About CVM
Charutar Vidya Mandal was established in the year 1945 by Shri Bhaikaka and Shri Bhikabhai Saheb as a charitable trust with a prime objective of rural development through education to bring about the social awakening, social upliftment and enrichment Over the subsequent years, Dr. H M Patel (the first finance minister of India) consolidated the efforts put in by the founders. Later on, in the 1990s, when Dr. C L Patel took over the reins of CVM as the Chairman, the country was facing a major economic and ideological change paving the way for globalization and liberalization. Various self-financed educational institutions started being established in the areas of Technology, Science and Engineering, Commerce and Management, offering emerging and innovative courses and programs. At present, CVM operates 48 educational Institutions with 45000 students on the rolls from 18 states and 12 countries across the world.
About BVM
BVM is a Premier Institution of CVM founded in 1948. Motto of BVM: Work is Worship. BVM is the First Approved Degree Engineering College of the Gujarat State. More than 19000 engineers have graduated from this college. BVM College is the first Academic Autonomous Engineering Institute of Gujarat State. BVM offers B.E., M.E. /M. Tech. and Ph.D. degree Programs. The College is affiliated to Gujarat Technological University and is situated at Vallabh Vidyanagar. The most striking feature of BVM is its dedicated and experienced faculty base.
About TEQIP-III
Technical Education Quality Improvement Program-III (TEQIP- III) of the World Bank assisted, funded by MHRD, Government of India and Government of Gujarat aims to improve the quality of Technical Education by providing inputs like modernization of laboratories/workshops, library, faculty development, networking between institutions, curricula development, research and improve interaction with industries etc., to become dynamic, demand driven, quality conscious, responsive to rapid economic and technological developments occurring both at national and international levels. BVM has been one of 190 Institutes nationwide selected for TEQIP-III. BVM met all performance indicators in 3rd, 4th and 5th joint review missions organized by the World Bank, NPIU, MHRD and GOI.
About STTP One week Short-Term Training Program on “Statistical Analysis for Scientific and Technical Research and Application” was organized to discuss and upgrade the technical skills related to various software’s for Statistical analysis of knowledge of different areas of science and Technology. Research being the core competency of any educational/technical field, the STTP had an aim to equip the participants with the knowledge and skillEnhancement with respect to statistical analysis. The STTP aimed to bring together leading Academicians, Researchers, Scholars and student to collaboratively have an academic discourse which might be helpful in up gradation of their field of knowledge.

The STTP “SASTRA 2018” was inaugurated on 19thFebruary, 2018 at 10.30 am in
LRUC Conference room, Birla Vishvakarma Mahavidyalaya Engineering College, Vallabh
Vidyanagar by esteemed Chaired by Er. V M Patel, Honorary Secretary, Charutar
Vidyamandal (CVM) and The Keynote Speaker, Mr. Vimal Vyas, Master black belt,
General Electric Co. Vadodara.
The STTP was chaired by Chief Guest, Mr. Vimal Vyas (Master Black
Belt, General Electric Co.),Er. V M Patel (Hon. Joint Secretary,
Charutar Vidya Mandal and president of the function), Dr. Indrajit
Patel (Principal, BVM),
Dr. T A Desai (Convener of STTP and Head of Mathematics
department) and Dr. R. B. Gandhi and Dr. M. E. Shimpi (Coordinators
of the STTP). Heads of various departments & all the faculty
participants were also present during the inauguration of SASTRA
2018.
As per the Indian tradition, the STTP was inaugurated with
Prayer by Prof. Aakar Roghelia, a team member of STTP, had
welcomed all. Dr. Mehul Shah had given introduction of all
dignitaries on the dais and invited guests. Dr. T A Desai
(Convener of STTP & Head of Mathematics Department) briefed all about the SASTRA
2018 and its importance. She explained various outcome of the program.
Dr. Indrajit Patel (Principal, BVM) gave the Presidential remarks on
the occasion. He informed that college always supports these kinds
of STTP through which the knowledge can be passed to students for
their development in modern era. He congratulated the Department
for organizing such a program which indirectly benefits to society.
Mr. Vimal Vyas Chief Guest of the function shared his views
regarding the scope of Lean production and six Sigma. He gave best wishes
to the Department for successful completion of the SASTRA 2018.
Dr. S. D. Dhiman (TEQIP-II Coordinator) was also present and explained about TEQIP III.
Er. V M Patel (Hon. Joint Secretary) gave his concluding remarks and
blessings for the SASTRA 2018 on behalf of Charutar Vidyamandal
and on behalf of the honorable Chairman Dr. C. L. Patel for the grand
success of SASTRA 2018.
Towards the end of the inaugural function, Dr. M. E. Shimpi
delivered a vote of thanks and the gathering joined for the National
Anthem.
Day1 (19/02/2018) Session 1 Expert Name: : Mr. Vimal Vyas, Designation& Organization

