Overall Hiring Trends

The Naukri JobSpeak Index for October ‘19 (2,120) witnessed a rise of 2% compared to October ‘18 (2,088).

Major industries that witnessed positive YoY movement were IT-Software (+17%), Accounting & Finance (+26%) and Education (+6%). On the other hand, industries such as BFSI (-10%) and Auto (-24%) continued to witness a drop in hiring activity. As far as functional areas are concerned, hiring for professionals in IT-Software increased by +11% while other functional areas such as ITES/BPO and Sales/BD saw an increase of +5% and +2% respectively. Amongst experience bands, hiring for senior executives and mid-management roles witnessed a YoY growth of 3% each whereas hiring for Senior Management and Leadership roles saw a decline.

Commenting on the report, Pawan Goyal, Chief Business Officer, Naukri.com said,

“Diwali has had an impact on this month’s hiring activity. Once again, IT – Software industry continues to fuel the increased overall hiring. Having said that, sectors such as BFSI and Auto continues to witness a YoY decline. We expect hiring activity to pick up in the months to come”

Industry-wise Analysis:

• Demand for professionals from the IT-Software industry grew significantly by +17%.

• Other major industries that observed an increase in hiring during October ‘19 were Accounting (+26%), Telecom (+17%) and Education (+5%).

• The industries that experienced a dip in hiring were Auto (-24%), FMCG (-17%), BFSI (-10%) and Construction (-12%).

• Other industries such as BPO/ITES (+1%) and Retail (+2%) also witnessed a marginal increase in hiring.

Functional Area Analysis: • IT - Software continued to grow, recording a +11% rise year-on-year.

• Functional areas such as Sales & BD, ITES/BPO have also shown an increase of +2% and +5% respectively.

• Hiring for the professionals in the HR and Marketing domain witnessed a decline of -6% and -3%. Hiring in the Pharma & Healthcare domain remained flat YoY.

Distribution of Jobs across Roles City Wise Analysis

City level hiring was largely a mixed bag with Hyderabad witnessing a significant increase of +22% YoY, Bangalore remained largely the same year-on-year with 1% growth whereas Bombay and Delhi witnessed a decline of -7% and -8% respectively.

• Delhi/NCR: Hiring activity in the capital city declined by -8%. Though the IT sector hiring in the city grew by +5%, negative growth across industries such as BPO (-7%), BFSI (-27%) and Auto (-9%) has resulted in an overall decline in hiring across Delhi/NCR.

• Hyderabad: Hyderabad recorded the highest growth rate of +22% amongst all major cities during October ‘19. The city’s growth has been led by a significant increase in IT hiring - IT-Software (+36%) and IT- Hardware (+25%). Hyderabad also witnessed increased hiring across the following experience bands – entry level executives (+26%), senior-level executives (+34%), mid-management (+33%) and senior management roles (+7%), with the only decline being hiring for leadership roles -11%).

• Bangalore: Overall hiring activity in Bangalore grew by 1%. Apart from growth across IT – Software (+10%) and Accounting & Finance (+26%), other key industries saw a decline in hiring during October ’19.

WORK EXPERIENCE SCENARIO

Experience Wise Analysis

• Demand for entry-level job seekers with experience of 0-3 years grew by 1%.

• Hiring for senior-level executives with experience of 4-7 years grew by 3%. • Mid- management roles with 8-12 years of experience saw a spike of 3%.

• Hiring for senior management roles with 13-16 years of experience and leadership roles with experience of 16+ years saw a dip of 5% and 10% respectively.

Naukri.com is a recruitment platform that provides hiring-related services to corporates/recruiters, placement agencies and job seekers in India and overseas. It offers multiple products like Resume Database Access, Job Listings and Response Management Tools. With more than 5,25,000 jobs live at any given point and over 65 million CVs, Naukri.com has serviced over 76,000 corporate clients in 2018-2019. The company operates through 56 offices in 42 cities across India with overseas offices in Dubai, Riyadh, Abu Dhabi and Bahrain.

The Naukri Job Speak is a monthly index which calculates and records hiring activity based on newly added job listings on Naukri.com every month. The objective of Naukri JobSpeak is to measure hiring activity across various industries, cities, functional areas and experience levels. August 2008 has been considered as the base with an index value of 1,000 and the subsequent monthly indices are compared to data from August 2008. The jobs analysed for the monthly index are qualified on the basis of white-collar jobs belonging to the organized corporate sector with focus on service industries. Over 76,000 clients use Naukri.com, ensuring that the data is highly reliable. The report however does not cover gig employment, hyperlocal hiring or campus placement.
