Discipleship in Action for August Grow in Prayer

I’ve been praying for you and your children! Have you felt it? As a new school year starts, we expe-rience many different emotions— we are scared, nervous, excited, wishful, sad, happy (just to name a few) — all at once! Whether it is your child’s first year of preschool, their first year of college, or somewhere in between, chances are high you are experienc-ing a combination of these emotions, and so are your children! I invite you, your children, your neigh-bors, your teachers, administrator friends, and anyone you pass in the school supply aisle at Walmart and Target to join us for Blessing of the Backpacks. We will have a meal, col-lect school supplies for The Harbor, cover the school year in prayer, and provide an encouraging message along the way. Bring any bags you want blessed! Our tags this year feature a verse I hope you’ll keep close to your heart: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wher-ever you go” Joshua 1:9. I’m continuing my prayers for you all. See you in the Fellowship Hall on Wednesday, August 28, at 5 for the meal and 6 for the program.

Third Grade Bible Sunday Each year, the Church gifts our third graders their very own Bible. Committed prayer partners are needed to pray for and connect with these children through-out the school year, as well as present them with a Bible on Sunday, September 8, in the 8:55 Sanctuary Service. RADICAL MENTORING

“Be the Difference!”

Galatians 6:2 says to “bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” Radical Men-toring’s purpose is to connect wiser, more experienced men in our con-gregation with some younger men. Just as Jesus mentored his disci-ples, He instructed them (and us) to “make disciples” (Matthew 28: 19). Disciples are made through building relationships. Spiritual mentoring is based on sharing wisdom, providing direction, bearing other’s burdens, and pointing them to Christ. Radical Mentoring is open to all men in our church. It will be a small group set-ting where one mentor will be with four to six mentees. The mentoring season will last 9 months. Meetings are once a month for three hours.

Wednesday, September 11, at 6 p.m. in Room 134 our church will have two great opportunities to be the hands and feet of Jesus and continue the momentum of Hands on Dothan by partnering with our very own Respite Care Ministry and The Harbor ministries to help meet some of the needs they have. Below is a brief description of what each group will be

doing. This will be a time of planning for these upcoming opportunities. • We need a group that does yard work for some of the Respite Care Ministry participants whose caregivers are unable to take care of it on a regular basis. • At The Harbor, we need a group to help at The Harbor Gardens on a regular ba-sis.