Topic : Mathematics-A catalyst of Business Mr. Vimal Vyas, had delivered expert talk on the title “Mathematic a Catalyst for
business” and informed the
gathering about the importance
of mathematics and Lean
production. He discussed about
two way learning method. It
was found to be a thought
provoking session where the
participants actively
participated in the open-house
discussion. The schedule was
well informative where each
participant was made aware
about the session. The session
ended with a discussion among
the participants of the STTP
and the expert. Proceeding session was by Dr.K Murlidharan, chaired by Dr M E Shimpi.
The theme for the session was “Industrial Statistics Using MINITAB”. Here the expert
made the gathering aware with the basic concepts of MINITAB software and the
importance of coding and multiple analyses that can be executed through the use of
software. The audience came up with their experience of using the software and had an
extensive discussion towards the end of the session one.

Dr K Murlidharan, has delivered expert talk on the title “Industrial Statistics
using MINITAB” and informed the gathering details about statistics and MINITAB. . It
was found to be a thought provoking session where the participants actively
participated in the open-house discussion. The session remained very practical and
knowledgeable. The session ended with a discussion among the participants of the STTP
and the expert. Proceeding session was also by Dr. K Murlidharan, chaired by Dr. M. E.

The Second day was started under the

Excellence Pvt. Ltd. He discussed
about the benefits of six sigma and
lean manufacturing in today’s world.
Mr. Hiren Kakkad also insisted use of
Six Sigma effectively to increase profit
of the organization. He also motivated
participants to take practical training
on Six Sigma.
Day 2 (20/02/2018) -Session 2 and 3

Topic : Introduction to SPSS and Basics of SPSS
Post lunch session was on the
topic “Introduction to SPSS” by
Dr. Ankit Sinojiya and the session
chair was Prof. R. B. Gandhi. On
the other side of the break, Dr
Ankit Sinojiya had another
session in which the participant
of the STTP had hands-on
session for SPSS a Statistical
Software. The participants found
to be very useful for their
research purpose. The day ended
with an advanced level of
understanding in the journey to its theme i.e. statistical analysis for scientific and
technical research.
Day 3 (21/02/2018) -Session 1 and 2

Topic : Introduction to R Studio and GG Plots
Day three marked with statistical
analysis software, i.e., “R Studio” for
which Dr. R. D. Chaudhary engaged
the sessions. Being new software for
the participants, it was motivating
and full of enthusiasm. While, Dr. R D.
Chaudhary introduced the Software
“R Studio” in the first session under
the chair of Prof. Aakar Roghelia; the
post-lunch session was engaged by
Dr. R. D Chaudhary who started with
GG plots focused on his topic i.e.
“Hands on R-studio”. The session
ended with light refreshment and participants’ hand-on activity for the software “R” and
Reproducible research using R & R-studio where both the experts, Mr. Hitesh Solanki
and Dr. R. D. Chaudhary instructed and guided the participants with the use of R
Software.
Day 3(21/02/2018) -Session 3

The last session was marked with statistical analysis software, i.e., “R Studio” for which
Mr. Hitesh Solanki continued the session. Mr. Hitesh Solanki introduced the T-test and
ANOVA in the last session under the chair of Prof. Aakar Roghelia. Mr. Hitesh Solanki
and Dr. R. D. Chaudhary instructed and guided the participants with the use of R
Software.
Day 4(22/02/2018) - Session 1 and2 Expert Name: : Dr. J. M. Divecha

