About the Summit

In its tenth year, ALL DIGITAL (formerly Telecentre Europe) returns to its birthplace, Barcelona, to organise

the 10th annual summit under the theme of Digital Skills for Social Innovation on 4-5 October 2017. The

event will be held at the CaixaForum in Barcelona and hosted by the Spanish member El Teb Association in

collaboration with Fundación Esplai and Government of Catalonia.

The Summit is kindly supported by Government of Catalonia, Ajuntament de Barcelona, “laCaixa”

Foundation, GSMA Mobile World Capital Barcelona, Telapolis, HP.

The ALL DIGITAL Summit 2017 brings together 200 leaders representing networks and organisations working

to enhance digital skills. It will provide an opportunity to explore a range of digital social innovations in

developing competences that citizens, organisations, and communities need to embrace in order to reap the

benefits of the digital society

ALL DIGITAL Summit 2017 is co-organised by two projects

• The CodeMob project (Teaching coding and mobile devices in telecentres) is supported by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union. It is aimed at designing and piloting two courses on coding and the effective use of mobile devices training curriculum for e-Facilitators and end-users. ALL DIGITAL Summit 2017 will host the project’s final event. The CodeMob results will be presented in various ways. More

• I-LINC is a project funded through Horizon2020 by the European Commission. I-LINC created a stakeholder platform as well as a community of experts and organisations that foster employment and entrepreneurship through digital skills. In 2017, I-LINC will host the Project Lightning Talks.

Who we are - ALL DIGITAL

Back in 2007, a group of digital inclusion leaders, with support from Microsoft met for the first time in Barcelona to discuss scaling up local and national initiatives and the potential of a thematic network at European level. That is where Telecentre-Europe was born, to become a family united by one purpose: empower Europe through digital skills.

Ten years later, we are a major European Association in the field of digital inclusion and empowerment. Our vision that every European should be able to exploit the benefits and opportunities created by digital transformation has led us in 2017 to become ALL DIGITAL.

About Barcelona

Barcelona is a world reference city for urbanism, technology and social innovation, a hub for European and

global creators on different fields. The new council led by Ada Colau is proposing a new agenda in politics,

focused on the social impact of policy in the city, and not only following the rules of the market and financial

capitals. The digital agenda of Barcelona is pushing towards technology sovereignty, based on distributed

infrastructure and citizen participation. The city has the first public network of Fab Labs in the world in a city

scale, hosts the first Fab Lab in the EU, and it is the leader of the Fab City project.

Did you know that Barcelona …

• is the Mobile World Capital and hosts the Mobile World Congress? • is the number one smart city in Spain and ranked fourth in Europe? • is home to the MareNostrum supercomputer, one of the most important research infrastructures in

Europe. • in 2016 was the fifth hottest startup hub in Europe after London, Berlin, Paris and Amsterdam, and it

is continuously growing? • boasts of its 22@Barcelona, one of the most ambitious urban projects, which transformed

dilapidated area of Poblenou into a thriving centre of innovation?

Our local hosts and summit participants will be happy to share with you what it means for citizens and what role digital competence centres play in all this development.

About Barcelona

Getting to Barcelona

Most of the Summit attendees will arrive to Barcelona by plane. The Barcelona-El Prat Airport is 3 km from

the Barcelona city center, and it’s connected to the city by L9 South Metro Line, Train, Aerobus (leaving

every 5 min) and taxis.

A taxi from the airport to the city center will cost around 30€. You will find taxi stops outside each terminal.

All cabs are metered with additional charges for baggage, which you can find detailed on the right rear

passenger window. Please ask the driver if Credit Cards are accepted before you start the ride.

With Aerobus in approximately 35 minutes you can go from, or return

to, Airport Terminals (T1 or T2). Single ticket is 5,90 EUR; return – 10,20

EUR (both including luggage; prices as of May, 2017). You can buy

Aerobus tickets:

• Online on the Aerobus website (payment by credit card) • From the staff at the bus stops (cash only) • At the ticket vending machines (payment by credit cards VISA

and MASTERCARD) • By paying the bus driver (cash only) • Please note that the maximum change for cash payments is limited up to 20 EUR

The Aerobus stop Plaza España is within a walking distance from the event venue. If you prefer to go directly

to the city center, you can get down at Plaza Cataluña, its final stop.

If you are arriving by a long-distance train to Sants station, you can easily get to Plaça Catalunya and Passeig

de Gràcia by metro, bus, and taxi.

Moving Around the City

Barcelona has an excellent public transport system: eight metro lines interconnect all the city’s districts and

part of the metropolitan area, two tram lines cross the city from north to south, a large fleet of buses reach

every corner of the city, and local trains complement the metro network. Furthermore, the city’s public

transport uses an integrated fare system, which allows you to use various means of transport with just one

ticket, you can cross almost the entire city in about 40 minutes either by metro or bus.

You can buy tickets for individual journeys for the metro at 2,15€ per ticket.

But if you are here for more than one day or intend taking more than 5

journeys on the metro or buses, it's best to buy the T10 ticket (9,80€).

If you plan to explore the city by yourself, you might like to consider getting a

BCN card, it is also known as Barcelona tourist card, Barcelona discount card

or Barcelona travel card. There are two different types of cards: The full

Barcelona Card, which is valid for 3-5 calendar days, and the more economic

Barcelona Card Express, which is valid for 2 calendar days. Both versions offer free public transport in

Barcelona, including the airport train and the complete bus and metro network.

