tanks are employed by many PDF forces across the emerging Imperium of man, and once

controlled by the Nephilim make for an effective addition to their armoury.

The Nephilim Choir consists of Hyacinthos arranged as a kill squad;

each member of the choir handles a large displacement

to bear in a more concerted effort to break the

enemy’s resolve.

These blue giants have the same speed

The Megarachnid are one of the most formidable enemies to the fledgling Imperium. On the planet Urisarach, designated One-Forty-Twenty and nicknamed “Murder”, the Blood Angels of the One Hundred and Fortieth Expeditionary Fleet were butchered to a man by a race of advanced, bio-engineered aliens that resembled massive versions of ancient Terran spiders. It is believed that the Megarachnid were once the blight of many star systems with advanced technology and warfare; however, after a long and protracted war with the Interex, they were imprisoned on the planet Urisarach, with their space faring capacity removed in order to protect nearby star systems from their wrath.

The Brood Queens are the mothers of a Megarachnid nests, spawning the larvae sacs that in turn spew forth Megarachnid Warriors needed to slay their enemies. Since the exile to Urisarach, the Brood Queens have used the natural resources of their planetary prison to build their number and prepare for their triumphant return to the galaxy.

The Brood Queens consume raw materials from the environment and synthesise this, along with the genetic codes of the male Venamors, in to the larvae sacs which are then attached to the large grassy fauna of Urisarach. When provoked the Brood Queens will take to the battlefield, towering over the warriors surrounding them, they will defend their nests with vehement resolve.

The Megarachnid are adept at surviving in even the harshest of environments. Their metabolism is such that they can absorb and make use of any minerals that are prevalent in their environment. In most cases this adaptation takes the form of enhanced bio-armour or Aluminflesh. This naturally grown armour synthesises metallic and silicone elements and combines them with oxygen to form a type of organic armour. The building blocks of this armour are laid down as the larvae develops in the larvae sacs, upon hatching the Aluminflesh slowly catalyses with oxygen to form a bonded suit of armour, capable of turning aside most blows. A model possessing Aluminflesh has an armour save of 3+.

The mainstay of the Megarachnid war machine is the warrior. These ferocious organisms are well armed and deadly with their strike and fade tactics and bio-mechanical weaponry. Each warrior is hatched from the brood fields, where they emerge as larvae and develop rapidly into adept killing machines.

The Megarachnid Warriors grow to an incredible size, much larger than conventional arachnid organisms, this is due to the fact that the Megarachnid race fashion large structures that filter elements in the air of an environment and convert some of these into extra oxygen molecules, allowing the Megarachnid race to grow far beyond the bounds of most arthropods.

Each warrior is far taller than an Astartes Legionnaire, their arthropod bodies covered in sections of silver Aluminflesh, acting as a resilient and effective suit of armour. Each warrior is armed with 4 deadly arachnablades, each one a metre long and the colour of oxidised zinc. The warrior classes of the Megarachnid are only identifiable by the thorny bone crest protruding from their broad wedge shaped head, the more senior warriors displaying a larger more ornate version than the less senior ranks of troops.