Topic : Factorial Experiments using Design Experts
On the fourth day of the STTP started with a session on Design of experiments by Dr. J. M. Divecha chaired by prof. S. D. Bhagat, where the expert gave a detailed expression to the topic and discussed various designs that can be adopted. Dr. J. M. Divecha discussed about Factorial design of experiments using MINITAB. She discussed in detail about the various objectives of factorial designs to the participants. The participants found this session very interesting and beneficial. Session 2 was a hands-on session on Factorial design of experiments with MINITAB. This session proved to be worth on practical aspects of Design of experiments.
Day 4 (22/02/2018) - Session 3 Expert Name: : Dr Nidhi Raykundaliya Designation and Organization : Assistant Professor, Gujarat college, Ahmedabad Topic : Multi Objective optimization techniques The last session on the fourth day of the STTP started with a session on Multi objective
optimization techniques chaired by Prof. S. D. Bhagat where the expert gave a detailed expression to the topic and discussed various designs that can be adopted. Dr. Nidhi Raykundaliya explained crucial elements of Optimization and Applications in MATLAB. Also, she discussed about commands by hands on MATLAB. It was a very interesting session and the 4th day ended with lot of excitement for the next day.
Day 5 (23/02/2018) - Session 1 and 2
Expert Name: : Mr. Nitiraj Shete Designation and Organization : Assistant Professor SPU, Vallabh Vidyanagar Topic : Data Fetching and Statistical Analysis using Excel
The session started with introduction to excel and data fetching. The session also included theoretical and practical of statistical analysis in which the first session was engaged by Dr. Nitiraj Shete with a discussion on the topic “Data Fetching and Statistical Analysis using MS-Excel”. After the break, “Hands on MS Excel” by Mr. Nitiraj Shete chaired by Dr. R. B. Gandhi. Various tools of MS Excel were introduced to the audience. Data Analysis tool of MS Excel
introduced by Mr. Nitiraj Shete was found to be a very important tool for data analysis. Day 5 (23/02/2018) – Session 3 Expert Name: : Dr Ashok Shanubhogue

The last session of the day 5 started
with Dr Ashok Shanubhogue,
Professor Department of Statistics,
Sardar Patel University introducing
SPSS under the chair of Dr. R B
Gandhi. He discussed in details the
objectives and benefits of SPSS. He
explained to the participants Factor
Analysis using SPSS. Dr. Ashok
Shanubhoge delivered expert talk
on the topic “Factor Analysis,
Cluster Analysis” where the expert provided description of the said theories with the
use of SPSS. At the end there was hands-on session on SPSS.

The Session one started with Dr. Dharmesh Raykundaliya delivering expert talk on
Regression analysis for

data using R. Also the Sixth day
marked with a session and the
valedictory function of the one
week STTP on “Statistical
Analysisfor Scientific and
Technical Research and
Application” (SASTRA-2018).
The session, under the chair of
Dr. Mehul Shah, was engaged by
Dr. Dharmesh Raykundaliya on
the topic “Regression analysis
using R”. The last day of the
STTP ended with the open house and feedback session by Dr. Mehul Shah.
Valedictory Session
The valedictory function was held at the conference room. Dr Indrajit Patel
(Principal BVM), Dr. Dharmesh Raykundaliya, Dept. of Statistics, SPU, Dr. T. A. Desai
(Convener of SASTRA 2018 and Head of Mathematics) along with the participants of
SASTRA 2018 remained present. Dr. I. N. Patel (Principal, BVM) appreciated the
organizers and team along with the participant on successful completion the one
week STTP on “Statistical Analysis for Scientific and Technical Research and
Application” (SASTRA-2018). Prof. V. M. Rana, participant from MSU gave feedback
about the STTP and gave proposal to conduct more such STTP. At the end, Prof.
Shailesh Bhagat proposed the vote of thanks. Towards the end of the valedictory
session, certificate distribution was held where the invited guest Dr. S.D. Dhiman
and Dr. I. N. Patel distributed certificates to the participants of the STTP. The STTP
won accolades and excellent feedback from the participants.
Feedback:
Feedback from the participants was collected in the form of feedback form. The
analysis is attached herewith. Following is the gist of the analysis:
All the participants have appreciated the topics covered and the speaker’s
delivery.
Participants also appreciated the pace, relevance and methodology of the STTP.
Participants were of the view that whole STTP should be based on single
software instead of multiple.