Jewel of industrial Modernism restored for everyone to enjoy

The CaixaForum Barcelona is an art gallery in Barcelona, sponsored by Barcelona bank "la Caixa". It opened

its doors in 2002, giving a new life to one of Barcelona’s foremost Modernista buildings. This old textile

factory, located at the foot of the hill of Montjuïc, was commissioned to Josep Puig i Cadafalch, one of the

three most representative Catalan architects of Modernism together with Antoni Gaudí and Domènech i

Montaner.

Past and present, tradition and modernity unite in this unique example of Catalan industrial Modernista

architecture from the early 20th century. For this factory’s design Puig i Cadafalch was awarded the Annual

Prize for Artistic Buildings in 1913 and it was declared a Historical Monument of National Interest in 1976.

12,000 m² dedicated to spreading culture

Since it was inaugurated, CaixaForum has become one of the most dynamic, active and lively cultural venues

in the city with an extensive programme of social, cultural and educational interest for all kinds of audiences.

Lunch venue

Lunch and one of the workshops on Day 1 will be held at Mies van der Rohe Pavilion

The Barcelona Pavilion was designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe as the German National Pavilion for the

Barcelona International Exhibition, held on Montjuïc. After the closure of the Exhibition, the Pavilion was

disassembled in 1930. As time went by, it became a key point of reference not only in Mies van der Rohe’s

own career but also in 20th century architecture as a whole. Given the significance and reputation of the

Pavilion, thoughts turned towards its possible reconstruction. Work began in 1983 and the new building was

opened on its original site in 1986.

The materials

Glass, steel and four different kinds of stone (Roman travertine, green Alpine marble, ancient green marble

from Greece and golden onyx from the Atlas Mountains) were used for the reconstruction, all of the same

characteristics and provenance as the ones originally employed by Mies in 1929. Mies van der Rohe’s

originality in the use of materials lay not so much in novelty as in the ideal of modernity they expressed

through the rigour of their geometry, the precision of the pieces and the clarity of their assembly.

The Barcelona chair

Mies van der Rohe designed a chair, especially for the Pavilion, consisting of a leather upholstered metallic

profile that over the years has become an icon of modern design. To such an extent, in fact, that the

Barcelona chair is still manufactured and marketed today. Learn more

Innovation tour

Innovation Tour

Participants of the ALL DIGITAL Summit on 5 October will get a unique opportunity to attend the Innovation

tour of Poblenou, the tech neighborhood in Barcelona.

It is a walking tour, we depart from Factory36 after lunch.

Poblenou is the geographic center of the city of Barcelona, which in the 19th century was the centre of Industrial revolution with factories and textile mills and the first steam machine in Spain on 1833 – hence called the Catalan Manchester. In the 20th century the ‘New Village’ (as ‘Poblenou’ means in Catalan) got into a decline as most of the factories were abandoned, fell into disrepair and buildings were used by squatters and artists.

Thanks to the City Council-led project named 22@, aiming to foster a new economy based on ICT, the Poblenou was transformed from an industrial graveyard to a very attractive neighbourhood. Today it is helping to redefine the future of cities and, the model is a benchmark in urban, economic and social transformation in cities like Rio de Janeiro, Boston, Istanbul and Cape Town.

The project was developing around 5 specific “knowledge clusters”: ICT, Bio-Medical, Design, Energy, and Media. The idea was to connect both the international and local communities by creating physical and social networks to facilitate collaboration, capture talent and develop a sustainable business ecosystem. Now the neighborhood is a center for software tech companies, research centers, universities, digital fabrication laboratories (Fab labs and Maker spaces) and citizen associations.

The delegates will visit some of the most remarkable spaces in the neighborhood to see and experience the digital transformation taking place in the city of Barcelona: LEITAT, Poblenou Urban District; Fab Lab; Almogavers Business Factory (ABF)

Wandering around Barcelona

“Barcelona is where all began... Where I understood how far I could go”. These were the words of Pablo

Picasso when he discovered modern art direction in Barcelona. The friendships Pablo wove in Barcelona

lasted his whole life and the physical and human landscapes reflected in his work like no other.

At that time Barcelona was consolidating as a great metropolis in which the culture of the city was marked

by Modernism. A city full of great architects like Domeneh i Montaner, Puig i Cadafalch and certainly Gaudi,

the father of many of the masterpieces of this period. Casa Milà, better known as “La Pedrera”, is one of the

most incredible examples of the Catalan artist’s creativity. Climb on the roof top and explore its sinuous

forms and stand face to face with the soldiers that protect the house.

If possible, visit La Casa Batlló, El Park Güell, La Sagrada Família and close to “La Rambla”, Gaudi’s great

patron Eusebio Güell’s Palace family residence Founded by the Romans in the late first century BC, their

settlements were integrated into later period architecture, accumulating the layers of history.

From Roman Barcino, the Barchinona of the Middle Ages, to the cutting-edge multi-cultural 21st century

Barcelona. A stimulating ensemble you must savor at your own pace. Barcelona houses a great number of

museums: the National Museum of Art of Catalonia (MNAC), the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art

(MACBA), Fundació Joan Miró, Picasso Museum, The Museum of Design (DHUB), The Contemporary

Center of Culture of Barcelona (CCCB) and a wide range of very different international musical and theater

events.

Alternatively, you can also explore art galleries, urban sport, festivals, exhibitions and so much more—they

will bring you closer to a culture that keeps exploring trends. Furthermore, Barcelona is the only major

European city with a harbor and beaches in the city center. Its Mediterranean climate, parks and hills make it

a perfect place to discover on foot or by bike.
